- Testear0 contributionsUnique experience10/10 - highly recommend. This is a unique experience you will have in India. I've joined a slum tour in Mumbai before, but this one was unique as it focused on the artists. The tour guide was also open to spontaneous joiners that I met at my hostel. He knew a lot of people in the colony, so we felt very safe.Written 27 September 2024

- laurens1590 contributions10/10 Go For ItAs a female solo traveler on a first trip to India I was especially grateful to Santan for his excellent walking tour. Old Delhi is a fascinating and wonderful place and Santan knows all the ins and outs. I felt safe and learned so much. Also the food places he recommended are delicious and I didn’t get sick as they are very clean. Highly recommend.Written 3 February 2024
- Alison B0 contributionsGreat experience!Totally recommend this tour! Street performers and entertainers were very talented people. We were invited into their homes to see them perform. Tea and snacks provided. Excellent guide with very good English. Very interesting to see how these people live. Thank you so much.Written 9 January 2024
- C2337HCbradb0 contributionsExcellent Host and GuideJohn took me on a walking tour of Old Delhi. He clearly knew many of the vendors. I had some luggage which I was able to leave with a hotel owner before we started on our journey. While I was told it was a slow period, to me Old Delhi was incredibly busy! Markets for everything, shoulder to shoulder patrons. We tasted some of the food, bought of the tea. He even arranged for us to climb to a building's roof and look out over the bussle. He's an excellent host and guide. I would have been completely lost on my own.Written 26 December 2023

The tour brings you to the heart of this street artists community, letting you meet and chat with local artists in their homes and even see them in action! Santal is a very professional guide who does a lot for the community. During the tour he shares a lot of amazing information and makes you feel super safe. Two really excellent guides Santan and Jaun took took a small group of people safely through this area, letting us learn and experience some of the daily life and hardship of the people living here.
The children that we met really made an impact on me and specially little Saheem (3 y old.)
Learning that improvement in terms of education of the children is in some progress is very uplifting to hear. Education is so very important. If I go back to delhi some day I will do this trip one more time.
Thanks!!

Santan was an outstanding guide, who was very well known to, and clearly had a great rapport with, so many of the people living in the community. He stopped to chat to lots of them and this enabled us to meet the locals in a very respectful manner; it seemed more like a casual walk than a tour and it was an unforgettable experience. There was a real sense of community and we interacted with lots of smiling, welcoming adults and so many happy children who clearly love Santan and came rushing up to us to shake our hands and ask us questions. This experience has made such a lasting impression on me and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone. Thank you Santan.

The tour was absolutely amazing and everyone was both welcoming, curious, and joyful. Getting to understand the inner workings of this community and being guided by a both knowledgable and kind hearted tour guide was something I’ll never forget. Be prepared to encounter the countless smiles of all the joyous children reminding us that happiness truly comes from within and not from material luxury and comforts. I highly recommend this tour if you’re in the Delhi area!

Like most tourists, I was a bit hesitant before taking this tour. I didn't want to seem intrusive or exploitative of this community for my own personal interest. However, the tour with Santan revealed to me a hard working and proud community living and surviving together who despite the living conditions were smiling and welcoming.
Santan, my guide, is clearly loved by this community and we stopped and met many of the families and the adorable children, full of laughter and playful.
I would not hesitate to recommend this tour if you want to experience the real side of Delhi. And Santan is the best one to show you around and make the experience memorable in so many ways.

Our guide Santan has deep knowledge of the community and is very well known among the residents.
Entering the community is an immediate jarring to the senses. At the entrance, one passes through a recycling area where all matter of waste is processed. Then we crossed over railroad tracks on a busy freight line that bisects the community. Santan told us that over 50,000 people live there with some families present for generations. Much of the community is located under a very high up freeway system, which provides protection from the rains and probably cooling in the hot summer months. The lanes were very narrow and Main Street had all the food and supplies the residence could require
The people in our sitelines were decently clothed, had positive dispositions and seem to have sufficient nutrition available. They have work opportunities supplying food for residents within the community as well as outside. There are also factories.
One of my favourite parts was purchasing a few dollars of candy and distributing it to very happy small children.
It’s a very humbling experience, looking at how this city within a city operates, and how the residents conduct themselves with such dignity.
It is an uplifting experience, and should make us all appreciative of what we have.

Nice, respectful walk through the community. The guide is well known under the locals and presents the tour like a visit of his friends. People are very curious and open so you feel quite safe. You also learn about the integration of the community into the city life and how it works economically.
However, expect very bad hygienic conditions and poor air quality for european standards. If you dont mind this, I fully recommend this tour.

I want to warmly recomend the tour!! Santan the guide was very helpful and friendly. I was impressed by the sweet children there. In the midst of the filth, they were not nagging, just happy to see people, asking us to take their pictures, sharing and helping each other. They can't afford going to school or kindergarden. The older girls are eager to learn to talk English. This is a chance to have some future. Santan is asking people to volunteer, even for one day in painting the walls of the alleys with the youth, and drawing on them nice pictures. It is so pleasureable to interact with them. Everyone we met was kind.

We easily met Santan at the agreed time and he organised a short rickshaw ride to the area we were visiting. As we entered, it was clear Santan has a lovely relationship with the people who live there and it was a chatting to the community type tour. We felt very welcomed and we were offered delicious chai and henna painting on our hand. We particularly enjoyed meeting the people of the community and to see the smiles on the kids faces were everything. It was also very sweet to talk to the children and hear their names - we took along plenty of sweets and handed them out (they particularly liked lollipops!). Note there is also lots of shops / stalls within the area that you can buy from and give out. It was good to hear from Santan how money from the tour is reinvested back into helping members of the community - he is clearly a very kind and selfless individual. Even though it was a very hot day (in the 40s) most of the areas were in the shade, so don’t let warm weather put you off. If you would like an alternative experience from the ‘tourist traps’ and are open and respectful of how other people live, I would 100% recommend.

This was really something to see, think about and reflect on. My guide, Santan, was perfect. Once at the site it was obvious his close connection to his local community would be a key feature. Every few minutes there were conversations with locals, with children, with stall operators. Fascinating and at times overwhelming as I tried to take it all in. An exceptionally strong sense of community prevails with people relaxed and friendly to each other. This is really worth the experience beyond the often startling visuals.
