Perfect all day beach experience. Costa Cat has you covered, and you really don't have to do much besides enjoy the day. Breakfast was served on departure (Coconut muffin and fresh fruit).
Once you arrive at the beach, you have some time to enjoy the warm beach water (Bring water shoes, as the sand/rocks in the water get pretty coarse) before snorkeling. As a function of the time of year, the snorkeling was a little more challenging than expected in the 10-20ft water (choppier and murkier water due to the rainy season). Still saw a variety of fish.
Shortly after snorkeling was a tasty lunch, and then the "banana boat" ride. There are two speed options, the faster option will take sharper turns and flip you off a few times (This is what my wife and I chose, which was very fun), and a slow option that I assume will not try to flip you off.
Towards the very end of the day, there is a 15-40min hike option that offers some great views and the ability to see some wildlife.
All throughout the day, your Costa Cat guides will frequently check up on you and ask if you would like any more drinks (Free drinks: coffee, water, margaritas, rum punch. Other drinks are available for purchase). They are also very good about notifying you when the various activities are going to start so that you don't miss them by accident. They also ask about any special occasions for which they provided some free shots at lunch for (We got shots for it being our honeymoon, someone else got a shot and the group to sing for his birthday).
There is a gift/souvenir shop on the island that seemed to have decent pricing. For example, I bought a pair of water shoes for ~$13 as I had not brought any.

Everything was really well done. Plus safety was highly visible the entire time. Fun, relaxing, all the CC employees were excellent but especially Marco and Stacey. Food on the island was great (best chicken in Costa Rica thanks to Olman) and cost of “non-included” drinks was very reasonable and we did not feel they were taking advantage of you having no options. I don’t have a problem with this and if more people go it is probably ok but it was only me and one other person. It was quite awkward for a little while. This should be better managed with a contingency if such a small and diverse “group” that don’t know each other then a guide goes with them vs sending 2 complete strangers into the woods.

Our trip to Tortuga Island was a wonderful experience. The Costa Cat crew was very professional and consistently made sure that we were okay and had what we needed. The drinks and food were included with the fee, and we're very delicious. We highly recommend using Costa Cat, 10/10!!

This was an outstanding day trip to make from the Jaco/Herradura area. The boat was exceptionally clean and the crew worked very hard to assure all of our needs were met. Following departure from the marina, the trip to Tortuga Island took about 45 minutes. The catamaran assures a pretty smooth ride. Once at the island, beach chairs were made available at no extra charge. The crew also assured that you had your fill of drinks. For those of age, complimentary rum punch and margaritas were available all day long. For an added cost, they also offer a drink called a coco-loco, which was rum and coconut milk, served in a real coconut. The bonus was the raw coconut that you could eat from the lining,
This tour also offers free snorkeling, banana boat rides and hikes for those who want to participate. A very satisfying lunch was also prepared and served on the beach (no extra cost).
As I said, Aaron and the other crew members worked diligently to assure they met all our needs! This is a very good company to book a trip with. You'll enjoy your day!

This was such a great experience with amazingly kind and attentive staff. We signed up less than 24hrs in advance for a Sunday adventure to La Isla Tortuga with Costa Cat and we’re so excited me did! They picked us up at 10am from our Airbnb then drove us to the dock where we boarded the boat for the island. The AC in the lower cabin was refreshing and provided comfort if you want to sit for the duration of the 45 min ride to the island. They provided delicious muffins, fruit, water, tea, and coffee. Standing on the side of the boat is so much fun, feeling the sea air, splashed from the boat, and views of the country while your headed out to sea. Once on the island, umbrellas and beach chairs were waiting already set up and drinks were being passed out along with additional muffins. They have bathrooms on the island with a designated attendant who cleans up after each person uses them so they stay very clean with no odors. Once settling in to our chairs snorkeling boats began to pick us up and take us to the nearby spot for swimming with the fish. The fish were beautiful! After snorkeling and beach time, a delicious lunch was served. Following lunch the banana boats came out and we started to ride those, so much fun!! After more beach and relaxation, we ended the day with a short hike with unbelievably beautiful view points. We even saw the wildlife of the island during the hike, it was very sweet and peaceful. The boat ride back was even better than the ride to the island as we watch incredible sunset views and saw dolphins up close and personal playing in the wake of our boat!! This was a definite highlight of our time in Jaco, Costa Rica. So much fun and great memories!!!!

As someone who is dedicated to traveling the full-time world and also as a tica, I always look for unique experiences to surprise my friends when they visit Costa Rica. Although I am from Guanacasteca and rarely visit the Puntarenas area, I decided to venture out to try Costa Cat Cruises, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made!

Best full day trip ever! If you book the 10:45am departure you can watch the sunset on the boat cruise back to Los Suenos. I wish the snorkel was longer - seemed very short to me. Food and drinks and service - all excellent! Highly recommend!

We had a fun day on this trip,everything was exactly as advertised and better. They serve a nice continental breakfast upon boarding the catamaran then our trip took about 45 minutes to the island ,although a few people did get swa sick so if you're prone to motion sickness take a precautionary medication. They kept the drinks flowing..margaritas, rum punch, water and brand name soda delivered to us on the beach or anytime we needed something to drink.. we actually liked the Margaritas much better than the rum punch.. I think it was a type of rum they used we didn't care for it.. also snorkeling was very good although water a little hazy, the banana boat ride was fun and the 15 minutes steep hike to the Overlook was well worth it..the food for lunch was excellent and plentiful... we saw Dolphins five humpback whales and two mating sea turtles on the journey.. highly recommend this Coastal Cat experience

Myself & a friend had the best time visiting Tortuga Island with Costa Cat II & crew. I’ve done this trip with another company already & I have to say that Costa Cat exceeded the standard by miles. I was extremely impressed with the staff; they were all super friendly, full of energy, very attentive & fun. They also dealt very well with my food allergies, preparing me separate, allergy-friendly food that was delicious (thankyou chef!)
This tour included the sun loungers with parasol, toilets (other groups have to pay), banana boating, snorkelling and hiking, making it excellent value for money. I would especially recommend having a go on the banana boats if you like a bit of a thrill.

Wow wow wow! This was the only excursion we did during our short time in Costa Rica and we LOVED it! We did the 7:15 departure and it was perfect. Our 45 minute catamaran ride to Isla Tortuga was accompanied by the most friendly staff, delicious coffee and iced tea, and a perfectly light breakfast of fresh fruit and muffins.
The island itself is beautiful, a literal paradise with wonderful scenery and a very swimmable beach that makes you never want to leave :) The 7:45 departure from Jaco allowed us to be the first on the island before all the other groups. Even when other groups arrived, it wasn’t crowded and there was still plenty of beach for everyone to enjoy. Snorkeling was amazing and my favorite part of the day. There are various vendors on the island selling coconut waters, drinks, etc. so bring extra cash if you’d like something that isn’t included in the tour! Be aware that there is no wifi on the island (which is honestly great!) but there is a little shop that has souvenirs and little necessities for sale.
Costa Cat has their own section of the beach, and it is no exaggeration when I say this crew is a well oiled machine. Loading off and on the boat, serving drinks, gearing up for all the activities, and gathering for the provided lunch (delicious by the way!) all went so smoothly and the crew seemed to somehow be aware of where the guests were at all times.
I hope to be in the Jaco area again so that I can experience this excursion again!

Even when other groups arrived, it wasn’t crowded and there was still plenty of beach for everyone to enjoy. Snorkeling was amazing and my favorite part of the day. There are various vendors on the island selling coconut waters, drinks, etc. so bring extra cash if you’d like something that isn’t included in the tour! Be aware that there is no wifi on the island (which is honestly great!) but there is a little shop that has souvenirs and little necessities for sale.
Costa Cat has their own section of the beach, and it is no exaggeration when I say this crew is a well oiled machine. Loading off and on the boat, serving drinks, gearing up for all the activities, and gathering for the provided lunch (delicious by the way!) all went so smoothly and the crew seemed to somehow be aware of where the guests were at all times.
I hope to be in the Jaco area again so that I can experience this excursion again!

What is the bathroom situation like? Also, I just saw the bot is air conditioned… can you go sit on the air conditioned boat while on the island if you need to cool down? Or if there is a storm?

There are two bathrooms on the boat. Boat bathrooms are a little more primitive than air plane bathrooms, but they work.
Yes, the boat is air conditioned. You are only able to sit there on the ride in and out. There is plenty of shade on the island to cool down. There is a breeze most of the time, so it did not feel too hot.

What do we need to bring on the tour? Towels? Hiking shoes?

If choosing to do the long hike at least closed toe shoes necessary but most of us only had flip flops.
Sun tan lotion and a towel - and change of clothes for ride home.

If you go on the Costa Cat website it gives you departure and return times. I believe they have two different departure times. I believe they are early morning and late morning

The marina is located about an hour from San Jose. I am not sure if they pick up that far. I had a rental and the other people either stayed on the Marriott Complex or had drivers.

About 30 minutes. There were young children, around that age, on our tour and they were fine. There are a lot of great views to keep them occupied.
