About the operator
- Curiosity2765288107400Tour of MumbaiMukesh was the best driver we could have ever asked for! He was very friendly, easy to talk with, and knowledgeable about the best places to see while visiting Mumbai. We felt very safe with him throughout the day as he has great hospitality, recommendations, and even told us about the history/current events of Mumbai.
- alessandramP3237BA00Amazing Bombay TourNamaste! We had a great tour with our guide Anthony today. Apart from the many tourist places and sights of Mumbai, he also showed us insights into very special, not so well known places. His basic knowledge of Mumbai is amazing and he is always courteous and responsive to requests. We had the special case of going to a wedding and he helped us find the clothes we needed. The food we ate together was really great and we not only take away great spices from the market visit, but also heartwarming and great memories that we collected together with Anthony. Thank you so much for the time and the experience, my friend!
- David P00Incredible experienceVery insightful and informative tour. Our guide Mukesh grew up and still lives in the slums and was able to talk in great detail about the industry and daily lives of people who live in the residential areas. Mukesh was very friendly and caring and we felt totally at ease during the tour. Thank you so much.
- stevenlJ7620AQ00Phoenix from the flamesBooked this through Getyourguide who seem not to have confirmed the booking with Mystical Mumbai. To cut a long story short, the trip started two and a half hours late. Luckily, our guide (Raj) and driver (Mukdesh) made up for it. They were fun, entertaining and accommodating (whilst doing their job by selling us a few enjoyable extras!). Would definitely recommend them if you want an enjoyable, but not serious, glimpse of Mumbai.
- O5044CPcatherinec00A must do in MumbaiThis was a highlight of our trip. Anthony welcomed us to his home where his family spent the afternoon cooking with us, eating together and giving us lots of information about the history of the area. We cooked a selection of vegetarian dishes and were given local sweets after also. Everything was easy to follow and we will definitely be making them when we return home.
- Paradise1989990582800Mumbai TourAnthony did a wonderful job showing us around Mumbai. He had many interesting facts and insights regarding our stops and also was nice talking to about all the random questions we asked him not related to the tour. :) Thanks Anthony!
- Quest2648357898200Mumbai TourThe tour with Antony was really interesting as he knows a lot about the culture in mumbai. He will show you a lot of different places which are not on the typical touristic tour. I can highly recommend it.
- carlarJ1233FN00Excellent Tour! This was a wonderful tour. Mukesh was our tour guide and did a fantastic job of taking us to the sites that were relevant. He is very knowledgeable and personable.
- Kaylatiana800Great!Dev was very knowledgeable! He was able to provide a brief interesting history lesson as we were on the tour which makes you appreciate the sights you see so much more. He was very helpful and friendly! Made me more comfortable to travel in India. Definitely a must for first time traveler to India

- Jyoti H00Super interesting experienceI great and interesting experience. We see a lot of things. We hope that so many people can come and see this reality. Thank you Raj
- pernillenbor00Amazing! MUST DO when visiting MumbaiWe had the pleasure of Mukesh on the Bombay by Dawn tour. We can totally recommend taking this tour in the morning, one of our absolute best experiences in Mumbai being a part of the city waking up. Mukesh was good at English, very open, elaborating and shared much about the culture and the local life that went beyond the basic information. He knew so many of the locals and made sure we felt safe the entire time. Just amazing, don’t even think twice about booking this tour. Took many photos but only added a few here. After this tour we decided to book an additional tour with the company and Mukesh to visit Dharavi (“the slum”). Also a huge recommendation to visit there with Mukesh.
- D9859LAryans00Elephant Caves Tour Rocks!Awesome trip! Guides were very knowledgeable about the history and getting us around the area. Would highly recommend for a day trip.

We recently experienced a day’s private tour around Mumbai. Our tour guide Anthony was excellent. He tailored the day to our requirements, interests and timings. It was apparent from our day that the residents of Mumbai are very hard working and entrepreneurial. We were made to feel most welcome. We had a great mix of culture, architecture and history as well as some local delicacies. I would definitely recommend, such an interesting day.

1) was a great experience to the Slums ( you can have this as a 5 hour tour without the slums, but would be a big miss)
2) takes longer than 6 hours ( especially with the driving)
3) laundry place, Ghandi’s house, Gateway to India , Gardens.... etc...
4) Slums: not very clean and difficult trip. (But has to be seen)
5) Slums were Safe! (Relatively if course...We never thought there was any danger..)
6) 4-5$ made in a 12 hour work day! And people were positive. ( we had 2 friends and a 15 year old and it was an experience for all of us, especially fir the teenager)
7) car pickup from the hotel, 5 additional people can fit ( we were 4) nit a big car, but was air conditioned etc.
8) we had another trip to the elephants islands scheduled the next day and we couldn’t go, and the owner was very nuce and reimbursed the money ( it was less than the 24 hour cancellation period)
9) not an easy trip, but a must....Strongly recommended!

Our brilliant tour guide Dev grew up in a slum. He was extremely knowledgeable and articulate answering all our questions about life in Mumbai. The atmosphere in the slum was one of hard work, community and family. An example to us all.

I arranged this tour in advance of our cruise through Shailesh (shailesh@mysticalmumbai.com) He was absolutely wonderful to work with, answering all of my emails promptly and corresponding with me via many emails to make everything perfect and include all of the sites we wanted to see. On Monday, May 6, 2019, when our cruise ship docked, we met our tour guide, Dev at the port. He was amazing—very energetic, knowledgeable, and extremely passionate about his job. He also spoke perfect English. Dev told us that this company, Mystical Mumbai Tours, was founded by a man who had lived in the Dharavi Slums and all of the tour guides that he hired had also lived there, so they were sharing their lives with us through this tour. We felt so privileged to have a tour given by a local who had so much passion for Mumbai in general and for the Dharavi slums in particular. On the way to Dharavi, he gave us lots of history + social and economic background on Mumbai. As he led us through the alleyways of the slum, he pointed out that the real poor of Mumbai live on the streets, rather than in the slum. There are 10,000 industries operating within Dharavi. One slum business recycles 88% of all the plastic in Mumbai and the slums rank #2 in India for leather production. It was amazing to see the variety of businesses there—from luggage construction, to food preparation, to bakeries (who supply most of Mumbai), to clothing and leather-goods manufacturing, to barber shops, and much more. Dev emphasized the “community” that exists here, despite the difficult conditions. We caught glimpses of families in one-room houses as we passed, and children came to greet us—fascinated by the “Westerners.” The farther into the slum we got, the narrower the alleyways and the more dwellings were packed into the tiny spaces. Dev pointed out the shortage of toilets—1200 people must share one common facility. We finally came out of the maze onto a playground/sport field and saw children playing. We visited a leather goods shop that makes bags for many name designers, where I was able to purchase a bag. We were amazed by the dichotomy of slum life vs business life here. As we left the slum, we passed the river which was totally polluted with trash, and found the local market street with shops, food stalls, and goats wandering along. Our amazing driver, navigating the unbelievable traffic, managed to pick us up on the corner so we could continue our adventure. The air-conditioning in the car felt fantastic! Next stop—Dhobi Ghat—the incredible outdoor laundry where 3000 workers do 200,000 pieces of laundry each day. Dev also told us about the Dabbawalas who provide a delivery network between family homes (where the lunches are prepared) and offices (where family members consume the lunches). Our tour continued with the beautiful scenery of the Hanging Gardens above the city and then the home of Mahatma Ghandi, which we toured. Next was the famous Gateway of India and then the Sasoon Fishing Dock (where we saw women sitting on the floor sorting shrimp into baskets, while cats and birds feasted on the leftovers, and children played). Finally, we stopped in front of the famous Victoria Train Station (Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal) to take pictures of this architectural marvel, before Dev and the driver returned us to the port. We couldn’t believe that we were able to see so much—and to learn so much about Mumbai and its people--in such a short time. This was, truly, one of the best tours we’ve had anywhere in the world. Thanks to Dev, to our driver, and to Shailesh for making our day in Mumbai one we will never forget!

Definitely the part that we enjoyed the most was seeing the Dharavi.
Not only to see the neighborhood, also the people in there was so nice.
We got to play with some kids and it was fantastic.
The organization was perfect and the guide was very friendly.

The tour provides a very good overview over the main to tourist attractions of Mumbai (among others including Gateway of India, Vicoria terminus, Dobi Ghat, Hanging Gardens and one of Mahatma Gandhis former homes). Depending on the overall traffic situation, stays at some of the sites can be rather short or limited to just driving by. If you want to explore more, you should come back on your own afterwards.
After being picked up at our hotel by a driver, the tour started with a very insightful visit to Dharavi slum. Our guide Nikesh, who is a local there and did a great job, showed us examples of the local economy (including recycling factories and leather production facilities).

My partner and I were picked up from our hotel by our guide, Raj, and the driver, Mukesh. We wanted to see the Dharavi slum and the city tour. We decided to cut out some of the places we would definitely see later in the week. Over the course of about 41/2 hours (which was all we decided we could manage) Raj and Mukesh managed to fit in a very comprehensive overview of this incredible city - the noise and color and smells - such a rich experience.

Hi there. Can you tell me please, is the quoted price in US dollars? Also, if there are five of us wanting to do private slums tour by private car - can one person make the booking and then get the others to join this same car. We are on a cruise and there is one couple from NZ, one couple from Australia and a lady from USA. Thankyou.
