Marcelo was amazing. Not only did he arrange all the tickets, drove us everywhere and arranged a wonderful lunch, he picked us up at the cruise port with all our luggage, dropped us at the hotel to store it (a huge help for no extra charge!!) and then started the tour. He is very nice, knowledgable and cares about his clients, he doesn't make you feel like he has done this tour 100 times before. He has fun doing it, like it his first one. If you have gay questions he has answers about clubs, places to meet etc etc. We spent about 8 hours with him and saw so much. If we would have done this by ourselves, it would have taken us 3-4 days. Best tour guide we ever had, and we do get around!

I had an amazing day with Marcelo and would recommend him highly. He's smart, knowledgeable, and very organized. There are certain things that are difficult for a solo traveller to see/experience without a vehicle and somebody who knows what they're doing. Marcelo makes all that happen. I have wanted to visit Sitio Burle Marx for years, but couldn't make it happen. This time, I was determined, and so I hired Marcelo for the day. He picked me up at my place in Copacabana and drove us there. He had booked the guided tour (in English) in advance. The place is beautiful, and their guide, Mateus, was very knowledgeable and helpful. The tours are 1.5 hr and they are pretty tightly controlled (to prevent tourists from damaging fragile plant and such). I would have liked to spend more time with parts of it, but that wasn't something Marcelo could control. From there, we went to Restaurante Point de Grumari for lunch. It offers great food and a spectacular view of Restinga da Marambaia. From there we went to Praia do Grumari, and walked along to Praia de Abricó (the mostly-gay, clothing optional beach), where we spent the afternoon. On the way home, we stopped for dinner in Barra da Tijuca. It would have been difficult for me to even find these places on my own, much less get to them. Marcelo made the whole thing easy and enjoyable.

Marcelo‘s Night Life Tour of Rio was amazing! He took us place we have never been before nor could have experienced without his guidance. Doing a tour with Marcelo was the best choice I made on my trip to Rio. It was the perfect way to get to know the city as Marcelo was so knowledgable and personable. it was only me on the tour and there was not one awkward moment as Marcelo kept the conversation lively with fun facts about the city and sharing stories of his own personal travel. He also has his own car so it made going from location to location super easy and it was nice not to have to wait for a driver. Any question I had - Marcelo was able to answer and was honest and open about everything. Additionally, I had lost my phone the previous day and Marcelo was kind enough to take some extra time and go to the mall and help me purchase a new one. I can't wait to come back to Rio to do another tour with Marcelo. Do yourself a favor and book a tour, you won't regret it!

Traveling alone on a last-minute, hastily planned trip in a city where everyone warns you, 'YOU NEED TO BE CAREFUL,' can seem daunting. My time in Rio was incredible and not the least bit scary, thanks to Marcelo. Marcelo showed me the best of Rio, its beauty and culture, and also helped me understand the challenges and dangers. Besides his well-researched understanding of Rio's gay life (I did both the beach and nightlife tours), Marcelo is also extremely knowledgeable about Rio from a historical and cultural perspective. Marcelo promptly picked me up every morning (or night), and we had perfectly planned days and unforgettable experiences. Being with Marcelo is like being with a learned, fun, dear friend. He is so easy to talk to (in English) and was flexible when I needed to make schedule changes. He allowed me to bring a new friend along without charging extra, even though I offered. I would definitely suggest listening to his restaurant recommendations -- they were some of my favorite meals. I really can't say enough great things. He made my trip, and I would have been miserable on a bus tour.

The best decision I made for my first day in Rio was have Marcelo as my guide. His English is perfect and his knowledgeable details of the places we visited added so much texture to the rest of my trip. He’s such an amiable guy. Marcelo was a fantastic guide to gay nightlife in Rio - especially because it was our first night in town for Carnaval. We’ve been to Rio a few times already, but the tour was still worth every penny. He gave us great knowledge about bars, clubs, saunas, and Carnaval parties - the kind only a local can offer. He was friendly and gracious too. He met us across the street from our AirBnB in Ipanema and led us on a Saturday night adventure around the city to LGBTQ+ clubs we hadn’t read about in US guidebooks. We had dinner together at a restaurant along the Escaderia Seladon. Then he walked us through the wildness of a weekend night in Lapa during Carnaval, pointing out great samba houses as well as interesting architecture. We ventured to two clubs - one we’d wandered past before and hadn’t even realized was a gay club; the second, on the waterfront in Botafogo, had amazing views of the harbor. The men on the dance floor were equally gostoso. I’d do a tour with him again in a heartbeat.
