This was a fantastic hike with great views along the way. Eric was a great guide that was very knowledgeable with the San Jose metropolitan area as well as the trail itself. He was always there to give us a heads up on where to step and educated us on the different type of plants we saw. He also brought some snacks and water for us as well, thank you. The lunch was at a very good local Costa Rican restaurant. The hike was about 4 hours in total with a few stops along the way. While the trail wasn’t difficult, there were some stretches that weren’t easy. Bring proper foot wear and you should be good. If you’re looking for something that many Ticas do and gives you a great view of San Jose, Costa Rica, this tour is for you.

the best trip ever, Erik was fabulous, in fact the best guide I have been with, hike was outstanding, technical and great waterfalls in the valley. Ride to and from San Jose was picturesque.

I’d like to start by saying how fortunate we feel to have stumbled upon Eric and his really unique tour. We feel privileged to write such a supportive review of Eric. I can’t say enough about Eric’s character as a person and how much he cares about so many things. I appreciate the small details and no doubt, the hours that he has put in to making this an incredible hiking tour. Here are some of the things we really loved about taking this amazing 2 day hike into the rainforests of Costa Rica. If you are considering a medium intensity hike through the slippery rocks and mud of the gorgeous Costa Rican rainforest filled with rolling rivers, lazy creeks and epic waterfalls - this tour was pretty amazing since it was literally just us, and not with 20 other tourists, just being shuttled in and out of tour buses. This was a leave-no-trace hike, and it was amazing to see literally ZERO trash or litter on the entire trip. If you are looking for nature, wellness and adventure as part of your trip to Costa Rica - Here are just some of the reasons booking a tour with Eric is a must- 1. Eric was always punctual. The sun rises only one time every day, so if you want to catch it… I appreciate the punctuality. 2. Always prepared for the crazy unpredictable weather conditions. He even wrapped my suitcase in plastic just in case it rained, and of course, it did rain. 3. Attentive to needs, injuries, other curiosities - and delivered on them without us even asking. Is genuinely an incredibly kind, thoughtful, and a respectful person. 9. Another huge thing is that Eric was focused on keeping us safe as tourists around town or in the vehicle and aware of our surroundings to keep us out of harm and really allowing us to really enjoy Costa Rica on another level. 10. Our hike up to Pico Blanco was incredible, Eric knows all the best trails and spots and is very knowledgeable about the area. It was just the two of us, and it was a really great setting to explore some nature around the city. He also makes great conversation, and provides snacks! Where do I start, I was a little indecisive about this tour but I am super happy I booked it. Not only was it my first time hiking but our tour guide, Eric made it enjoyable. He was super attentive, energetic, friendly, and super encouraging. He gave my sister and I breaks whenever we needed them and then we continued all the way to the top. His photography skills were on point and we were happy with all the pictures he took of us on his phone (he knew all the angles). Also, the view was amazing! Eric made sure my sister and I safely reached to the top and back down. The tour included a snack bag that had water, apple juice, a light & healthy sandwich, an apple, and 2 pieces of chocolate which was great! I highly recommend this tour! Thank you so much, Eric! 😄

Doticotours is literally the best! We went on three hikes with them and I 100 percent recommend doing the hikes. This hike was probably my favorite because It was breath taking and Eric our guide was amazing and he did the best job! If your looking for an adventure this is the place to do it!

This was an amazing hike! My guide was super accommodating in terms of adapting the hike to my skill level and it made for a great experience. The views from the top were beautiful and cooling off in the waterfall after was a perfect way to end the hike. My guide was also really easy to communicate with before and after the experience and it made it easy for me to know exactly what to bring and where to be to get picked up.

This was an amazing hike. Not your usual “tour guide” hikes from the tour books. Our guide Eric is really fun and knowledgeable and very passionate about his hikes and showing everyone the real Costa Rica. If you’re an avid hiker this is the one for you. Make sure he knows what level hiker you are. I definitely recommend this company. Will be seeing Eric again in the future for sure!

What an amazing day! Was the hike hard? Yes!would I book this hike again? Yes! The hike was so beautiful and the guide (Eric) was patient as we took short breaks. He was also very knowledgeable about the area. The waterfall was well worth the hike and finished the day with spectacular photos.

This half day trip was perfect! Eric was an amazing guide who really knew his stuff. He was encouraging, genuinely funny, a great conversationalist, and incredibly accommodating. Eric took us to parts of the mountain that most tourists do not get to see and it was a blast! He was open to going faster or slower, or even taking different parts of the trail according to how exhausted or energetic we were feeling. We had loads of fun and would certainly go ahead! Would 100% recommend this company, this trip, and especially Eric. We are going to actively look for other trips from DoTicoTours for the rest of our trip!

This tour was awesome. I could not believe I made it to the top and thank you ERIC for your patience and your ability to take good pictures lol. To all who want to do this, make sure you know your capability as this requires endurance and a "never-quit" mentality. But once you get to the top the views are spectacular. My legs were definitely on fire :)

Event hough the hike is only about 4 miles, it wasn't easy because it's climbing. The view at the top was all worth it! Eric was very patient with me taking breaks every 5 min lol. Y'all - I'm going to be completely upfront with you: if you want to really see parts of Costa Rica, and you enjoy hiking and the outdoors, then DoTicoTours is the place to get in touch with... our experience was so amazing, trying to put it into words just doesn't do it justice. I toyed around with the idea of trying to find hiking myself around San Jose, and I am glad I went ahead with DoTico's guided tour instead! Pre-Hike: I reached out to DoTico through both Instagram and through Email. They were extremely communicative and quick to answer any and all questions that I had. We coordinated everything from payment to pick up extremely efficiently. Day Of: We coordinated an 0700 pickup at the AirBNB we were staying in Barrio Escalante - Eric arrived in his truck on time and ready for us. We had a situation where we had to check out of our AirBNB because we were renting a car and driving somewhere else after the hike, Eric offered to take our extra backpacks (not for the hike) and store them somewhere safe so we wouldn't have to worry. We drove through parts of San Jose and just seeing different areas of the city we didn't have the ability to make it to was a real treat. The drive took us through mountainside towns and up steep hills - the drive alone was an adventure. Then we reached the trailhead and unloaded, warmed up, then Eric gave us our snack backs to take along in my Ruck and we were off... and immediately climbing! Our Guide: Eric was just hands-down an amazing guide. He knows that whole area so well, and kept an eye on us to make sure no one was getting too tired and that we were always safe. His knowledge of hiking, not only in San Jose or even Costa Rica but in many parts of the world, was truly in-depth and you can tell he absolutely loves doing this and taking people on adventures who also love the outdoors. He showed us lookout points, he showed us secret areas to climb to, helped take pictures of us and sent them to us when it was all said and done. I can't say enough about our guide - he truly made the experience unique. We hiked the peaks, took pictures, Eric showed us some wildlife including a nest that had baby birds in it, right on the trail, and then he took us down to a waterfall which was breathtaking, even in the dry season. After the hike, Eric took us to lunch at a local restaurant where we had a phenomenal Costa Rican lunch before he took us to get our bags, and then even took us to the rental car place so we could get our vehicle and drive out to the coast later that day. All in all - the entire event lasted over half of the day, and I cannot emphasize this enough, it was an amazing experience and money well spent! Not only would we do this very same hike again, but we're already looking to do one of the other hikes on the next trip out to Costa Rica - they have hikes to the beach, hikes to Arenal, hikes to other waterfalls.... we are looking forward to our next adventure with them already! 11 out of 10 - if you landed on this page and are looking for something to do while in Costa Rica, I Highly recommend DoTicoTours!
