We had an excellent day of sightings and although that has little to do with the guide but more to do with the whims of the animals on any given day, we can say that Gerrie went above and beyond for our tour of Kruger. It was our first time visiting Kruger and we felt like we were in very experienced and able hands. He made an effort to try and get us close to the animals we hoped to spot, and thought carefully about how to make the day work best for us. We were a family of 5, and so we can recommend this tour to any family wishing to visit Kruger for the first time. Thanks so much, highly recommended!

We booked a full day safari with Gerrie who was a fantastic guide and a great conversationalist. What started off as an interesting day weather-wise, Gerrie was very knowledgeable to cater to our needs on a rainy day and it turned out to be a great safari tour with some lovely sightings of the big 4 and more. And he prequels the sightings with insightful stories of animal behavior that elevates the time you spend observing these beautiful beings in their natural habitat interacting with each other or with another species. The whole tour was further capped off with an elusive sighting of a standoff between a wild dog pack and hyenas. It was a wonderful end to our tour. I cannot recommend enough for Gerrie, specially if you are looking for a personal interactive safari tour, you are in expert hands!

There are no words to describe our experience at Kruger with Gerrie.
Gerrie has a very proactive approach and got in touch with us beforehand to make us aware of weather forecast, what to bring etc ...
On the day, he was punctual and made us feel comfortable as soon as we met him.
During the game, Gerrie shared his knowledge and taught us so much about Kruger and its habitants, always took the time to appreciate the sightings and went above and beyond to make sure we had the best day.
What we also liked about Gerrie is his love and passion for what Mother nature has to offer. One example out of so many is his reaction when we saw the rhinos. It just said it all, and as nature lovers ourselves, it meant so much.
Gerrie also takes pictures with his camera and shares them with his clients and that's a real bonus. The pictures are awesome !
Thank you ever so much once again, Gerrie. It would not have been the same without you.

This was our first time at Kruger National Park and the first time on safari. We couldn’t have picked better company to share this experience through than Kruger Gateway Safaris. From booking to actual drive, it was outstanding experience for us. They adhere to Covid protocols so we felt safe taking the ride. Our guide, Gerrie, was amazing. Very knowledgeable about the park and it’s history, which provided exactly what we needed to have the best experience possible. We’ve seen so many different animals in such a short time. Gerrie picked us up early at our hotel and not even an hour later we’ve seen zebras, giraffes, elephants, impalas, kudus, all sorts of birds. As we were driving through the park we also seen crocodiles, hearts of buffalos, hippos enjoying some water, but being able to see rhino (endangered speeches) and some elephants just before the sunset was very rewarding. We loved it so much that we booked Gerrie for a half day the same week. If you are looking for a great experience on the safari look no further and hire Gerrie as your guide. I promise you will not regret it.

Just back from a fantastic full day with Gerrie. This trip was first organised for June 2020, then covid hit, we rolled the trip twice in 2021, then again to 2022….now. All the time, communication with Gerrie was top notch and we felt to be valued by him.
Finally the day arrived.
From the before-sunrise start it was great humoured, and a day where the hours just flew by. We really had great sightings and knowledgeable insights, from the teenager leopard to the multiple elephant bulls, and all between.
Given that the park is so lush currently, and the game dispersed, we had excellent sightings.
Gerrie is a perfect host and we so look forward to rebooking for 2023 again, where we’ll keep an eye out for the walking barbecues (!). Thankyou Gerrie, a perfect day

I can highly recommend Kruger Gateway Safaris by Gerrie Smit . I used this company for full day tours . The price was very good compared to other similar companies and Gerrie was an amazing guide ; had much knowledge about Kruger , trees , animals ,birds , plants and history . He had a professional and very polite behaviour and I felt very valued as a guest. And I appreciated his attitude to safety first while driving around and beeing among animals . I will for sure use this on my next Safari trip to Kruger .

This Private Tour of Kruger with Gerri is the best way to experience it. We saw Gnu, Zebra, ALL of the Big 5, Wild Dogs (endangered) and multiple rate birds.
Our experience was special because the Wild Dogs we saw are 20 out of the 360 remaining in the world. We also saw a leopard which is VERY rare (5% chance)
Gerri is an excellent guide and knows Kruger, its wildlife, its history, its bature, its routes on the back of his hand. He makes the trip very personalized and goes the extra mile to get you the sighting you came for. We wanted to see a lion hunt and Gerri drove 2 extra hours based on a tip of a kill he received. And guess what, we saw a lion eating a buffalo.
Wonderful experience, made us fall in love with South Africa and Gerri and the team of Kruger Gateway Safaris get all the credit for it :)

This activity is A MUST if you are in the area. Guided by Gerrie who is an incredibly knowledgeable, professional and kind safari guide, we could see more wild animals than we ever imagined. Gerrie asked us for our top interests and he 100% delivered. We (2 adults with teenage son) had a once in a lifetime experience and the 12h activity exceeded all our expectations. Gerrie is a very professional host who loves to share his experience and you can feel the love he has for the Kruger National Park and all its animals. We would repeat this activity and experience any time again and again.

Unforgettable experience. We had one day safari with Gerrie on the last day of our one week stay in Kruger. We thought we had seen almost everything and yet, it was like a new experience all day long. We saw all big five, among which 13 rinhos, 2 leopards, 7 male lions lying together and a female with her 4 cubs. We saw the latter running away as an elephant chased them (as Gerrie had predicted a few minutes earlier). And this was only a part of the enjoyment. Gerrie's guidance, his knowledge and enthusiasm, made us appreciate everything that could attract our attention, from the smallest bird to the coloured flower in the bush. The beautiful pictures he kindly took for us with his camera would be the perfect memory of that day. Wonderful, unforgettable and any other positive adjective you could think of would not be sufficient to describe the day. Thanks you, Gerrie!

Words cannot express the gratitude we owe Gerrie and his lovely wife.
My wife felt ill overnight and we didn’t think it was wise for her to join me on the safari trip. Unbeknownst to me, Gerrie spoke to his wife about this who then checked in on her at our lodge, drove her to a chemist, a supermarket and then back to the lodge just to ensure she had some supplies to get through the day. We cannot thank them enough.
The safari itself was a once in a lifetime experience. Gerrie is an amazing guide with a wonderful ability to spot animals, even at a distance. Managed to see the big 5 and numerous other animals throughout the day. Gerrie took some amazing photos of the animals which he then sent to me that same evening. Do not hesitate booking this truly outstanding private tour of Kruger.
