    Unforgettable Culinary and Educational Experience
There is no other guide like Soham: his passion for his clients and his city, his creativity in curating unique experiences, his encyclopedic knowledge of and gift for explaining history, mythology, economy... this tour in particular is a stunning whirlwind of the best local food the city has to offer, that doubles as a living history tour of the greatest, most interesting of Calcutta's neighborhoods, the deepest, Shyambazar, from which Soham hails, which he knows like the back of his hand. It's difficult to imagine a more authentic and exhilarating tour of any place, any where. Truly a mesmerizing experience, packed with flavor and lore on seemingly every corner, down every mysterious alleyway. Like a magic show playing with time - by the end you'll feel like you just started, barely able to remember every meal, and unable to forget. One of a kind. Must go.

Make the most of your layover!
With just a layover in Kolkata, we were super thankful to Soham for the Durga Puja tours which are the perfect way to navigate the streets and learn about the rich cultural significance of the festival and pandals, but also to experience the people, some food and craftsmanship. Soham has incredible story telling and takes care of you throughout the tour. He even accommodated for my vegan dietary requirements! If there is one thing you do in Kolkata, let it be one of Calcutta Capsule's tours.

    Food and Fun!
If you enjoy being down in the culture, and feel a little adventurous, this tour is for you! Having grown up in the area, Soham was the perfect guide to share the interesting history of the alleyways and also, to choose the various foods we ate! The evening was great fun and filled with wonderful memories! I highly recommend!

    Pandal hopping at Durga puja
It was one of the most beautiful experiences I had in Kolkata. Soham was ontime, extremely helpful and full of stories about Kolkata, history, the pandals. We could drink, eat and relax plenty of times. And mainly have not only the pandal hopping but a small visit of the craftsmen, the “behind of the scene”. Whenever I come back to Kolkata I will come back to the other walking tours of Capsule Calcutta

The chaos and peace of Calcutta!
This was such an interesting tour, giving a real insight into the different parts of what makes this city tick - the pursuit of knowledge and the pursuit of business! It was an incredibly hot a humid evening and, given that we were visiting some very busy and frenetic places, Soham was always careful to make sure we felt comfortable, never rushed and always hydrated! From the market to the book stalls, the sunset rest stop and the famous coffee house, it was all great and we loved it. Do yourself a favour and take the opportunity to try (and maybe buy) some pickle, you won’t regret it! This was the second of three tours we took with Soham and we have agreed he is a wonderful tour guide - interesting, kind, funny, passionate about his city - all the things you need to be a perfect guide! He will also share some very good restaurant recommendations- advice to be followed!

    Delicious, interesting and fun!
This was the first of three tours we took with Soham and it was perfect. We were tired and hungry, having arrived from the UK that day and we finished the tour feeling energised, well fed and thrilled to be in such an interesting city. Soham took us to food outlets we would not have had the confidence to try on our own and everything was absolutely delicious, including a mutton kosha which was like nothing I’ve ever tasted! The restaurants and food stands are obviously chosen very carefully, with a keen eye on food hygiene, and Soham goes the extra mile to make sure our delicate stomachs are protected. We felt we were in very good hands. It’s more than just a food tour - giving a real insight into how Calcutta came to be and how people have lived in this vibrant part of the city over the years. We took this tour, the Contrasts tour and the Magic Hour tour and we’d have absolutely no hesitation in recommending all three. Just brilliant.

    Awesome!
Highly recommend! Both a food tour and a history tour. He is obviously very knowledgeable about Kolkata. Includes a great variety of both savory and sweet tastes.

A wonderfully constructed your with a charming guide
This is a super tour. Very imaginatively constructed and the guide is so thoughtful and easy to be with. When we ran into some hitched due to heavy rain, he quickly reframed the tour, and we thoroughly enjoyed.

An amazing evening - would highly recommmend
It was amazing! Rather than just being a food tour, this is a brilliant evening walking through areas of Kolkata we would not have otherwise visited. All the dishes were excellent - I am still thinking of the mutton scotch egg and wish I could have it again! Soham is an excellent guide, who is very knowledgeable and entertained us with his stories of the city and the different dishes we were eating. He also ensured we were able to get a taxi back to our hotel when we were struggling in the rain - thank you again Soham!

    Excellent food tour!
Really enjoyed this. It was so much more than a food tour. Soham was knowledgeable, thoughtful and interesting about this area of Kolkata where he grew up, and about Indian history and culture in general. At the same time as chatting and being shown the back streets in a way I would have been unable to do without a guide, I got to sample a full range of well selected and delicious street foods. I felt fully confident in his judgement and local knowledge regarding cleanliness and hygiene. Soham was careful to look after me as a guest for the time I was with him, and super helpful beforehand helping me get there by taxi. A really excellent way to begin my visit to Kolkata. I would highly recommend it to anyone as a chance to sample street food in relaxed and rewarding company on a very well planned tour.

    Amazing Food Walk!
This food walk was a magical way to get to know Calcutta (specifically the northern part of the city). It was my first time visiting the city, and I had limited time to try all of the wonderful food the city is known for, so this tour was perfect. Soham is unbelievably friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. He takes you to delicious hole in the wall places you wouldn't know to try on your own, and directs you towards the best dishes they have to offer. HIGHLY recommend!

Soham's Alleyway Food Tour a Kolkata Must...
Soham shared personal stories from his alleyway neighbourhood, a history of Kolkata, and a wide variety of tasty foods & sweets from the best vendors in Kolkata. It was a pleasure to spend four hours on this amazing tour of an area... and food from outlets... that you wouldn't try alone. Hygiene and quality of food were a priority. Soham gave such an insight to the food culture in this easy paced walking tour. A recommended tour for anyone wanting to see the real Kolkata.

    A full stomach and heart!
The tour gives you a unique perspective of Kolkata’s history and the influence of its food culture. With enough options for vegetarian you will surely leave with a big smile and a bigger belly! PS: Skip lunch before the tour!

Wow, wow, wow. Brilliant 4 hour cultural & food tour. of
Wow, wow, wow. We chose this tour as it was focused on both the great culture and food of Kolkata. Soham (the host) lives in and breathes the air of the area of Kolkata where the tour is based. His intimate and historical knowledge of the area and where best to experience great local food was excellent. The tour lasted around 4 hours. Seeing many intimate areas of Kolkata local life whilst tasting around 12 different dishes / drinks. As vegetarians we chose the vegetarian tour. Although there is a non-veg also. If in Kolkata, reach out to Soham. A highly knowledgable and great host. Brilliant tour. Having been in India cities numerous times, this was by far the best food tour we been on by far.

    A fabulous and tasty experience
My goodness. Just an absolute 10/10 experience. Soham was everything you could ever ask for in a host. He was kind, knowledgeable and most of all passionate. Just a really cool guy to spend an evening with and the food he took us to enjoy was an absolute treat. We left the tour happy and full. I can't say enough good things about this tour and Soham as a guide/human. It was far and away our favorite part of our time in Kolkata and I would highly recommend it. I cannot stop thinking about the Kuthi rolls specifically. YUM. Thanks so much Soham! We had a blast.

The first thing you’ll notice about Soham is that he’s a passionate storyteller. The second thing you’ll find out is that he’ll go above and beyond to make you comfortable and have a memorable tour. This could mean he’ll go to the extent of gently corralling you out of crowded areas because he truly wants you safe. The area where the tour starts was practically his childhood backyard and you’ll notice it when his eyes will wear a distinct sparkle and the hands will throw around wildly. That’s his love for his roots. Our tour was on a Sunday and I met two other distinctly charming women who took the tour along with me. Soham catered to each of our curiosity quotient, whether it was to patiently wait alongside a keen shutterbug or answer 20 questions for one of us eager beavers. There’s more! Gifts, goodies and snacks throughout the tour along with the right dose of history and the occasional trivia. I personally loved the tour packaging with an extra large sampler serving of the living, breathing leviathan that Kolkata is. You will love and hate tidbits of this city, yet there’s just never enough of it to hold your judgement true. Soham brings the magic to this tour and he keeps it coming throughout the tour. I strongly recommend the tour to anyone who’d love a kaleidoscopic roller coaster into the past, present and through the very narrow lanes of colorful Kolkata.

Soham runs a great tour and I would recommend it highly. While the start is an early one there's a reason for that and it is well worth the effort. I'm Indian, but not Bengali, and was looking for a tour that would be insightful without being exoticising and the Magic Hour Tour accomplishes that superbly. It shows a glimpse of local life in a non intrusive, but knowledgeable way and Soham obviously loves his city and its unique culture. He's also very attentive to all the participants and keeps the group small so the experience remains very personal. Go!

Dear Soham
Thank you for showing me the heart of your beloved home town with your soul. I‘ll never forget the peaceful moment in the park during the sunrise, the tram ride in the sleeping city, the smell of the flowers at the market and the breakfast with the stunning view at the river Ganga.
Thanks for opening my eyes, I know now while it‘s worth it to come to Kolkata.

So worth rising early! I got to see a different Kolkata from a local’s perspective. We took all the local forms of transportation, which was so much fun! We saw so much of the city, from a non-touristy perspective and ate tasty food along the way. I highly recommend.

Excellent tour. Its not like some of the tours with so much information about the places that you actually get overwhelmed by the facts so much so that you can’t actually enjoy the tour. But it isn’t like those tours that have insufficient facts. It hits the perfect sweet spot, the goldilocks zone, blending facts and the actual Kolkata experience pristinely. I would highly recommend this tour to any person wanting to get the full Kolkata experience, while learning about its rich history.

Soham, the tour guide, is clearly dedicated and knowledgeable about Kolkata. He showed so many hidden and magical insights about the city. The tour was good for both first-timers to the city as well as people coming here multiple times, as Soham showed so many magical details about the city. The highlight for me was the end of the tour, going to a 250+ year old restaurant with . . . well, I’m not going to spoil the surprise. Definitely worth waking up early. With a small group of only six, all questions asked were addressed by Soham.

Five-star experience. I would highly recommend it!

We did a slightly customised version of the Magic Hour tour, and we had also gone in having already read the rave reviews on Airbnb. Notwithstanding, we were thoroughly impressed with Soham, his depth of knowledge, his storytelling ability, his energy and his commitment towards making the experience memorable for visitors. Being from Kolkata myself, I had not expected a guided tour to be so interesting -- but hats off to Soham, he has really put some thought into his tours. On top of everything the photos he shared at the end of the tour were really much more than we had expected. I highly recommend any visitors in Kolkata to try these tours if they want to have a immersive local experience.

Wow! What an amazing adventure we had with Soham!

It’s an early start but you get to see Kolkata at its calmest and it’s best.

The tour was informative and full of surprises but what makes the tour is Soham.

Soham is kind, thoughtful, knowledgeable and you feel like you have made a friend by the end. Our tour ended up going for 6 hours because we were having so much fun!

There are other walking tours around that show you a temple or a market but this tour makes you feel like you’re a local and shows you the hidden gems of the city. It truly is magic

And just when you think a walking tour couldn’t get any better, Soham takes photos of you as you are exploring and sends them to you after the tour has ended.

Thank you Soham for a wonderful experience. Can’t wait to come back and see you again

Soham was our Guide and showed us a unique city at a unique time. Experiencing the start of a normal day in Kolkata and utilizing the many various types of public transportation was a fun and exciting way to see the different parts. Soham was very knowledgeable and I surely learnt a lot from his explanations and answers to our questions. We also were able to have the tasting senses energized with delicious Karak and a traditional local breakfast that even the Locals were lining up and waiting for a table for. This tour has been well thought out to cover and tick so many boxes. It’s 100% definitely worth getting up at 6am and the photos shared after the tour is also a very nice touch. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would be very honored to recommend Soham as a fabulous Ambassador and Guide of his City and Country to all of my friends and family. I will stay in touch with Soham as I’m sure I will visit this special City again in the near future.

Soham had thoughtfully stitched this experience made of many beautiful small experiences. His deep knowledge of Kolkatta and the passion for what he does made this an unforgettable experience. This was my first walking tour in India and having done several abroad, I initially kept comparing but I must say he surpassed many with his thoughtfulness and great attention to details. That he is a lovely storyteller only makes it more enjoyable. I would recommend this to trip to anyone who is looking for experiencing Kolkata in its truest beautiful spirit. You will fall in love with the place, it’s people and great food!

The magical hour tour was so incredible. It really made my experience in Calcutta extra special. Soham was so knowledgeable, personable and helpful as our tour guide. We spent 4 wonderful hours trapsing across the old parts of the city by foot, cab and ferry, at the best time of day, early morning! Calcutta is a charming, sentimental, special place and Soham was brilliant in illustrating this through sharing his local golden insights and talented storytelling. I so look forward to touring again with Calcutta Capsule tours and very highly recommend this tour.
