A very informative and congenial tour to enjoy in this busy city
Thank you to Satish for sharing the history of Chennai with such knowledge and intelligence - from its East India Company roots and the growth of its political and trading past at Fort St George, as well as taking us beyond the immediate historic legacy of this aspect of the city: to Parrys corner and the markets and temples around the High Court - including a very tranquil visit to the Armenian church. It was a pleasure to spend time with him and to learn so much about this vibrant place; we enjoyed the additional bonus of eating and drinking the regional beverages and street food that he made part of the tour. In short, book this tour, if you want to ensure you make the most of your time in what can feel like a very modern city, to enjoy a glimpse of its past with a charming guide. 5/5 for sure!

Fort St George - great history, culture, and food!
I had a great trip with Satish! For the first time I really felt the personality of Chennai. Satish was very knowledgeable about the history of Fort St George and the surrounding area. He was friendly and easy to converse with, and took me to try some lovely food and drinks. I really enjoyed this experience.

    Fort George Chennai Walking Tour
We had an excellent walking tour with 5 senses lead by Satish. We started at the Fort George Museum which is a pleasing step back in time to the way museums were in the 1950's. We then went to St Mary's Chuch , an elegant late 17th century building where Robert Clive was married. We continued through the Fort around the Law Courts and into the crowded market area where we stopped for excellent refreshments opposite the Armenian Church and continued through the various section of the market to finish at a busy Temple to Siva. Satish was an excellent guide answering all our many questions and gave excellent background to the many ways that Tamil Nadu is very different from Northern India. The walk was over 3 1/2 hours in the end and was extremely rewarding. Satish then helped us pick up a Tuk Tuk in the crowded flower market in order to ensure that we returned home safely.

A Reassuring and Enjoyable Local Shopping Experience
Thanks to Nivi from 5 senses, I thoroughly enjoyed purchasing sarees and jewelry at T. Nagar, an exciting shopping destination in Chennai. Don’t be alarmed by the mention of “sarees and jewelry.” This isn’t about dragging tourists from one emporium to another. She guided me to well-known, local shops with a genuine reputation and assisted me throughout the purchasing process. Although I live in Delhi, speak Hindi, and am familiar with Indian culture, shopping with a local lady like Nivi was incredibly reassuring. This was my second tour with 5 senses, and I found absolutely nothing unpleasant—a truly valuable experience while traveling in India. My gratitude to them!

    A pleasant walk through history
Satish, our mentor and guide on this walk, took us through the corridors of historical Madras. With liberal sprinklings of historical information, anecdotes as well as humorous observations, this was easily one of the best experiences I have had in my visits to Chennai, or Madras as I would love to call it. Not only did we visit Museums and monuments of historical importance, but also forgotten pages of local history through little churches and food joints where we tasted local delicacies. A must-have experience!

    Remarkable Experience
It was a wonderful trip! What we really liked was that it was customised to our pace and preferences, so that we were able to spend time on the things that we liked. Our host, Satish, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We started at the Fort St George, and then moved on to Parry’s Corner, Armenian Church, and ended at Flower Bazar. We walked through the heart of colonial Madras and it was wonderful to navigate through the vibrant streets filled with heritage buildings, old churches and bustling bazaars. Thanks to 5 senses tours for giving us a memorable time!

    Multisensory walking tour
Chennai can feel overwhelming but the tour was well structured and informative. It was a good mix of history, walking and culture all broken down into bite-sized portions which kept you engaged throughout. The food stops were well chosen and manageably spicy. Cannot recommend enough!

    Very good tour!
We had a wonderful tour with Mr. Satish. We really appreciated his knowledge of Chennai’s history , as well as all the information he shared about the area. We learned so much and really enjoyed his patience with my many questions! Lunch was great and tips for traveling to other special sites in Tamil Nadu are most helpful.

    Fascinating Georgetown walk
My daughter and I went on the Georgetown heritage walk with Mr. Satish and highly recommend it. The Fort St George Museum was great and Mr Satish highlighted some of the most interesting details. The walk through “Town” or Georgetown was fascinating - and he took us inside the old Armenian church, which I have never seen. Overall, a great experience, and I recommend it!

We had excellent communication from the company before the tour. On the day, we met Hareesh and spent the next three hours learning about (and experiencing) local architecture, history and religion. Hareesh was extremely knowledgeable and shared his own experiences with us, as well as helping us navigate the complex and fascinating temples. His English is great.

I learnt about the relationship between Hindus and the planet Saturn, the role of the huge body of water next to the Kapaleeshwar Temple, that there are only three sites globally holding the remains of the apostles.

Remember to wear comfortable shoes that are easy to slip on and off as you can't wear them in the temples, and make sure shoulders and knees are covered. It's also worth noting that photography isn't allowed inside any of the religious buildings.

If you have the time, take a tuktuk to Mylapore. It was really worth it.

What an amazing tour! Went with husband and 2 kids (18 and 20) with Kannan and driver Anand Babu for a magical 4 hours of stories and the history, culture and customs of the sites on this itinerary. We learned so much - and much more than I could through a guide book. Highly recommended!

What a great tour. Kannan was a super guide giving us excellent depth of information on the sights we visited. He took us into the temples and monuments to give us a real feeling of how the devotees enjoy their time there. Smashing coconuts was very much fun.
100% recommend Kannan and the team who looked after us from airport pickup, fab tour and dropped us at our accommodation. They even helped us change our hotel to find a better location.

Really great tour with Kannan, he is so knowledgeable about the temples and churches. Highly recommend this tour. I opted for the hotel pickup and drop off which was ideal. The driver was very professional. Kannan even made an extra stop on the tour to The Shrine of Our Lady of Health which was so interesting to visit. I would highly recommend this tour to get a real view of the city and temples

Preethi gave a great tour of Mylapore. We visited Places we visited today Ramakrishna Math, Kabaleeswara Temple, Vasyapujya Jain Temple, and St Thomas Basicilca. Plus, Preethi was so accommodating to let us stop for dupattas, visit a brass shop, and pick up flowers and candles for the arti. She was a great guide - knowledgeable, friendly, and flexible! Will be doing a second tour with her today. I also recommend the walking tour, the slow pace means you notice so much more than when driving! We had the best luck to see a Saibaba procession just a few days before his birthday and the Jain temple allowed us to do the arti. Such a great time!

This tour is great for people who want to get more familiar with the history, culture and life in Chennai. Kannan was kind and gave a lot of insight into the temples, churches and the stories behind them. We had a bit of extra time and, therefore, we were able to make an additional stop on the tour. It was good value for the money and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to dive a little deeper into the culture of Chennai.

Went on this tour with Kannan
Phenomenal.
I really really enjoyed it beyond words. He was a great tour guide, very patient and knowledgeable, extremely accommodating and i cannot recommend this tour enough. He went out of his way to ensure I had all my questions answered and took a detour to show me some landmarks.
If you have 1 day in chennai, take this tour it will certainly make your visit worthwhile.

The walking element made the tour feel very engaging and immersive. Our tour guide, Abijoshua was very knowledgeable and was able to answer any additional questions we had. The trip pace was also very good- enough information but we never were at a single location for too long.

Tip: As a reminder, avoid wearing shorts for the temples (although some accommodations were available for our group) and I recommend supportive sandals, as the tour requires shoes to be taken off in most stops.

An absolute must if you are visiting Chennai. Our guide Srikrishnan was so informed and charming, he brought to life our tour and most importantly left us wanting more! We only had one day in Chennai, as we were just passing through - I cannot recommend this enough to get a sense of the foundations of the culture and history of Chennai and the south of India.
