About
Sunrise tour in Top Station , Munnar ( 4 - 5Hr)
Guest Review: He picked us up at 4:30 am in the pitch black and bundled us together with another couple into the back of a tiny Jeep.
We were driving into the middle of nowhere in the dead of night, along small bumpy roads, with barely enough space to move, and a canopy dropped over the sides so we couldn’t see outside. It felt like we were taking part in an illegal smuggling operation.
After 50 minutes we reached our starting point just as the sun was beginning to shed light on the dark sky.
Once we reached the summit, we enjoyed a delicious meal among the changing clouds and mist. An hour later, bellies full and feeling well rested we started our descent. On the final stretch, we walked through a few tea plantations.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 954kirstenv0 contributionsGreat hike in MunnarWe had an amazing day with Vijay, who took us on an amazing hike through the stunning tea fields in Munnar and the Mountains near old Munnar. We also spotted three wild bisons and many wild fruits and plants! Thanks a lot Vijay!Written 9 February 2025
- aureliac20170 contributionswild elephants in Munmarwe had a great tour, our guide Surya was very kind and knowledgeable and patient and with a very nice energy . and best of the tour we saw the elephants, it’s pretty much garanteed they come to drink at that spot on the afternoon and you can see them very close . So much better that supporting parks around where you ride elephants that don’t look very happy .Written 9 February 2025
- 954kirstenv0 contributionsA wonderful day in MunnarWe had a great day while joining the tea plantation/tea factory tour. Mari was an enthousiastic guide, who told us about all aspects of the tea business. Thanks a lot!Written 9 February 2025
- Balmaintraveller0 contributionsExcellent hike with knowledgeable and friendly guide. I highly recommend it.Our guide, King, was brilliant. He lives in a local village and he, his family and friends work or have worked in the tea industry. He was very knowledgeable and interesting about the tea and all the other plants and their uses. He was a very safe and helpful guide when we got to the higher parts of the hike and his wife had cooked the best samosas we had ever eaten. Eating them at 2000m while gazing down at the valley below was amazing.Written 8 February 2025
- Vacation208417988740 contributionsLovely guided Walk in Beautiful Teafields. We very much enjoyed our trek in the teafields. It is so picturesque and beautiful. Our guide was very knowledgeable (5th generation tea family) and also kind. He gave us some lovely tea and biscuits within the walk which was well needed as the walk is a bit more taxing than you might imagine. I really don't think it's worth walking the teafields without a guide, you would miss all the history and different values of the teas and plants. It's very much worth going. Thank you.Written 7 February 2025
- GoPlaces426074681080 contributionsRecommend this sunset hike!!Our guide, Mr. Raja was so kind and knowledgeable. He explained everything from start to finish- how tea leaves are picked and processed, how the tea fields are managed, and also pointed out different types of other plants on our hike. To top it off, he took us to a private sunset photo spot (no crowds at all) and brought us some hot tea to finish off the tour. Such an amazing experience- would highly recommend Mr. Raja aka Mr. King.Written 7 February 2025
- Nomad434657945510 contributionsA Full Day of FunOur experience with this tour was excellent! We were in very capable hands with our guide, Suresh, who was highly knowledgeable and happily entertained our many questions. The day provided a great variety of activities and a good balance of active and rest time. Suresh capably drove us through winding hills, leading us to many lookout points, each more beautiful than the next. While we were not lucky enough to see any elephants, we easily passed the time chatting with the many other groups who gathered to wait, and were not disappointed that we had made the effort. For a full day of fun and engaging experiences, don’t hesitate to book this tour!Written 5 February 2025
- elisecK3460HR0 contributionsTime for tea!We loved our tea trail tour! The views were incredible, and our tour guide Mari was so friendly and knowledgeable about the tea plants and the whole process of tea picking and production. The hike was at an easy pace with great views at every turn. We learned so much about tea plants as well as many traditional and medicinal uses of plants that grow throughout the tea plantation, and all around Kerala. The tour of the tea factory was also fascinating, and we had the opportunity to purchase tea from the factory (at a great price too), which I am excited to bring home to share with friends and family as a great souvenir and gift. I highly recommend this tour and hike!Written 5 February 2025

- Nomad434657945510 contributionsAll-around Excellent! We had an absolutely delightful experience on our Tea Trail Tour! The experience included a walk through the stunningly beautiful Lockhart Tea Estate, a short tea break, a tour through the Lockhart Tea Factory, and a brief tea tasting followed by an opportunity to purchase tea. Our guide, Marimuthu, was excellent. He was so knowledgeable about every aspect of tea production, from the history of tea planting in India, to the plants, to the final tasting, and so much more. We very much enjoyed the walk through the estate, though it should be noted that it may be a bit difficult at times for some, with some (briefly) steep climbs/descents, uneven terrain, and loose gravel. It should also be noted that we did have to provide our own transportation from the estate to the factory, which was not immediately clear. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience for your visit to the Munnar area!Written 5 February 2025
- natalii930 contributionsExcellent safari experience with elephants watchingBeautiful jeep safari from Munnar to Anakulam. Very nice tea and coffee plantations all around. Our guide Siva was so nice and willing to explain and show us everything. Fortunately, we were lucky and saw three elephants! A huge traditional and very tasty Kerala lunch at a hotel restaurant (Misty Garden Resort) was also included. Overall a very nice experience, worth trying when you visit Munnar!Written 5 February 2025
- N8297YUemmab0 contributionsGreat Lockhart Tea Plantation TourWe had a fantastic Lockhart Tea Plantation tour today. The guide was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. We particularly liked the walk around the tea plantation and getting away from the other tourists which made it very tranquil. Would highly recommend this tour.Written 5 February 2025
- Alice H0 contributions10/10 morning with Mari! This was such an amazing experience! Our guide Mari was very knowledgable and showed us all around a tea plantation and the Lockhart tea factory. He was fantastic and also recommended a great place for us to have lunch after! Our time with Mari was definitely the highlight of our trip so far and we would highly recommend it.Written 5 February 2025

We recently experienced the Munnar half-day sunrise tour, and it exceeded all expectations! The highlight of the tour was the invigorating hike to Top Station, starting at 4:30 am. Witnessing the sunrise from this vantage point was absolutely breathtaking, creating unforgettable memories.
The tour also included visits to Mattupetty and Kundala Dam, along with Echo Point, showcasing the beauty of Munnar. Our tour guide was exceptional – not only did he lead us through the stunning landscapes, but he also doubled as a skilled photographer. His assistance in capturing excellent photographs, reminiscent of a pre-wedding shoot, added a special touch to the experience.
What stood out was the guide, Mr. Suresh's professionalism – always polite and punctual. The seamless organization of the tour, combined with the guide's expertise, made this adventure truly memorable. Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to explore the beauty of Munnar with a touch of sunrise magic!

We took the sunrise tour and were promptly picked up by Mani at 4:30am and taken to Top Point where we left the car behind and trekked to a spot where the views of the sun rising were out of this world. When I look at my pictures, even I can’t believe they are real! Mani was an excellent driver and guide, pointing out animals on the way and back and full of information about Munnar. Truly a memorable experience!! The walk back through the plantations was beautiful and Mani took so many great photos for us to remember this special experience.

Well worth waking up to do! The weather was awful and debated whether to go in the rain, but Sunesh was a terrific driver on some harrowing, foggy roads. Got to Top Station and couldn’t see a thing! But it was an adventure, and on the way down, skies cleared and the lush, verdant greenery that Munnar is known for revealed itself. I’m glad I went and highly recommend doing it early when it is quieter and calmer and less bustling.

The sunrise at the end is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking, but overall, this tour felt extremely overpriced for what it offered—essentially just transportation and guided walk to the viewpoint.
There was no water provided, which was disappointing. As a solo traveler, I also found the guide to be quite distant, so this experience might be better suited for couples or groups.
The hike up takes about 30 minutes, and it’s in completely darkness.. The only light came from the guide’s phone, which felt quite unprofessional—having a proper torch would have made a big difference. Because of the poor lighting, I accidentally stepped into a huge muddy puddle, soaking my trainers and leggings. Near the top, the trail became very slippery, and I actually hurt my ankle at one point.
Additionally, no one prior warned me about how cold it would be. It was freezing, and on the drive back, the car doors were left open, making it even worse—I was literally shivering the entire way.
I’d also recommend bringing your own breakfast, as I was starving by the time I got back to the hotel.
While the view at the top was stunning, the overall experience didn’t match the price I paid. I left feeling a bit disappointed.

If you love nature DO NOT take this tour!
The Top Station can only be reached on jeeps + some walking, all on an unpaved road that climbs up through the beautiful tea plantations to reach a mountain top terrace with amazing views. So, why is this terrible?
You can expect over 300 cars each morning fighting with each other to get up there first, carrying over 2500 people, plenty of whom will play loud disco music at 2000m above sea level whilst waiting for sunrise. If you like the idea of an hyper crowded, polluted, extra noisy, mountain sunrise experience then this is “great”…
But if you were expecting a soothing natural experience amidst beautiful tropical forests, then simply do not go!!!!!
You will be stuck in a never ending trail of rattling jeeps packed with wobbling passengers, happily breathing diesel exhausts all the way up for over 40 minutes: same story on the way down. If you attempt a walk, you will soon be squashed in between horning jeeps, breathing even more exhausts.
This is not to speak about the vast amount of garbage and plastic bottles thrown in nature by uncivilised tourists in what is meant to be a plastic free natural zone.
It is a really sad experience that shows complete lack of care and respect for a wonderful natural landscape.
What about building a more civilised cable car to take up the “herds”?

Mr. Suresh picked me up from the hotel in Munnar at 04:30 in the morning, then we drove directly towards Top Station. There started the approx. 30 minute hike through tea plantations and hidden paths to a hidden viewpoint with amazing panoramic views over the valley. Unfortunately, the weather was not so great and it was quite hazy, so that the sunrise was not quite as spectacular as it might have been. Nevertheless, it was a very nice hike.

Yesterday, my friend and I were looking at seeing the sunrise from a high trekking point in Munnar. Manoj (Munnar Info) was recommended to me, we chose to go for the Lakshmi Hills sunrise trek with his jeep tour guide, Suresh. Amazing experience!! We woke up between 4 and 5am, saw amazing landscapes, went through a very cute tea plantation resort who offered us tea. Then went down with the jeep through tea fields. It is accessible to everyone and yet very scenic!
Manoj then offered breakfast at his cottage and helped us plan our way further to Thekkady/Kumily with his uncle.
Highly recommend!

The best part about a trip is the people and experiences that you carry with you as memories , the half day sightseeing tour to watch sunrise at top station was one such trip. I went on a recent trip on 10th March’21 , Manoj the proprietor did the booking hassle free, arranged his best driver and guide for us. To reach the sunrise point requires a 25 min trek through unexplored places and is adventure and fun for any nature loving person. Many thanks to Manoj and his driver Suresh for a wonderful trip , full of memories. Highly recommended trip in Munnar.

The guide picked us up on time and we drove about 40 minutes before we walked the remaining way to the top. The hiking trough the nature was very adventurous and we got to see a few wild animals. The view from the top was breathtaking and our Guide Suresh took amazing pictures of us troughout the trip. On the way back we got to see a lot of the tea plantations and some beautiful sightseeing spots. A trip that was definetly worth it.
