- mitac20140 contributionsBookworms tour on College Street, KolkataMy daughter and I went on the Bookworms' tour around College Street in north Kolkata. This is one the less popular tours, and I would urge people to take this tour for a number of reasons. As with his other tours, Kaushik tells wonderful stories illuminating the history and character of Kolkata. He helped us buy some books from the numerous stalls. This area blends together the Bengali history of education and the freedom movement. And of course, there is the famous coffee house where generations of students have hung out, studied, and plotted social and political change. This tour is also a great way to see north Kolkata, which can be more challenging with crowds and narrow streets. We are two women traveling, and Kaushik took care of us without it feeling oppressive. Thanks to Kaushik, we took the metro and the bus, which was so much fun. For people who want a different experience but might it (understandably) daunting, this is the perfect tour and Kaushik is the perfect guide!!Written 8 January 2025
- Natfrank0 contributionsPerfect Private Tour of KolkataWe had an amazing private walking tour of Kolkata with our 7-year-old! The tour was perfectly customized to suit our interests, starting with the vibrant flower market—a must-see for its colors and energy. Our guide KC was incredibly accommodating and added stops that we requested, like visiting a local supermarket and arranging for mehendi (henna) to be done, which was such a special experience. It was a perfect mix of culture, local flavor, and fun for our family. Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to explore Kolkata in a personalized and engaging way! Thank you KC!Written 20 December 2024
- Erika_Stefani0 contributionsbest choice for visiting KolkataBest choice we could have ever done. We visited Kolkata for a wedding and we only had 1 full day for visiting. KC customised a beautiful tour for us at very last min, taking us around and telling us lot of curiosities. it was an off the beaten track tour, as we wanted and he went beyond our expectations. Kolkata is not an easy city to visit. there is a lot do do and see and going around can be challenging if you're not from there. Having a guide like this, it made everything so smooth and so beautifully pleasant. highly recommended!Written 16 December 2024
- drchandankumarv0 contributionsMinute Details, Monumental Memories: My Last-Minute Kolkata EscapeIf you’re looking for a guide in Kolkata who offers more than just sightseeing, look no further than Kaushik Chatterjee. This guide isn’t in the business of tourism for livelihood—he’s well-read, well-settled, and does this purely to engage his intellect and share his passion for Bengal’s rich heritage. What makes the experience exceptional is the intellectual depth he brings to every interaction. Our custom-designed trip was an unforgettable journey through Kolkata’s layers of history and culture. We explored the city in the iconic Ambassador taxi, rode the metro, commuted on a ferry, and walked nearly 20,000 steps in a single day. Every moment felt like stepping into a live history book. Kolkata, as he presented it, is a city where history breathes through every corner. He unraveled the British Raj era in ways I’d never imagined—explaining not just the buildings but the context behind them. He showed me the hotel where Mahatma Gandhi stayed, first Rosgolla was made and the spot where Subhas Chandra Bose enjoyed his favorite sharbat. He took me to mausoleums and memorials, each with its own intricate tale. We even discussed the history of the “good British” and the “bad British,” and the city’s deep-rooted connections with Jewish, Scottish, Danish, and Armenians. I asked him about the people of Kolkata—the diversity of the crowd, the caste dynamics, the unparalleled importance of Durga Puja, and the city’s art and culture. He shared vivid, accurate accounts that I later verified and found surprisingly on point. From the legacy of Bengal’s eminent personalities to the story of Job Charnock (the founder of Kolkata) and the evolution of Bengal from the 1600s to today, he seamlessly brought centuries of history to life. One of the most remarkable moments was when he spoke about Sutanuti, one of the three villages that formed the foundation of Kolkata. It's rare to meet someone who can weave personal and historical narratives so effortlessly. Through every part of this journey, he encouraged me to ask questions. No query was too small or too challenging, and his answers were always thoughtful and enlightening. I came away with a deeper understanding of Kolkata’s art, culture, and history, and a newfound appreciation for its vibrant present. This wasn’t just a tour; it was an intellectual adventure. If you’re seeking a guide who will enrich your mind as much as your experience, this is the one to choose.Written 11 December 2024
- stefanies1730 contributionsBest way to get to know KolkataFantastic tour of Kolkata - heritage and cultural tour was a great way to get to know the city. We did a 3 hour private tour, by car and foot. KC is so knowledgeable and easy to understand. He made the buildings come to life with history, gave us a local tea experience, and walked us through the flower market (a highlight!) He arrived promptly and gave us options for the type of tour we wanted. Highly recommend!Written 8 December 2024

I got in touch with Kaushik and asked him to organise a tour for us...he was extremely professional, asked me about our preferences, mobility issues, etc. and suggested a tour based on our requirements. He is a treasure trove of knowledge and had some interesting information and insights on all the places we visited. We felt extremely safe with him and we would recommend him in a heartbeat! We learned so much, including many lesser known details that would be missed by many guides, in addition to experiencing an insiders look of the city. - 945grahameh0 contributionsA Walking Tour of ValueThis was a fabulous private walking tour exploring the real Kolkata. The tour was an explosion on the senses; smells, sights, sounds and a real experience that is worth doing. The walk was hot and humid. We explored the back alleys, the many temples and religious places of worship all near each other. This was supported by Kaushiks excellent narration, he knows hus history. It was well worth doing. The flower market was very interesting, learning about the journey of the flowers to the market, observing how each seller chooses their niche in the floral market, and the beauty that shines through in the busy, bustling market area. We finished the walking tour in a bus, an experience! If you have watched the roads, being right in the flow of it in a bus, bouncing around, was a fun way to conclude tour. I felt safe, supported, entertained and educated. Thank you.Written 30 September 2023

I am American and was visiting Kolkata for the first time and he was the true cherry on our vacay sundae. 1. His car was clean, comfy and had great AC which was amazing because it was the beginning of summer season and crazy hot. 2. He had a relaxed vibe and was all about catering to where we wanted to visit but was able to throw in extra stops to maximize our experience. K.C. is incredibly personable. We never felt awkward or uncomfortable. 3. His knowledge of the area was impressive and he shared in depth information about the history of not just Kolkata but India as a whole. 4. He was kind and a true joy to spend a day with. K.C. was genuinely interested in our Kolkata tour. He even drove us by his office to check out the mongoose family that lives in the grove behind the building. I highly recommend booking tour with Kolkata Story Tours. 11/10 You won’t regret it.Written 5 June 2023
- knbus0 contributionsAmazing experience!KC (Kaushik Chatterjee) was an exceptional guide as he shared Kolkata with our family. Our day started at the flower market followed by chai tea along the Ganges river, a tour through areas of theater, music, arts, and academics all while learning about the fascinating history and culture of the Kolkata and India. KC was always attentive to the needs of our group and coordinated with our schedule. Having a personal guide who shared not just knowledge but a love and passion for his home left us with our own special bond to Kolkata.Written 11 March 2020

- fentonhiker0 contributionsKolkata Story Tours with KC made our trip!We have been on city tours all over the world, and the two days we spent with KC (Kaushik Chatterjee) are at the top of the list for best tours. KC did two separate days of custom tours for us and both were amazing. KC took the time to understand what type of things we wanted to see/do, and in what manner (air conditioned private car vs. public transportation like bus, ferry, tram) we preferred to get around (we did it all). From there he constructed two delightful experiences. KC is very knowledgable about Kolkata and its history, and is able to explain things in a way that is interesting yet easy to understand. KC is professional but still warm and friendly. You will be missing out if you don’t connect with KC and Kolkata Story Tours on your next trip to Kolkata.Written 3 March 2020
- Vix_P810 contributionsBrilliant! We are living in Southern India for the year and had some time at Christmas to travel. We spent a day and a half with Kaushik as part of a very busy itinerary and it was it was one of the most fascinating parts of our trip. We had an issue with our flight which meant we arrived later than anticipated, Kaushik was very accommodating, starting the tour slightly later and organising to spend part of the next day with us which was not initially planned. My husband is very interested in history and I love street food, Kaushik incorporated both of these into our tour, also showing us the ‘real’ Kolkata, we travelled by numerous methods of public transport and retraced some of the steps of Saroo in the film Lion. If you want to do more than just tick the tourist boxes, and really understand the city we would thoroughly recommend Kolkata Story Tours.Written 24 February 2020

This is one of the best city tours I have been on anywhere in the world. Kaushik is incredibly knowledgeable about Kolkata and its history, and this tour is the perfect introduction to one of the most picturesque and interesting parts of Kolkata. In three hours we covered an enormous amount, yet thanks to Kaushik’s style of storytelling the time flew by. He also gave us plenty of ideas for what to visit later on our trip; recommendations that all proved to be perfect. I really recommend this tour - Kolkata is an incredibly complex and sometimes difficult to appreciate city; this tour gives you a very insightful and meaningful understanding of it.
If possible, I would schedule this tour for early in your trip to Kolkata, as you will leave with plenty of recommendations of places to visit later. If possible, you should also ask Kaushik about his other tours - I did a private tour with him later in my stay in Kolkata and that was brilliant too.

Headline: Go to Kolkata and have a tour with Kaushik!
What an amazing city, and what a great introduction to it through this walking tour. I have family links to Kolkata, but didn't really know a lot about it until now. Going on this tour was a perfect way to start to learn about this fascinating place, and left me hungry for more. It's a very early start, but that way you get to wander round the city at a (relatively) tranquil time and see it starting to wake up. Kaushik is an engaging guide. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the city and it is good to have the chance hear and understand the Indian / Bengali take on the Raj and the British in India, rather than what we might get at home. You learn a lot more wandering round the streets with him for a few hours than you could ever do from a guide book. I hope to go back again at some point and, if I do, I would not hesitate to get back in touch for another tour.

Undertook the lovely and enlightening walking tour yesterday. The tour guide, Mr Kaushik, had demonstrated extreme passion for this type of service, immense historical knowledge and highly amiable nature of interacting with his clients, which I found to be really worth emulating. His captivating narration of the rich history of Kolkata and correlating them with artifacts on various buildings and sites along the walking route, made a very light work of the 3 hours of walking.
I wish him all the very best in all his endeavours.

Thanks to Kaushik we ended up spending an outstanding morning in the streets of Kolkata. His knowledge about every nook and corner of this city is surreal, his style of narrating is unique and his ability to connect the dots between history, geography and sociology simply stands out.
We saw the city with his eyes and saw it like I have never seen it before. Same streets that I have bustled through during my youth visiting one office from another suddenly seemed to come alive as he explained the genesis and showed us evidences of his theory.
Given his tight schedule and multiple preoccupation I am not sure how many of you can avail this walk but if you can manage to book this in advance please do not miss the opportunity.
KOLKATA will stand out in your eyes

We took an exceptional walking/driving tour with Kaushik C. His normal tour is nearly 4 hours. Recognizing that some of our team members may not be able to walk for that long, he modified it for us.
He is exceptionally knowledgeable not just about the city but the broader context of the city’s role in Indian and British history.
He is a great story teller which made the tour a lot of fun.
Highly recommended.

We went for a Walking Tour with Kaushik Sir. It was my first Walking tour and I never imagined it could be so much fun and learning. We saw the sights and these were linked with stories and anecdotes about how the City came to being, how the British built it up and how Kolkata became a power center of the British Empire. It was an evenly paced tour and in the very beginning we reconciled that we would not do any tick marking stuff but enjoy whatever we could in the span of 3 hours approximately. What a wise decision that turned out to be. Kaushik Sir was a patient, passionate and extremely engaging story teller. I really enjoyed the walk, made some friends with fellow tourists, had cups of chai and now look forward to doing his many other tours. Thank you so much Sir!

Going for a heritage walk from Esplanade to Dalhousie Square, ending at the iconic GPO Kolkata with Mr. Kaushik Chatterjee, was a captivating journey through Kolkata's Raj Era historical heart. Kaushik’s intense knowledge and infectious enthusiasm brought the city’s rich past come alive, making every step feel like a walk through history. His storytelling, peppered with fascinating anecdotes, painted a vivid picture of Kolkata's colonial legacy and cultural depth. The tour was well-paced, insightful, and included delightful chai stops, enhancing our experience. For anyone looking to deeply connect with Kolkata's heritage, tours with Mr. Koushik Chatterjee are highly recommended for his many offerings. A truly enriching and must have experience!

My daughter and I had the best tour with Kaushik Chatterjee. I have been visiting Kolkata for over five decades, and Kaushik made me see the city in a different light. As other reviewers have said, he tells marvelous stories, which blend well-known histories with unknown stories. Kaushik provided wonderful insights into architectural details, pointed out small mundane items on the street that turned out to have real historical significance. Since we were the only one's on this particular tour, Kaushik was flexible, which was helpful since we were staying with family. Both of us kept discussing the various sights we encountered and Kaushik's stories hours after the tour, an indication of how effective Kaushik is as a tour.
