- Irenelovesfood0 contributionsWonderful experience!I booked the 7 day Tremisana safari and it was awesome. Everything has been arranged perfectly. From the booking procedure and communication to the pick up and the game drives and activities every day of my trip. The food was delicious, the guides were terrific, the garden beautiful, the room clean and the overall experience exeeded my expectations. Getting to meet people from allover the world was an exciting plus! I would love to come back again and I can certainly recommend Viva Safaris 100%Written 3 October 2024
- Y8901JRmariap0 contributionsAmazing experienceMe and my mum had the pleasure to go on a 5 day safari at Tremisana lodge. The experience with Viva Safaris was truly unforgettable! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the warm and welcoming staff who made us feel right at home. Their hospitality and attentiveness were second to none and exceeded all my expectations. The lodge was beautiful—comfortable, clean, and perfectly nestled in the natural surroundings. Waking up to the sights and sounds of the African bush was an experience we will cherish forever. The food was another highlight of the trip. Every meal was delicious! Whether it was a hearty breakfast before setting off on a game drive or a delicious BBQ right in the bush, the quality and presentation of the food were consistently excellent. Of course, the safari experience itself was phenomenal. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the wildlife, offering fascinating insights into the animals and their habitats. We had the pleasure to go on activities with Nadine, Luke, Smiley and Rocky and they were all awesome! Thanks to their expertise, we were able to witness some incredible wildlife sightings, including the Big Five. Each game drive felt like an adventure, and the guides’ deep understanding of the environment made the experience even more enriching. In summary, Viva Safaris delivered an exceptional experience from start to finish. The combination of lovely staff, amazing food, beautiful lodges, and unforgettable wildlife sightings made this a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. I cannot recommend Viva Safaris highly enough—if you are looking for an authentic, well-organized, and magical safari experience, this is the company to choose! Guys, thank you for everything! We had the best time with you and we can´t wait to come back. Maria & MamaWritten 20 September 2024
- Lonewolf2280 contributionsYou'll love it.Wonderful experience. There are only 6 units, 4 were unoccupied so there were only 4 of us. The on site staff are wonderful. Tembe is essentially your private chef. A wonderful cook. She even baked a birthday cake for one of the guests. the Vivia Safari staff are wonderful also. The full day Kruger drivers/guides are knowledgeable. One of the Viva managers checks up with you at night and confirms the next day schedule. We saw baboon, mongoose, and hyena around the camp.Written 17 September 2024
- beckywJ5941MI0 contributionsWhat an amazing week! Thank you to all the lovely staffI didn't expect to see so many animals and have so many outings! The tour guides were absolutely great. Every single one of the staff at our lodge were great and I wish I could list all the names (Nadine and Smiley are 2!!). They always wanted to make sure we were happy, letting us be flexible each day based on our preferences. The amount of animals we saw was insane. Couldn't be happier. Even just before we left they took us out for a last minute horrah and we saw a Rhino up close! Breakfast lunch and dinner were all well done - kitchen staff were very friendly and good company. Thank you for a lovely week. The Lodge had excellent rooms and I'd recommend those. We could even see animals from our room and the pool outside.Written 9 September 2024
- MiaR8400 contributionsRun don’t walk to book! Worth every penny!I can’t speak highly enough of my experience with them. As soon as you get there you hit the ground running. They waste no time and you start with a sunset drive. My two favorite tour guides were Nadine and Smiley by far! You can tell they love their job and are so knowledgeable. They go out of their way to try and make sure you see the big 5! If you don’t, you know it wasn’t for lack of trying. I wish I could give them 5 stars alone! I will definitely book again with Vivas. The smaller drives were better than the full Kruger day. Also the food was AMAZING! Mama D throws down in the kitchen. Everyone was so personable and nice. I have allergies and they made me fresh gluten free bread every morning. 5 stars all around!Written 9 September 2024
- B6931XMkatherinea0 contributionsBeautiful South African safariViva Safaris arranged something a little bit bespoke for my family of five, with a pick-up and drop-off at Hoedspruit airport, 2 nights at Tremisana, 2 nights at Mark's Treehouses and a 'mini bush walk' at Mark's Treehouses just for us and the kids. I was really pleased to find Viva Safaris who offer a great South African safari experience, good food and comfortable lodgings without superfluous luxuries that I don't want or need. It was the game drives around Tremisana that we loved the most - we saw hippo, rhino and leopard which I had never seen before in my life, and the scenery itself is beautiful. Just sitting on the stoep of our family suite at Tremisana we could watch a variety of wildlife, including hyena, at a water hole just beyond the fence. The vehicles are great, offering a really good view, and all the guides we had were knowledgeable. We found that the day inside the Kruger National Park, although wonderful - we saw many animals and birds including amazing sightings of crocodile, African fish eagle and lion - was quite a long day sitting in a vehicle. One bit of feedback - I would have appreciated more guidance on tipping - I don't come from the same tipping culture, and although there was some written guidance provided (which I did read) this didn't explain it clearly enough, and I felt quite stressed and uncomfortable a lot of the time because I was so unsure about how much, when and whom I should tip, and feeling I was getting it wrong.Written 2 September 2024
- Roam537936169010 contributionsIncredible journey in the Bush with Viva Safaris !I went on the 6 days Safari (2 days at Tremisana and 4 days in a tree House at Marc's Camp) and it was amazing ! The organization was really good : pick up and drop off at the airport, great activities during the 6 days (2 days in Kruger Park, several drive games in Tremisana, the Maholoholo rehabilitation center and the panoramic road), good food and good accomodations. We had different guides for our activities, which is great because they all have their way for the drive game. All the staff was really nice and attentive. I saw 4 of the big 5 (leopard didn't want to show up) and a lot of beautiful wildlife scenes. This was an amazing experience and Viva Safaris really did a great job.Written 1 September 2024
- adrielc2870 contributionsReviewIt was our first time joining a safari trip. Overall we had a very good experience. Especially on the last day of our trip, when we got to see a group of six lions eating a baby giraffe from a very close distance. It was a stunning view. We were also able to see white and black rhinos, a honey badger, spotted hyenas, a lilac-breasted roller and more, both near the lodge and in Kruger national park. The guides of the game drives are generally well trained and can spot animals from such incredible distance and speed. One suggestion that I think could enhance the experience is to give the birds as much attention as the larger mammals. There were quite a few interesting birds that are worth mentioning like secretary birds but they were either missed or it was not highlighted as much as the larger mammals during the Kruger park drive. Additionally, we experienced very cold, windy and rainy weather while at Kruger National Park, which left everyone in the open car shivering. It was difficult to fully enjoy the experience due to the cold. Although I understand this weather does not occur often, a closed car, more blankets and/or recommendation for better clothing would be a better option if that happens again. Overall, the trip was still very nice especially with such nice food served! Butternut soup, beef stew, chicken, breakfast tomatoes and the bush braai… Last but not least, the room was clean and showers are working well. Nothing to complain.Written 1 September 2024

- 119naomiv0 contributionsAmazingOur experience with viva safaris was amazing! George and Welcome made sure we arrived safely at the Tremisama lodge where we stayed for 4 days. We got to meet the sweetest people there. They were so welcoming, nice and cooked amazing food! Our guides Lucky, Smiley and Victor made sure we got to see more animals than we could ever imagine and taught us a lot about the animals. We’d recommend this to everybody and we’ll definitely come back as soon as possible.Written 18 August 2024
- Sharon v0 contributionsAmazing safari!Last week we did the 4 day safari together with Viva Safaris and it was the most amazing trip! I would recommend this one to everyone. The fun of the trip already started with Welcome and George picking us up from Johannesburg and telling us about the culture and stuff. At the reserve itself it was incredible. The communication by Ed was really good and clear. The food was good. And guides Victor, Lucky and Smiley made the trip complete. Everyone was really nice to us and really funny. And on top of that we have seen a lot of animals. We are definitely planning to come back!Written 18 August 2024
- 706sinalys0 contributionsProfessional and very welcomingWe had an amazing experience with Vivasafaris. From the beginning, we appreciated Patti’s availability and reactivity in all communications (emails / WhatsApp) and for tailoring a 4-day tour of great value for our family. Transfer from Johannesburg to Tremisana Lodge was on board of comfortable buses with very helpful drivers. We enjoyed the stays at Tremisana and Katekani luxury lodges with very kind staff. We had very skilled and experienced guides with us in the parks for game drives and bush walks. They were all funny too. (I don’t know if this is part of their training). All big five were seen. We were fortunate to meet a leopard just near the lodge at Tremisana. We saw a cheetah and were very close to a Casper in Kruger. My family and I enjoyed so much this experience. The animals didn’t seem much bothered by visitors and they were kind enough to let us take beautiful pictures ;-) Vivasafaris also helped us organizing visits in Johannesburg with a tour operator, which was very much appreciated, especially for us, traveling to South Africa for our very first time.Written 12 August 2024
- 590tiagov0 contributionsBest experience possibleThe tour is really amazing, the Balule reserve is amazing as well. The viva Safari team are amazing, the guide guy called Rock is so funny. The lodges are perfect, with a lot of animals free. It was the best experience everWritten 11 August 2024

Thank you for the best time ever! The people of Temisana Lodge went out of their way to make this a wonderfull experiance for my 16 year old daughter and myself. Within 4 days we saw the big 5. - Meander193426588160 contributionsAmazingThis was my second Safari experience with Viva safaris. From booking the trip to departure from the lodge to Johannesburg, every detail was executed with thought and care. The drive from Johannesburg to the lodge was long but ample comfort breaks were scheduled aswell as a lovely stop for lunch. The accommodation was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Food was home cooked, nutritious and delicious. The game drives were beyond expectations. The guides really go above and beyond to make sure you experience as many sightings as possible. Their knowledge and enthusiasm was infectious. Special thanks to Victor and Rocky. Victor did not give up when all of the cats seemed to have disappeared from the Kruger Park. He found our group three lionesses laying in a bush. A beautiful sighting. His smile and rendition of Hakuna Matata are legendary. Rocky found us ‘Casper’ the white lion, a bucket list sighting for me. Then at the end of a long day in the Kruger park he gave us another amazing sighting. Just as we returned to Tremisana he was putting up the sides of the jeep for us to alight when he spotted a leopard very close to camp. He quickly told us all to sit back down, leapt back into the drivers seat and took off at speed. We had the most amazing sighting of the leopard. We were truly grateful as he had done a full day of driving us round and must have been as exhausted as us, but he still made sure we didn’t miss a thing. Viva Safaris deserve ten stars. Highly recommended.Written 2 August 2024

Collection from Joburg 7 hour journey there and 9 back in a small Toyota van. Very crampt and uncomfortable. Lunches not included as detailed in some descriptions. Accomodation very basic, dated with little upkeep. Meals also very basic with little choice. Kitchen hygiene standards were poor. Drinks including water availability was limited at the camp to when bar open from 7pm to 10pm only. We did the 3day safari. Only one good Krougar safari day out of the 3 days. 2 days effectively traveling but you start 9am first day, finish 9pm. Day 2, 7am to 5pm, Day 3 5.30am till 7pm. We did, however, see the big 5. Next time it will be with more basic comforts and not with Viva which would appear not to have invested or give much consideration to the guests experience.

Hi Duncan
I have been involved with tourists for over 40 years and from time to time, have had to deal with the odd miserable guest, who, despite having the good fortune of seeing the Big Five, sees fit to write a lot of nonsense.
The distance from JNB to Tremisana is over 500 km when we add the extra distance covered in fetching you from your home/hotel/hostel so as to ensure your safety. That distance requires 7 h if we drive so as to adhere to the speed limits. We have a 1h lunch break as required by law.
The vehicle is an airconditioned Toyota Quantum that is standard in the trade.
Lunches are NOT included in the 3 day safari packages so I am not sure where you get the idea that this is not the case "as detailed in some descriptions ". Which descriptions ? Absolute nonsense, (again) !
Our Camp Managers are appalled with your lies about "dated accommodation, with little upkeep" and " meals also very basic with little choice" . You stayed in chalet 4 with air conditioning and its own fridge and tea/coffee facility.
There is ample choice of food - read the previous 100 reviews !!!!
Water is available all day. Our hostess attends to all requests for drinks from 07h00 to 22h00.
Our kitchen staff have been with Viva for 25 years and know how to run a hygienic place.
It is clear to me that you had another issue that prompted you to write such a false review.

This experience was below our expectation. The given evaluation is mainly justify by the poor quality of accommodation. This is not the best option in terms of cost/benefit. For the price paid, we felt a lack of comfort on this experience.
The lodge was quite disappointing: the lounge was very outdated, need some renovations particularly in bathroom, our bed sheets were coloured and very used, the room had a bad smell, we didn’t had any hands towel and the amenities available had really bad quality.
As a good side:
All employees at Viva safari were very polite and helpful.
Finally, keep in mind that this is Balule Reserve Game (in great Kruger) but outside the official perimeter of national park. It took about an hour from our lodge to the park.

Hi Henrique
Thanks for taking the time to write a review.
We are sorry that the safari was below expectation. It seems that you were expecting better accommodation.
We write on our website that Tremisana Lodge is a basic and unpretentious accommodation venue. We do offer more upmarket accommodation at Katekani,Lodge, complete with private splash pool, bath, indoor and outdoor showers etc etc and the 5 star Ezulwini Lodges that offer accommodation on a par with any other lodges in the region.
Thanks for praising our polite and helpful staff.

For a first-timer safari goer that likes comfort in the bush this was beyond pleasant. We chose the Tremisana Lodge which has A/C in the rooms. The staff were excellent and helpful and at everypoint they ran on time. It is amazing to see how they orchestrate this with many guest arriving at different times and signing up for different plans. Super organized! The trip to the campsite is a 6 hour drive from Johannesburg which includes three rest stops and a one hour lunch stop at Dullstroom. Upon arrival, our guides took us into the bush at Balule Nature Reserve where the Tremisana campsite is location. It was a hot day and didn't get a chance to see many animals except for the ubiquitous impalas. Though other guest told us that saw hippos and the rare leopard the following day. It is a matter of luck! Then we had a campout dinner in the bush with candle lights under clear skies with millions of stars. We were visited by a hyena that got everyone excited. The highlight of the trip was the one-day visit to Kruger National Park (2nd Day). It was a 12-hour adventure. Our driver/guide made sure we saw as many of the big 5. We saw herds of elephants, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, 3 sitings of buffalo and 2 sitings of lions and many other species. The most surprisingly pleasant aspect is that all the preparation we did for mosquitos was not needed. Not a single bite for any (4) of us. It could be the time of year but we had no issues at all. Great experience.

We loved Viva Safaris! We were matched with them through the Kruger Park Tours company and could not have been happier. We saw lions, leopards, hyenas, giraffes, elephants, zebras, buffalo, wild dogs, a porcupine, honey badger, and so much more. All the guides were incredibly knowledgeable and spotted things very easily. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. All the staff at Tremisana were great too. Viva really catered to our needs, even taking us on a drive on our last morning even though we were the only group at the lodge at that time. We especially loved getting to know Eva!

I booked the three day package with Johannesburg return, staying at Masango camp. In general, I highly recommend to anyone pressed for time or on a tight schedule. In the three days I was with Viva Safaris, I experienced so much-they really keep you moving! The drivers pick you up from your JNB hotel or JNB airport for the six hour drive out to the camps. Although a bit of a drive, the scenery is stunning, so it goes by quickly. I stayed at Masango camp, which is on the same reserve as Marc's Treehouse camp. When I stayed, there were no other bookings for Masango, so Viva arranged transport and meals for me up at Marc's Treehouse camp, so I could socialize with the other guests. On my first night, we did a sunset drive on the reserve, where I saw giraffe, buffalo, ostrich, and plenty of impala and nyala. The second day we left early for the drive into Kruger and were gone until sunset. We saw so much wildlife and it was definitely the highlight of my trip. Our driver knew Kruger well, and we saw countless elephants, giraffe, lions, zebra, crocodiles, impala, wildebeest, ostrich, kudu, warthogs, and many other antelope. Unfortunately I didn't see rhinos or leopards at Kruger or on the reserve, but they seem to be more elusive and of course can never guarantee a sighting. You can hear the animals, including the leopard at Masango camp at night, which created an unforgettable experience. The third morning we had a morning walk throughout the reserve, and saw some interesting leopard kills and wildlife. Cornee took amazing care of me at Masango and I had a lovely stay. Masango camp has chalets centered around a pool and a dining hall/bar. The beds were comfortable and I had my own shower and bathroom which was a welcome addition to my accommodation. The chalets give you a good balance of comfortable accommodation, while still being close to wildlife that wander the reserve. The roof and walls are a bit drafty so recommend warm gear in the cooler months. Meals were excellent and, next to the fire at Marc's camp, were a great way to meet other safari guests. Monkeys and Nyala are common visitors, so was yet another reminder of how close you are to the wildlife. On the way back, our driver stopped at Blyde River Canyon where we got an amazing look at this South African landmark. I was back in Johannesburg by early evening on the third day. All an all an amazing experience. Knowledgeable guides, great food, comfortable accommodations, amazing wildlife- all in the span of three days without breaking the bank.

I'm not an animal person per se, but I'm so glad we went! Kruger National Park is the best place to go for Safari and Viva Safaris has an excellently run tour. Staff are friendly and knowledgable and that's what it takes to make sure you go to the right spots to see the Big Five and other animals.
Dusty (aka Shannon) was great at answering all our questions and driving like a maniac to try to get us to sightings as others reported them. I love how they work as a team. Be sure to sit towards the front for a smoother ride.
Our tour guide in Kruger National Park itself was Rexson and he is REALLY GOOD! This was the best day, of course as it was a full day (pics below). The last day is kind of a wash, a one hour 5:45am tour, and then the rest of the day is traveling back to the airport. So if you want more than one full-day, consider the 4-day or 5-day package. But, for me, the 3-day sufficed.
Also, I lost my iphone wallet during the BBQ the first evening and they were able to find it before I left! Amazing staff. Appreciate you all!

We have just spent 3 days owing this safari. Within the first hour of the sunset game drive, we had seen 4 of the big 5. The only one that eluded us was lion, which we soon found on the Kruger safari on day 2, when we saw 3 cubs from a distance.
Day 3 sunrise drive almost ended in disappointment, but thankfully we found a pride of lions within a few kilometres of tremisana lodge. We counted 21 lions in this pride.
The staff were friendly and know their stuff, the rooms were clean and kept warm. The grounds are lovely, and the food was nice too.
I would highly recommend this company if you want to see the big 5!

Very good tour operator. three day safari departing from Johannesburg hotel. First in a bus with other people. Stopped twice before arrival at Lodge Tremisana. First contact with animals in the afternoon. Lioness with four cubs. Next day: lion and lioness embraced, then leopard on the plant then gazelles, giraffes, zebras, elephants, hippos, monkeys... Evening dinner in the savannah with hyena watching us. Dawn of the new day seen quiet lions walking, eagle, elephants and giraffes.
Hearty dinner and breakfast. Great structure very welcoming

Buongiorno Loretta
Grazie di una grande rivista.
You were very fortunate to see a lioness with four cubs on our private reserve, Balule and then a mating pair of lions in Kruger Park !!!! WOW !!!!
And then a leopard up a tree !!
Thanks for sharing your delight at seeing so many animals including the hyenas at Marula Boma.
We appreciate your kind comments on our organization and great and abundant food.

Hallo , unsere Ankunftszeit liegt in Johannesburg bei 8:10 Uhr am Morgen. Reicht das für Einreise und direkte Abholung am Flughafen aus oder müssen wir noch 1 Nacht ins Hotel ? Zudem was passiert bei Verspätung.. M.A.
