- 224sophiat0 contributionsBest Activity- Must Do!!This was the best activity we did our entire trip to Costa Rica! It was action packed and fun. We got to have fun on the river, enjoy fresh fruit for snacks, and see a million iguanas! Our guide Esteban was the absolute best and I hope everyone could have the same experience we did white water rafting.Written 5 February 2025
- 775josiew0 contributionsHighly recommended!Such an amazing experience! Kay was our guide and made sure we had the best time! I highly recommend this trip. We stopped for breakfast at a local restaurant In a small town on the way to raft and it was great! It is a long ride from San Jose so bring water and snacks for the trip. We rafted for about 4 hours and were offered to buy pictures at the end. The cost was extremely reasonable and you get to keep all pictures. Will be back! 10/10!Written 5 February 2025
- MinnesotaIgel0 contributionsZipline even for beginnersHad a great time. If you're not sure about ziplining (my second time), although high and some lines long, it was not too scary. the staff asked whether I wanted to do another practice at the breaking motion (if you are going too fast at the end, not a lever and easy to do) even though I had just done the introduction and practice. This gear clipped you closer to the line so it didn't strain my shoulders. You get into position (no stepping off of a platform) and I could feel secure (tucked into a ball) then they send you off. We wore gloves, but we didn't have to use a manual hand brake rather to hold onto the handles. If you already love ziplining, you'll love the long zipline rides and the views. If you're a newbie and the heights bother you, focus on the end point and not how high you are. After several lines we were at a platform where you basically could take a short break with a couple of pictures and a free lemonade-type drink. Definitely needed the hydration at that point. Highly recommend it!Written 4 February 2025
- foxylady230 contributionsNot enough going on to be worth the travel timeLacking in activities, The basilica of the lady of the angels was very impressive. Lankester gardens very well laid out, unfortunately it rained rather heavy so didn't study the plants as long as I should have. Lunch was nice. The rest of the time was travelling . Expected to be walking in the valley and getting insights to the culture of the area. So disappointed, not worth the moneyWritten 26 January 2025
- 694gu0 contributionsGreat tourFantastic tour! Bilingual tour guide who was very good. The meals were delicious! Doka coffee farm was nice, and the volcano was cool, but my favorite was La Paz Waterfalls. Incredible! Highly recommend.Written 20 January 2025

- Susan H0 contributionsNot enjoyableWe only did the tram which is a 10 minute trip up the side of a mountain. I have to say I was terrified the whole time because the wind was so strong. The ride was not at all enjoyable. We could see some of the gulf for the first minute, but then the rest of it was cloud cover. At the top it was very cold and windy and you could see absolutely nothing. Also, they made us get there early and then after we had to wait 50 minutes for the ride back to the hotel.Written 17 January 2025
- DanFarr0 contributionsBird, spider and snake spotting then some exhilarating zip wires with fabulous views to finish the morning.Staring with a gentle walk across bridges in the cloud forest. Finding assorted birds, an orange kneed tarantula and a green pit viper. We then put on a helmet and a bit more kit and found ourselves flying over the forest on zip wires. Truth be told, we were a bit nervous about the latter but very well looked after by Didier, Bryan and the others. They were friendly professional and safe. Once off one wire we were straight into the next with minimal waiting. Great thing to do. Amazing views. Definitely recommend to all. A great morning. Thanks so much guys!Written 14 January 2025
- DoraexploraUK0 contributionsIncredible experience not to be missedThis experience was a highlight of our trip to Costa Rica. Would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Monteverde. The hanging bridges tour was very interesting and our guide Joshua made it fun and helped us get some great photos. The zipwiring was incredible to be flying above the cloud forest. Beautiful views, fun experience and very well organized with professional guides and instructors. Thank youWritten 6 January 2025
- Mario T0 contributionsI recommend this tour companyExcellent experience. On time scheduling and good choice of restaurants. Safe driving as well. Antonio and Donald were very professional and cordialWritten 5 January 2025
- Suzanne S0 contributionsWell run facility and friendly staffWell run facility with safety gear in place. Friendly staff. Be prepared for a very wet day since it is a cloud forest. There was lots of wind and rain and sometimes the rain would hit my face pretty hard while zip lining. Have very warm and waterproof clothing. Bring a change of clothes for getting dry afterwards. The cloud forest is gorgeous. All of that rain makes for a lush forest. The bridge walk we also did was easier to see the flora and fauna (slower walking the bridges than the zip lines so easier to see details). Had fun overall but took a while to thaw :)Written 3 January 2025
- Alyson B0 contributionsA wonderful excursion, especially if you have one day in SJHector was awesome: knowledgeable, patient, and a great leader. He doesn’t d a great job talking about significant locations in San Jose. There also was a fun musical accompaniment to our tour. He was very talented . We had a fantastic time, including lunch.Written 2 January 2025
- bjornhardemark0 contributionsGreat guide, great bridges but meh tramThe hangling bridges were great. First with Alex as our guide. He was inspiring, knowledgeable and warm and showed us animals and plants we would otherwise not have noticed. We also went on the additional bridges on our own, which was also great. We had rain but stayed dry with ponchos and had pretty good visibility. After the walk, there was a tram. This was pointless. Either do just the bridges or add tram and zipline.Written 1 January 2025
- D5180QGnataliew0 contributionsDo it, you won’t regret itAlmost didn’t go due to fear of the intense rapids - but oh boy I’m so glad I made myself go. You drive for a couple hours, end up at a cafe in someone’s house in the middle of nowhere - clearly a friend of the tour guides, where they make you a home cooked meal with the best coffee you’ve ever had in your life. You then continue onto the rapids, where they prepare you and then off you go ~20 miles down the river, only stopping halfway for a meal prepared by an indigenous tribe out of a handmade hut. Absolutely incredible. May be the highlight of my life.Written 26 December 2024

It was a long day as it’s about 5-6 hours on the bus between hotel pickups and drop offs, but the tour guide, Oliver, is very entertaining and patient with questions. He kept things moving at a very comfortable pace. I’d highly recommend this tour if you have a full day.

This was a very good tour all things considered. A couple notes.
The tour started later than was originally specified. It has originally said a 9 am start but we received a note the morning of that we would be picked up at 1030.
We stopped at a snack store along the way and were about to get some beverages and snacks. Much needed since lunch ended up not happening until almost 3 pm.
The park itself was a bit “canned” for my taste. Started off with a guided tour through a few zoo-type enclosures of birds, snakes, frogs, butterflies, monkeys and a few large cats.
Then free to walk along a path and see the 4-5 waterfalls they have. The path takes about thirty minutes and is mostly downhill (shuttle takes you back to the top at the end)
Lunch was good food though it came later than we were expecting or had planned for. We were able to order alcoholic drinks and oat a reasonable cost for them.
All in all, it was a good tour

Incredible experience outside of San Jose. A must see! Would not recommend driving yourself.
The animal sanctuary was wonderful and the falls themselves were breathtaking.
Gardens were well kept and beautiful.
Lunch was nice, but nothing special.

We have made many trips here. This time was very disappointing. They no longer put out food for the birds. The hummingbird feeding has been canceled. Fewer birds in general. Secondary dining closed. Orchids mostly phals…2 unusual ones.
The restrooms were clean. Staff was friendly.
We were embarrassed to take our friends there after bragging about it for so long.

The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The tour was incredible! Costa Rica is an amazing place & everyone enjoyed the rich scenery on the way to La Paz. Once you arrive at the gardens, it’s like stepping into another world! There’s so much to see & experience. It’s really an unforgettable experience!

My wife and I took this tour yesterday. We had the pleasure of getting Jose and Eduardo as our guides. I cannot say enough good things! Knowledgeable, friendly, funny, and safe drivers!! The La Paz Gardens are stunning! The animals look well fed and looked after. The guides walk you through the whole way and are respectful of the animals. They do not recommend taking selfies or touching the animals, although it is an option. The focus was instead about enjoying the animals respectfully. This is a big deal in Costa Rica and there is even a big hashtag campaign about it.
We saw beautiful birds in the aviary, got to hang out with the most adorable sloths, and go face to face with a Jaguar! Lunch is included and the food was quite good. It is a buffet, so many options.
Now let’s talk waterfalls and stairs. I total there are 4 waterfalls. Each is stunning, powerful and a hike to get to. My wife’s FitBit said we walked 46 flights of stairs. There are shortcuts if you feel the need to get close, but we went for it. We are both in moderately good shape (her more than me) and we both had a moment where we took a break on the climb out of the last waterfall.
Overall, the guides are funny and safe, knowledgeable and friendly. The animals are beautiful and well treated. The waterfalls are spectacular and memorable. Do yourself a favor and take this tour. So far it has been the most memorable for us on our 5 day trip! Thank you Jose and Eduardo!!

La Paz waterfall gardens is beautifully green and plush. The steps to the actual waterfalls were surrounded by great views and we were able to get pretty close to get some good pictures. We also enjoyed seeing all the various species of Costa Rican animals, especially the humming birds, but I was a little uncomfortable with the sizes of the enclosures. This was particularly true for the jungle cats and parrots. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our day here which was made even better by our tour guide, Daniel, who was truly excellent. Funny and knowledgable with brilliant English! The lunch was good too. Would recommend if you want a taste of Costa Rica’s natural side!

How long is the trail and is it steep, is it manageable for seniors
Written 22 March 2022
It is about two hours in the minibus that La Paz provides. It depends a little on how many pick ups they make in different parts of San Jose or elsewhere. There was one comfort break at a coffee farm on the way where you could get a cup of coffee and use the rest room. There was no stop on the return journey except to drop people off.
