Amazing trip and Guide!
Jul 2019 • Couples
Very good experience in Kruger! The guide, Arno, is amazing! we took a birding + mammals tour and he delivered the birds, knew their location, how to help us to get the best shots and how to position the car. better with the mammals, we got amazing leopard pictures, and he was always ready to take us where the mammals were.
As photographers we ended up very satisfied with everything.
And he even cooked us barbecue!!
amazing. thanks for the experience. we loved it.

Incredible attention to detail

My wife & I just spent 8 days with Hennie & Bernhard from B1 Photo Safaris,(Private Kruger Safaris). We have been to Africa on 5 previous occasions, but this is the first time we have planned our own trip. This is the second time we have traveled with Bernhard, we chose him again because of his knowledge & the fun we had the first time.

He met us at the airport as he said he would & we traveled to Kruger NP with him.

We knew it was the wrong time of year to visit, but they still found a record 71 lions. It was hot & very dry, food & therefore animals were not as abundant as last time we went. Hennie & Bernhard worked hard together to make it the best possible Safari.

They tailored the Safari exactly as they said they would just for my wife & I. With Hennie driving & Bernhard in the back with us scouting it was certainly personal service. I couldn’t believe the one on one attention we received. Their knowledge & interest of photography combined with their local & natural knowledge enables them to get the right light on the right subjects to enable great photo opportunities.

Their sense of humour & manner made us very comfortable, very quickly. This is important if you are only there for a short time, but you are in close company together. My wife & I were made to feel welcome straight away.

They even went to the point of planning, at our request, a trip outside the park to visit the Blyde River Canyon. A great side trip.

All in all, a great holiday – plenty of animals – at a price that we found to be more than great value.

Incredible Experience - dramatically exceeded my expectations
Aug 2018 • Couples
Because I enjoy wildlife photography, my wife and I have traveled to many national parks, particularly those in the Western United States. I feel like the months I have spent in Yellowstone, the Tetons, etc. were simply preparing me for the four days we got to spend with Private Kruger Safaris in August 2018, and particularly Bernhard and Hennie Bekker.

I originally planned a purely self-drive trip to Kruger. However, after I booked our accommodations (Lower Sabie and Satara Rest Camps), I began to read more and more than I would have a difficult time using my camera gear while also being our only driver. (Quickly getting a 500mm set up and aimed while also driving a car is not easy). As a result, I began to look at companies that offered group tours into the park. I then found Private Kruger Safaris and discovered that they offer private photography trips for an extraordinarily reasonable rate. I did my research – looked through the social media pages and websites of the various guides and discovered that these were serious photographers. I emailed the company, told them where I had already booked rooms, and asked if they could join me for a day. Bernhard quickly emailed me back, quoted me a price, and proposed an itinerary. In one of the best decisions of my life, I agreed. Over the next few months, I continued to email Bernhard as our plans changed slightly. He was extraordinarily accommodating. We changed locations, and eventually even added a few days to the trip.

We met Bernhard and Hennie on the morning of August 25th and immediately knew we were in good hands. They are delightful, knowledgeable, fantastic hosts, and obviously love what they do for a living. They asked us what shots I was interested in getting and worked to make it happen. Within two hours of the start of our trip, we had the first of three excellent leopard encounters. Over our four days we saw all of the Big Five (lots of times). And thanks to Hennie’s driving and the nature of their vehicle, we had fantastic views of the animals and were able to stay as long as we wanted to get the shots. Speaking of the vehicle, it has custom made Wimberley-like mounts for larger lenses. I’ve read on some blogs that these wouldn’t be all that useful. Those blogs were utterly and completely wrong. Try handholding a 500mm from 6am to 6pm and see how your photos turn out. The mounts were awesome and made a noticeable difference in the quality of the photos.

Speaking of photography, Bernhard is a fantastic teacher. I would describe myself as an enthusiastic amateur. I shoot with a Canon 5D mkIV and and 7D mkII. I brought four lenses: 500mm f4, 100-400, 24-70, and 16-35. I know what I’m doing, but certainly have room to grow. I’ve traditionally shot wildlife in AV mode, though I did landscapes in full manual. By the second day with Bernhard, I was shooting everything in manual, and doing so comfortably. He also convinced me to finally make the transition to back button focusing. He’s a good teacher and has a good eye. That’s a great combination for someone leading a photographic trip into Kruger.

My wife, a non-photographer, thoroughly enjoyed the trip as well. And she was also taking some awesome photos by the end of the trip thanks to Bernhard and Hennie. My biggest regret of the trip is that we didn’t get a photo with them, as we had booked a night in Sabi Sands and we had to leave in a hurry. While Sabi Sands was cool, our experience with Bernhard and Hennie was better (and we saw more wildlife with them).

This was our first trip to anywhere in Africa. We will be returning, hopefully in 2020. When we do come back to South Africa, my very first step will be to contact Bernhard and let him plan our itinerary. I really can’t emphasize how incredible this experience was or how much we enjoyed our time in the bush with these guys. I wholeheartedly recommend you book your photographic trips to Kruger with them.

So far beyond my expectations....
Jan 2018 • Solo
I don't even know where to start. Bernhard and Hennie picked me up from Skukuza airport and we started our tour. We spent 3 days near skukuza and then 2 days up at the Satara base camp. First, Bernhard and Hennie are first rate responsible guides with a combined knowledge of over 50 years in the bush. I felt like I was with animal whisperers as they could not only predict the animals' behaviors, but they so intimately understood the behavior that we were able to get amazing photographic opportunities because their experience and passion for the wildlife was just something that words cannot describe. They worked so well together and were prepared for everything and anything. They pushed to make sure we got good photographic opportunities, but at the same time, were very safe cautious and respectful of the animals and environment.

The two of them were extremely considerate, professional, but by the end of the trip, I felt like I was leaving two friends that I made during the trip. Their attention to detail, the incredible knowledge of all the species including naming birds off the tip of their tongue, and the way they interacted with one another and me was great.

I will be coming back again to relive the experience they provided. Every detail, even including having sufficient bottled water, snack stops, photo stops, electricity in the vehicle, proper camera mounts, and even technical suggestions about photographic the animals was part of the package....stopping at breathtaking places, etc was all thought of way ahead of time. Professionals and just great guys to spend days with ... We all have nicknames for one another now, so if you do book with them, ask them about "Racoon and 3200" - Good times with great people. 5+ stars
