Paul is a passionate and incredibly knowledgeable guide who goes out of his way to care for the marine wildlife whilst ensuring his guests have a great experience. I also had a small child with me and Paul made an extra special effort to make sure he was okay throughout the journey - checking in with him and even sharing his snacks when my son became hungry! My son meanwhile got to see dolphins, whales, seals and sunfish up close for the first time in his young life and gave the experience a big thumbs up at the end. Thanks to Paul, my son’s first ever sea trip was exhilarating and inspiring and he is now hungry for more! Thank you.

The variety of animals we saw on our 2 hour tour was amazing! Looking at the city from the water was beautiful. Within the first 5 minutes we spotted our first pod of dolphins, followed by penguins, seals, breaching whales, more dolphins and incredible ocean sunfish! The kids loved all the dolphins riding our boats wake. Excellent adventure, highly recommend it. Paul was full of fun facts and the boat was comfortable and great for viewing the animals.

The trip occurs on a smaller boat which is faster and doesn't seem to disturb the animals. We saw so much wildlife and learned a lot along the way. Paul is so clearly an experienced, knowledgeable guide eager to share his wisdom and preserve the peace of the ocean. Much recommended!

Had a really great trip with super genial Paul. We saw tons of whales, and lots of other sea life as well. Paul was very knowledgeable, not only about the whales but also seals and the bird life and the local ocean ecology of currents, winds, etc and everything that makes this such a very special place of the world. I liked too that he detoured to collect a stray balloon that had floated out to sea - full of metallic glitter that is so dangerous for fish who think it’s food. He’d also read a recent article in The Atlantic about a newly discovered new species of whale so it was very cool to be able to chat to him about all the fascinating whale facts in that article. Paul also took us into a hunting pod of 150 or so curious seals, who swarmed around the boat. A really great experience.

I’m 64 and by now I’ve realised I’ll never ride through Paris in a sports car with the warm wind in my hair, as Marianne Faithful’s Ballad of Lucy Jordan goes. But last night on Paul’s boat I was 25, with wonder and unencumbered energy rushing through me. Here was this gorgeous man doing everything imaginable to make our whale and dolphin watching the experience we could only dream of. We were surrounded by hundreds, perhaps thousands of dolphins. And a whale breaching, its body magnificant above the water. Paul has a nose for these special creatures.
Being so close to the water I wondered if those oligarths in their million dollar yachts way above the water ever experience this. It’s the closeness to the water and a skipper driven by his passion of these animals – his honesty behind his quest – that allowed this to be a pinnacle of experiences.
What a person he is!

I have to admit I’m not a boat person and intended to send my teenage son without me. But Paul put me at ease and persuaded me to join. Apprehensive to begin with, I ended up having a truly beautiful morning out on the water — Paul has the experience, the competence and the confidence to not only ensure sightings of sea creatures and bird life but to ensure a comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable experience. I’ll definitely be going again.

Fantastic trip out with the trip leader Paul. Paul was great, giving us the best experience possible, He has a genuine passion for wildlife and was full of facts and information about the mammals that we seen. We seen some beautiful dolphins up close and also seals which Paul had a real soft spot for. We managed also to see some whales in the distance, but for Paul’s best efforts the whales were not playing ball.

All in all a great experience and I couldn’t rate it highly enough.

I went into this trip envisaging an exhilarating boat ride and the odd marine wildlife encounter but this was so much more. Paul (our guide/captain) had so much knowledge of the sea and how to read the behaviour of the birds and the currents, which he used to amazing effect. We saw seals and dolphins and sun fish but the highlight by far was the pod of 30 or so hump back whales which we found ourselves near as they swam to us. The beauty and grace of these amazing creatures as they passed by will live with me for ever. The video footage I’ve got is incredible. Paul also put a sonar listening device into the water so we could hear them.
I know were incredibly lucky and that not every tour will get to experience so much but it was Paul’s deep understanding of the marine environment which helped to make this happen so he will maximise your opportunity and you can’t ask for more than that

Paul, the owner of Ocean Wonder, goes out of his way to find the wildlife in the ocean. On our first trip in August 2019, we didn’t see whales, but we did find a huge pod of dolphins (next to penguins and seals). This trip, we have seen penguins, seals, various dolphin species, sunfish and a supergroup of humpback whales! It was absolutely amazing and Paul’s knowledge is such a help as well. I would recommend Paul and his Ocean Wonders tour to anyone over any other tour you can do on the waters around Cape Town.
