- Sightsee078170519510 contributionsDay Tour Around DarjeelingAnyone who visits Darjeeling should use Adventures Unlimited! I was lucky to have Umesh as my guide for my tour around Darjeeling. We traveled to 4 different sights, and my guide was very knowledgeable about each place we visited. I learned a lot about the history of the area, as well as the cultural significance of each site. The highlights of the trip included a visit to a Hindu/Buddhist temple, a walk around a tea garden, and observing the evening pray at a monastery- an experience I won't soon forget. The team at Adventures Unlimited was very responsive and made connecting with my guide very easy. The price of the tour was also very reasonable, and payment was easy to complete. I will definitely use Adventures Unlimited for another tour next time I am in Darjeeling!Written 26 November 2024
- Inspire493888183360 contributionsThe Wonderful Singalila Ridge Trek and Darjeeling - the "Champagne of Teas"Writing this 5 star review is easy. I had two reasons for visiting this part of India; to trek the Singalila Ridge and to fulfill a dream of staying at a tea estate in the “Champagne Region of Teas”. Finding trekking companies to help me with my first aim was easy, making the second happen was not on their agenda. I read great reviews on Tripadvisor and contacted Adventures Unlimited. Catherine quickly responded, happy to design a trip that had two very different experiences. She welcomed working with me to put together a wonderful vacation. First, the 6 day Singalila Ridge Trek. The company was clear in describing my options, helping me choose the best one. I received an excellent list of equipment to bring. My guide Tenzi and porter Roshan were experienced, kind and caring. They were flexible, focusing on my needs and preferences. I’ve trekked in many places, but this is unique. Tenzi’s superb knowledge of plants and wildlife was fundamental in making this one special. The home stays had welcoming hosts, delicious food and comfortable beds! Next my stay at a divine tea estate hotel. Sitting on a beautiful veranda sipping exceptional tea made me grateful for the time Catherine and Gautam had spent making sure my choice was the best. Catherine checked in throughout my trip to confirm all was well. “She left me” only when I crossed over the border into Bhutan. Their excellent planning and the genuine care they took to make sure my vacation was special makes it easy for me to recommend you choose Adventures Unlimited.Written 20 November 2024
- AnnaK167080 contributionsGoechela trek: Extraordinary life experienceIt is second time we are exploring the hidden germs of India with Adventures Unlimited. We had been planning the trip to Goechela for the last several years and finally made it: 10 days trekking the Goechela Pathway, reaching an elevation of 4,600 meters. There was no electricity, no mobile phone signal, no internet, and no hot showers—just a pure connection with nature, time spent with myself and my beloved husband, and breathtaking scenery. Worth saying, we were luck to do this trek with Adventures Unlimited team: so professional, attentive to details, 100% safe, easy to communicate and just very good people. In this adventure team is the key. We were accompanied by Abhishek - our super-duper guide and his gang of chef, yakman, porter and 4 cute yaks. These guys made our trip so convenient (imagine brewed coffee at 4600m! and tent set before you reach the camp), safe, delicious (unbelievable varieties of vegetarian food cooked by chef) and fun! Thank you for this incredible experience! We will return again for sureWritten 11 November 2024

- 600cillianr0 contributionsA Breathtaking Adventure to TongluMy girlfriend and I had a short stay in Darjeeling and opted for the overnight trek to Tonglu. This worked out to be a great choice. The experience offered so much more than we could have imagined. One minute we were in a lush forest the next a charming Buddhist village and then a hilltop viewing point with the snowy mountain peaks hitting the clear blue skies. The landscapes were breathtaking and we were very lucky to experience some crisp clear weather with the mountain views out in all their glory. Our 2 day hike with our knowledgeable and friendly guide Abhishek exceeded all our expectations. I wholeheartedly would recommend Adventures Unlimited to anyone seeking a once in a lifetime trek with expect guidance and care. Thanks to Catherine and Gautam for helping us create such a memorable experience.Written 30 September 2024

- 765RichardM0 contributionsHard hike but totally worth the effortWe had many communications with Adventures Unlimited before taking this trip. Catherine was always quickly responsive, thoughtful and clear. We did the Dzongri La trek organized by Adventures Unlimited. Adventures Unlimited arranged the transfers after we completed the Singalila trek and rested a couple of days in Pelling; everything went perfectly. The night before the trek we stayed at the absolutely delightful Ejam Residency. We were met there by Abishek, their main guide, with whom we had explored Darjeeling before going on the Singalila trek. It was like meeting an old friend again. It hailed that night, a precursor of the weather pattern for the whole trek: rain or snow at night followed by clear morning clouding up as the day went on. Abishek led us on the two-day hike up to Dzongri, which is just a place to stay in preparation for summiting a close-to-14000 point for observation of Kachenjunga and its associated peaks. He changed some of the plans for accommodations due to the weather and his choices were exactly what was needed. He was able to make things happen because he seems to know everyone who works this route. He unfailingly pointed out things of interest as we walked and had tea breaks well timed to break up the longer (and higher) slogs. On our layover day at Dzongri he got us up at 4am so we could see the sunrise light on Kachenjunga. The sky was mostly clear and it was fantastic. We strung prayer flags on the summit his grandmother gave him for this purpose. It had snowed at night so the trail was somewhat slippery and Abishek took great care to make sure we got up and down safely and reasonably confidently. After returning to camp and getting breakfast, we went out rambling with him with no objective except to go where whim took us, not on any trail. It was exhilarating. In the afternoon, he and I took another walk and saw two Mona, the national bird of Nepal. At night, when the sky cleared, Abishek called us out of our room to see the stars through the parted clouds and we saw not only clouds but a celestial phenomenon none of us had seen before and I won’t describe because the reader will think us delusional. All in all, one of the very most memorable days in my lifetime. Throughout the whole trek, we were treated to consistently excellent food prepared by the cook and his helper who were part of our team (along with the wrangler and his ponies to carry heavy stuff). The cook even baked a cake! So although the hiking is hard and at altitude, it was actually rather luxurious for this type of activity. This trek completely satisfied my wife’s lifetime objective to see the Himalayas. No one wanting personalized travel in this region should consider anyone else.Written 30 May 2024

Friends is mine have used them before and raved out the quality of the service provided. We were not disappointed. The 5day 4 night Singalila ridge trek was an amazing experience. We got some amazing weather which helped! We were met before the trek and given everything we could have needed. Our guide Tenzi and porter were the nicest people it’s obvious they are well treated which is important to us. The really took excellent care of us in a no fuss manner and also allowed us to walk alone also which was brilliant. We’re hoping to return for another trek next year with Adventures Unlimited. - 22CMC0 contributionsTop Notch Adventure Planners!Catherine and Gautam are amazing adventure planners! I work with them every time I visit the Darjeeling area for work and leisure. They consistently make the highest quality travel arrangements for me, work around my hectic schedule, and ensure my safe passage every time. I've had several car rides up and down the Himalayas where one or both of them called myself and the driver more than once to ensure the trip was going well. This was particularly important this trip, in June during the monsoon, as roads were wet while driving through the clouds! I usually work with them to book transport to and from Bagdogra Airport to Darjeeling, as well as short tours around the area (Tiger Hill, day hikes). They never disappoint! Moreover, they are creative in how to problem solve when issues come up. When it was still a travel requirement, they were able to help me find reliable COVID testing. They were also able to help me quickly book train tickets on a comfortable overnight with my own bed and air conditioning to Kolkata when my flight home was suddenly cancelled. They have my highest recommendation, and I will continue to work with them every time I am in the Darjeeling region.Written 29 June 2023

Adventures Unlimited offered me different options for my solo weekend in Darjeeling, and I ended up going for a 1-day tour with one couple who were happy to have me joining them.
We all had an amazing, unforgettable experience with our guide Ajay, who took us on a 18 km trekking, with incredible views of the Himalayas, tasting local food, teaching us about the environment, plants and animals, and also taking very artistic pictures of us! The itinerary had a perfect balance between challenging, enjoyable and varied.
All the team is super professional, they take great care of the customer in every moment, and deliver beyond what's expected. Worth every rupee!

Catherine helped me arrange a 4 day trek in March. I wanted to do it at my own pace rather than in a group with varying trekking abilities, so she sorted a solo trek for me. It was the best thing that I’ve done in India so far, really lucky with the weather, loads of snow and clear mornings to catch sunrise and the occasional sunset. If I was doing it again (which I will) I’d go for a 5/6 day trek. My guide was Ajay, who’s an absolute legend, properly looked after me and always made sure that I was well fed and full of tea. Even sent me to bed with a hot water bottle on the colder nights. Would 100% recommend. Catherine and her family are great! Really responsive and helpful, always doing her best to make things easy for you. You can’t go to Darjeeling and not do this trek.

This was perhaps the best week of my 2 months spent in India! It was both challenging and incredibly rewarding to wake up to panoramic views of Kanchenjunga to Everest in the distance (and everything in between). Catherine and Gautam were so helpful and very understanding of your needs from start to finish. They were very well equipped and ensured we had the equipment to take on our trek that was appropriate for the weather that week. They made it a very well organised and smoothly operated trek. Sonam, our guide, was the most accommodating and kindest guide. He was patient and very attentive, and was there to help whenever we needed to help guide us through bamboo forests, snow to the lovely quaint villages. Every place we stayed at had the most hospitable hosts, that made us feel at home ensuring that we ate well, slept well and that we were never out of tea! (We even had the chance to learn to make momos on one of the last evenings; an added bonus!)
I honestly can't recommend this enough to anyone. I'm already looking forward to coming back and booking another trek with them, perhaps in Sikkim next time.

We've hiked and travelled a lot, and Adventures Unlimited offered something exceptional. This is a husband and wife team. We found through The Lonely Planet and mailed their company and one other. Catherine responded immediately - every question responded to in no time with friendliness and efficiency. The booking process was a pleasure.
The organisation of the trip was seamless: We were collected at the airport, Catherine came to our hotel to greet us, later someone delivered a spotless backpack and freshly laundered sleeping bags.
Gautam and Catherine went the extra mile - advising us on places to visit in Darjeeling, including where to buy the best tea!
Our guide, Jigmay, was exceptional. He took tremendous care with every tiny detail of the trek and is wonderful company, showing many kindnesses (e.g he brought us hot water bottles at high altitudes) , a keen sense of appreciation of people, and a lovely sense of humour. We thoroughly enjoyed our 6 day trek, saw spectacular views of Kangchenyunga and learnt a lot about another culture, and the lifestyle of nomadic peoples.
The food was generous, the quality of vehicles good, with experienced and careful drivers (unlike what another couple with a different company reported).
We cannot recommend Adventures Unlimited highly enough

We had a fantastic experience with Adventures Unlimited! We did the overnight trek to Tonglu. Catherine was extremely communicative and did an excellent job answering our questions and working out all of the logistical details. We did not have to worry at all about transportation, food, accommodations, etc., which was a welcome relief, and the entire experience ran exceptionally smoothly. Our local guide was warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the trek, local community, and environment. He took the time to answer all of our questions in depth and explained the local fauna and cultural traditions of the region, really making for an immersive and fascinating experience. The trek itself was beautiful and fun, just the right amount of challenging, and the trail was right on the border, taking us in and out of Nepal, which added to the experience. Our guide was flexible and open to customizing our trip; for example, he took us a bit further than originally planned when we reached Tonglu faster than expected, a huge bonus that really added to our experience. We ate a variety of delicious and hearty meals that felt very authentic and gave us a sampling of the local cuisine. I have only positive things to say about the trek, and I would highly recommend Adventures Unlimited to anyone interested in an authentic, adventurous, well-organized, and memorable experience in the Darjeeling region.

I did both a day hike and the 6-day Singalila Ridge Trek with Adventures Unlimited. Catherine and Gautam were incredibly welcoming and put me at ease from the start! They really went above and beyond, not only ensuring that my treks went well, but also helping me navigate logistics throughout my time in Darjeeling.
I started off with a day hike to a tea garden with Ashish. He was a wonderful guide, really fun to chat with a knowledgable about the area. The hike was near his village, so I had the chance to have lunch at his neighbor's house, which was a lovely experience. It was a great day and a perfect way to get ready for the longer trek!
As for the trek, I ended up doing an alternate version of Singalila Ridge to avoid some of the crowds along the usual route. This meant lots of peaceful homestays in idyllic settings while still being able to enjoy a wonderful sunrise from Phalut. Each homestay was comfortable, with probably the best (and most) food I've ever enjoyed on a trek. It was also lovely to be able to stop for tea and water along the way. Tenzi was a fantastic guide - consistently attentive and helpful, with a thorough knowledge of wildlife (especially birds). Being from the area himself, he also had a great rapport with the local communities, which added to the positive experience.
Thank you guys so much for helping to make my trip to Darjeeling unforgettable - hoping to come back someday for mountain biking or trekking in Sikkim!

While I like to keep fit, turns out mountains around here are quite different from the ones in the eastern Himalayas of India. I signed up for a trek along with my buddy Lukas and we got in touch with Adventures Unlimited to help us out. Talking to Catherine and Gautam immediately put me at ease and they patiently answered all of my thousand questions! This wasn't exactly an easy trek, but our guide Jigme sure made it a breeze. He seems to have an intrinsic understanding of the mountains and its cranky weather systems, and most of all,he understood our every need. We spoke at length about where he comes from and his culture, and he schooled me about the birds and animals of the area. We stayed at home stays,a first for me, and it really moved me a little. We were served amazing food that totally agreed with my delicate stomach. By the end of it, the views I got to see from Phalut blew my mind! The mountains just opened up before my eyes and I could see mount Kanchenjunga and Everest together, something I never thought was possible.
If you're swinging by Darjeeling, I'd highly recommend doing this trek, it will change your life! I'm definitely bringing my wife back for this one.

We were a group of 5 people of varying fitness levels.
Had a great time with Catherine, Gautam and our guide Amar. They helped create a customized itinerary for us that allowed us to do the trek till Sandakphu and back in 4 days. Were extremely helpful and very involved - visited us in person the evening before the trek and gave a lot of info, we needed some help with coordination on the way and their responsiveness was great, sent some coffee/ cheese / cake kind of goodies for the way, and more; have a genuine passion and desire to help one have the best experience, which shows through in general
Would recommend them very highly.

Adventures Unlimited organized and executed a terrific, customized Singalila Trek experience!
The biggest strength with Adventures Unlimited is the personal touch they add, making sure you get the trek that fits with your schedule and hiking level. Their Sales and Operations head, Catherine, was instantly responsive and flexible with ideas when I suggested what I was looking for--we worked together to design a 4-day itinerary.
Before the trek, Catherine made sure to meet with me to go through a safety briefing and confirm that I had all the equipment needed. The next day had easy pickup from my hotel in Darjeeling, and I was handed off to my guide, Arpan.
The journey took me from Dhotrey to Tonglu to Sandakphu to Phalut to Srikhola before returning via car to Darjeeling. Total 38 miles and 10,200 feet of elevation gain over 4 days. Views of Kangchenjunga were prominent for 3 days on this route, and Mount Everest was visible from Sandakphu. The scenery was lovely, and in April, there were rhododendrons in full bloom all over.
I was trekking solo, and Arpan did a great job of setting/keeping good pace with my capabilities. He made good conversation, but also gave me space when I wanted to be with my own thoughts. I was very happy with his approach to the trek.
All food and accommodations we taken care of, ranging from simple hotels to homestays with mostly family cooked meals. All food was good, and never needed to rely on any extra snacks. Plenty of tea along the way, and Catherine had provided coffee to me for mornings.
I will note that for those looking to do this faster version of the hike, the Phalut to Srikhola segment was very difficult on my knees. I highly recommend having hiking poles (provided) as it was 4:30 of downhill hiking.
Upon completion, Catherine reached out to see how the trek went and make sure that she could meet me when I got back. All of these small touches of concern really made Adventures Unlimited stand out as committed tour company. I was dropped off at my hotel and they came to me to collect borrowed equipment.
I highly recommend Adventures Unlimited for your Singalila experience; they really put customers first!

I did the 5 day singalilia ridge trek and it was one of the best experiences of my life. The trek is challenging in parts but with the support of our fabulous guide Tenzi and fuelled by the amazing food and lots of tea, we did it! You really get bang for your buck on this trek, with views of 4 out of 5 and of the worlds highest peaks.
I was a little apprehensive before the trek about my physical fitness and Catherine couldn’t have been more helpful providing reassurance, checklists, and equipment such as a sleeping bag and liner to make sure I was cozy at night.
I loved that we had a local guide and stayed in homestays along the route, which meant we were supporting the local economy which relies heavily on tourism, unlike some other trekking companies. The car transfers, accommodation and food was all fantastic. I really couldn’t fault this. I am going home with lots of great memories. Thank you Catherine and Gautam, I’ve never felt so well looked after 🥰
