About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- SandyGrim0 contributionsSalvador — a dance party afloat.Actually, the night before our trip we got an email saying that the trip to Ilha dos Frades only was canceled and we could switch to the Frades/Itaparica tour for the same price, which we did. It was an entertaining and excellent experience. There are several boat companies that run the same tour though you cannot tell from TripAdvisor who you are booking with. Our boat was run by Apolonio. The Marina embarkation point is slightly chaotic and we had to wait around for quite a bit not knowing when our boat would leave. There were three guides, all of whom spoke good English, though of the 80+ passengers there were, as far as we could tell only 6 non-Brazilians. The best part of the experience was the boat trip itself. Those Brazilians really know how the party and the on-deck bar which opened t 9:00 AM did a roaring trade in caipirinhas made with many varieties of fresh fruit. The chief guide was an amazing dancer and had the entire company dancing and singing along to Brazilian carneval music — everyone seemed to know all the words to dozens of songs. After about 1 hour 40 minutes sailing, singing, drinking, and dancing we reached our first destination. The Ilha dos Frades is a lovely, well maintained and protected island. Everyone headed for the beach, but the chapel on the hill, and the little village were also well worth visiting. The sea was calm and warm and well worth a dip. We spent a relaxing 2 hours before heading back to the boat for the 40 minutes trip to Itaparica. This was our lunch destination. The restaurant (Restaurante Manguezal) had no dock, and we went from our boat to the beach on some sketchy looking motor boats with about 20 passengers each. You needed to jump off the big boat into the little boat, then wade ashore from the little boat to the restaurant, where there was a massive all-you-can-eat buffet for 75 reales. We did not indulge, but pretty much everyone else did. There was certainly plenty of choice of Brazilian, Bahaian, and international type food. We went through the restaurant into the village, which was pretty scruffy and rundown - not worth visiting. After 2 hours of eating and drinking, it was back on the (overcrowded) motorboats and then clambering up onto the “Schooner” for the 1.5 hour trip back to Salvador. The dancing guide worked had to get everyone moving again, but most people were exhausted. Overall this whole trip was a blast and a real insight into happy, indulgent, music obsessed Brazilian party life. The islands themselves are nice stopping points, but the boat trip itself is the major draw.Written 18 March 2025
- Happiness2498460 contributionsGreat value, beautiful islands and views, amazing staff. The staff, the views, the islands, and the service were all amazing. The group playing live music makes the boat ride super fun and engaging. My only downside was the amount of people on the boat and yet that’s also part of what made it fun. Plus, despite the amount of people, the staff handled everything very well and in an organized manner. There’s lots of domestic tourism here so be ready to jam out to Brasilian songs with locals. I’d definitely do it again! My gf and I spent ~$120 USD TOTAL for 2 ppl!!! Boat ride. Port fee. Protected island fee. Food. Drinks. And drone shots. If that’s not an amazing deal, then I don’t know what is.Written 11 March 2025
- K4944DHdavidb0 contributionsConsider Taking Public Ferry To Larger IslandThe trip overall was pretty good and as expected. They pass out a drink with the unused fruit. They don't tell you there is a charge but they do. The first island is very exposed and hot. You can pay R30 to get a tent. The money is based on food or drink orders. People on the boat enjoyed the live music and dancing. The first island for me is not as nice as the second one. If I knew, I would take the public ferry on my own and enjoy that island which is closer to Salvador.Written 1 February 2025

- suely m0 contributionsTerrible food and bad for elderly peopleYou have to go to a transfer boat which leaves you inside the water. They force a restaurant on us, horrible food. Everything has an added price. They make you take another boat to transport us to the “restaurant”, nothing else to do there unless you pay extra for a tour of the city. Better to stay at the beach in Salvador and use their restaurants!Written 19 December 2024
- Katrin M0 contributionsOKishWe booked an English speaking tour but almost all explanation were in Portuguese only. We reminded the guide more than once to please speak English with us, however his English speaking skills had room for improvement. If you pay the taxes and the island entrance fee (total 45R$ p.p.) with card, you have to pay 55R$ (so better to bring cash). The boat takes you to a private beach with three restaurants. We were asked immediately after the arrival to place an order for the overpriced food (e.g. 40R$ for a portion of fries). In return, the umbrella on the beach is for free. The beach is very nice und the crew asked several times of everything was okay ("todo bem?") so we appreciated the effort but all in all this tour is not worth the price.Written 15 November 2024
- G7230QEjosephp0 contributionsnot a great day outthe good : nice beaches and the boat was a good vibe the not so good : the operators at the beginning didn't accept the ticket i bought online and forced me to buy another on entry the "guide" changed his stance on whether he spoke english or not multiple times, apparently only speaking it when it involved me paying for something was ignored by staff multiple times when they did the rounds for fruit / drinks don't bother with this trip unless you're brazilian or plan on going with one.Written 22 October 2024
- Resa020 contributionsFun but not in EnglishThe views were gorgeous and the boat trip had a great vibe, the buffet was tasty too. However, we were told our tour guide for the boat and the city tour would speak English, when in fact, they did not. So I would not recommend to English language only customers.Written 17 September 2024
- dorak2520 contributionsGood trip to cost two islands! Our day started cloudy and with rain! Almost everyone on board wired swimsuits and coverup or board shorts but the rain coming into side of boats was a bit of a nuisance even though they had plastic tarps brought down to help guests not get wet, rains drain onto seats. There was a group of Brazilian musicians on board which made the trip delightful but beware they are independent band that expect “donations” of at least R$25 and we didn’t have any cash /reais with us and offered R$5 ready which is nothing but they rejected that, maybe they got offended but we didn’t gave PIX which is similar to Venmo in the states! Oh well 🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🥱 Once we arrive at first stop island called “Ilha dos Frades” Nice calm beach with clear warm water to bath in. The ocean water was very shallow and allowed us to go far into ocean which was cool. For worn all there will be local vendors selling drinks and if you’re an American with dollars every item is pretty inexpensive. In fact everything in Brazil is very inexpensive and your dollars go along way! We left that island to Itaparica island to have lunch. It cost us $15/pp (R$75/pp) and lunch although visually looked good it was not tasty. Bahia is known for their fish dishes but unfortunately at this location the fish had bones and smelled fishy could not eat it. Ended up sticking with chicken stroganoff with white rice was good; beef was so tough, and beans were good but that it. I hate that we were forced to go there instead of another place.Written 15 June 2024
- neiltA709UY0 contributionsGreat experience on the Bay and 2 Island stopsThe schooner left from the Terminal Náutico da Bahia, where it was necessary to pay a tax of R$25. The first stop on Ilha dos Frades (at Ponta de Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe) required payment of an "access fee" of R$25. The trip information advised of the second fee, but not the first. The beach at Ponta de Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe is really lovely. There is a proper dock for easy disembarking and re-boarding. The second stop, on Ilha de Itaparica, required passengers to transfer from the schooner to small boats, and then to wade ashore through very shallow (and very warm) water. We had lunch at that stop. The schooner trip on Baía de Todos os Santos (All Saints Bay) was relaxing and the views really grand. A wonderful experience!Written 20 March 2024

- 883chazm0 contributionsAn amazing cruise near spectacular Salvador!Wow! I rarely write reviews, but must rave about this incredible cruise to two amazing islands near Salvador Brazil: Islã dos frades and Itaparica. The boat is lovely, staffed by a smiling, courteous team who make amazing drinks with fresh fruit while playing Brazilian music on drums and tamborine. Islã dos frades has crystalline water and Itaparica is a lovely place to stop for lunch and enjoy local history. The tour agency was great, and have us all the information we needed, along with a reminder about check-in the night before. Our kids loved the entire day as much as we did. We would highly highly recommend this cruise to anyone looking for an amazing day in Brazil.Written 11 October 2023
- ajkane20220 contributionsFantastic all day trip I would recommendThis is a great all day experience that gives a different view of Salvador and islands in the bay. We were picked up from our hotel looked after all day and then left back to the hotel at the end. The islands are beautiful and very interesting but best of all was the really fun atmosphere on the boat. We had only been in Brazil for 2 days and we left the boat having made lots of new Brazilian friends. Food and drinks are great too. The tour is very well organised by the leader Isaco Costa who is a great English speaker and took us under his wing - even giving us introductions to guides for the following stages of our holiday. I would thoroughly recommend this trip and this company.Written 29 August 2023
- J5634YOgabrielles0 contributionsPoor Communication Steals the DayUnfortunately choosing this tour was a disaster, even if Ilha dos Frades is a beautiful place. I tried repeatedly to book several days in advance via TripAdvisor, but I was rejected for lack of a Brazilian CPF. I ultimately was able to book directly on De Boa’s website the night before, but I missed the fine print that reservations must be made 12 hours in advance (I was 10.5 hours in advance). I don’t understand why the website let the booking (and my payment) go through if this is the policy. I tried to confirm directly with the tour company in the morning, but I didn’t receive a response for over two hours, by which time the boat was already boarding. The guide then told us, as we were getting on the boat, that our trip was cancelled due to “bad weather,” and that we were taking a different route instead. Rather than five hours at Ilha dos Frades, we would have only two. We were not offered a refund as is claimed in the description. At midday we were able to negotiate with the guide (who had disappeared as soon as we arrived at the island), who said we could stay later and take another boat back. Unfortunately, returning to the boat terminal, waiting in line, and negotiating with him ate up an hour of our day, and ultimately the boat we took to return was smaller and not so seaworthy. Many people were having panic attacks and all the passengers were soaked as we ran into the “bad weather” for which our tour had supposedly been canceled in the first place and for which we were not offered reimbursement. When I contacted De Boa again that night, the owner told me “thankfully everything worked out.” I disagree. All of this could have been avoided with better communication—I would have happily accepted a refund if he had answered my communication in the morning and told me that he could not honor the reservation because I had made it too late and because the travel would be unsafe. Rather than book with De Boa or a similar company, we recommend taking the brief ferry from Madre de Deus to the other side of Ilha dos Frades. Business owners on the island informed us that De Boa and other tour companies do what I described all the time.Written 22 April 2023
- 200hisham_20140 contributionsCould have been done alone, overpricedI honestly don’t understand what we paid for with this booking. on top of the booking fee, we paid for the return boat fare, fee to enter the island, a tax, a very expensive lunch, all drinks on the boat and tip for the music. It could have been done alone. The boat was so slow too, the three hour journey back was unbearable.Written 15 February 2023

Guarajuba Beach has a pleasant climate, lunch at the Carlinhos restaurant is very tasty and reasonably priced.
Visiting the Tamar Project on Praia do Forte was a very interesting part of the visit. Being able to learn a little more about their work and marine animals was fantastic!

Very nice visit to two beautiful places. Thiago was perfect, welcoming, calm, interesting explanations but not too much. It’s obviously a somewhat touristy visit, the minibus stops at 4/5 hotels, which ultimately leaves little time on site. For Guarajuba, don't rush to the restaurant table if there are too many people, otherwise you will hardly enjoy the beach. Nibble on an acajara on the beach.

The experience was great. The hotel pickup was very convenient and both the driver and the guide Thiago were very nice, friendly and respectful and with great content on the history and location.
The morning time at Praia do forte was a bit rushed (I decided to do both snorkeling and Tamar project), but if only one is chosen then it would have been more relaxed.
The snorkeling activity was okay, not entirely happy with the pictures I was sent and they should perhaps organise it better because other people on the way kept scaring all the fish when I was had my pictures taken.
The Tamar project was very nice with a 40 min guided tour.
Praia de Guarajuba was beautiful and we spend there about 3h. The facilities were very nice and pleasant too (see pictures added).

First, the positive: Our tour guide Fito was fantastic – friendly, humorous, and always trying to make the day more enjoyable. Unfortunately, that was the only memorable highlight of this tour.
The biggest issue: The tour description gives the impression of a relaxing bus trip where you get to discover authentic Brazil. In reality, you’re simply shuttled from one tourist trap to the next.
The supposedly relaxing ride along the “Coconut Road” to Praia do Forte turned into a two-hour tour of Salvador to pick up other passengers, followed by an additional 1.5-hour drive to the actual destination. That’s 3.5 hours of travel one way – and if you do the math, you’ll realize that the same route must be taken back. In total, that means 7 hours on the bus for just 5 hours at the ddstinations. Of this lenghty route, nothing is mentioned in tje description. But hey, i ordered a bustrip and I got one I guess...
At the first destination, Praia do Forte, we expected a charming Fisherman’s Village - as described. Instead, we found a tourist strip full of overpriced restaurants, souvenir shops, and pushy promoters. Another major downside: no one at the location spoke English – unacceptable for a place so heavily focused on tourism.
Even more disappointing were the activities offered during the bus ride by our tour guide. Believing these were organized highlights of our booked tour, we opted for the snorkeling activity and the TAMAR sea turtle project. While the TAMAR project was fine and seemed legitimate, the “snorkeling” experience was a complete joke. It involved sitting in 20 cm of shallow water with a snorkel mask, watching a few fish swim by – something that can hardly be called snorkeling. In hindsight, it became clear that these activities were overpriced promoter offerings that no one would normally consider, had they not been sold on the bus by our tour guide himself.
The second stop in Guarajuba was equally disappointing. Although the beach was beautiful, the two-hour stay was far too short to enjoy it properly. The “excellent seaside restaurant” turned out to be a basic tourist joint with plastic chairs, bright neon decorations, and once again, no English-speaking staff. To top it off, three people in our group later suffered from stomach issues – while we can’t say for sure if it was due to the food, there’s reason to suspect it.
Conclusion: This tour promises an authentic experience but delivers nothing more than a typical mass tourism shuttle with overpriced, misleading add-ons. Language barriers, poor logistical organization, and the stark contrast between the advertised description and the actual experience made this tour a major disappointment. If you’re looking to discover the real Brazil, this tour isn’t for you. The only saving grace: our wonderful guide Fito.

Regarding the destination, Praia do Forte is a fishing village, yes, but with the growth of tourism, shops, restaurants and inns have also arrived, which changes the scenery, but it does not stray from its origins.
The Estrada do Coco is a well-signposted road with impeccable asphalt, so the trip is good.
Regarding the activity offered, we investigated and concluded that our guide was offering snorkeling in the wrong way. This activity is not offered by our agency. Local guides stay in the village asking our guides to help sell it. We prohibit this practice in our cars. The only optional activity we offer is entry to the TAMAR Project, a way we found so that our clients do not waste time in line to buy tickets and can enjoy the visit to the project and the village, which is beautiful. As for the travel time, I think it is a great exaggeration, but I agree that it took longer in the car because your hotel was on the opposite side of the destination and it took longer to return. We apologize for the inconvenience and will work to better offer our services.

Unfortunately, I have to say that the description of the tour and the reality are only remotely related. In addition, there are organizational deficiencies and inconveniences that cannot be foreseen by the description of the organizer.
Without a doubt, the tour is suitable for people who would like to spend most of the day in the refrigerated bus. Because the journey alone was 3.5 hours long for everyone who was picked up first. Just collecting the fellow passengers occupied a large part of the time. We started at 7am and reached our destination at 10:30am.
The tour guide made the journey with humor more bearable, but we were let down right at our first stop. Instead of being taken to the described “old fishing village”, we were taken to a reception camp for stranded tourists. Overpriced stores are lined up close together. Those who did not want to miss the “snorkeling experience” were separated from the rest of the group and driven to a beach where half-heartedly disinfected diving goggles await. The experience finally took place on a crowded stretch of beach in knee-high water. Photos are hastily taken in a mass handling with the participants and the extra attracted fish - A classic tourist rip-off. After that we were left to our own devices. There are no proper changing rooms and the only shower available we found on request at the other end of the facility.
The turtle project is also in the midst of this touist spectacle. Unfortunately, we didn't get a guided tour in English - instead we were allowed to look at turtles in pool facilities that were far too small for my feeling. An hour and a half later, we were taken to the next Touist program in 30 minutes. Lunch in a “special restaurant”. The restaurant was by no means bad, but a classic Brazilian restaurant, which does not justify such a long journey. However, the prices are noticeably adapted to tourists and, in contrast to the quality of the offer, are above average. I have to note that this was the first opportunity to eat something that day.
There was not too much time left for the beach before we went back the 3.5 hours after a 2h stay - this time with a silent guide.
All in all, I would not repeat the day and would not recommend it to anyone. It's a shame ...

Transportation that seemed like it was going to dismantle. Since the guide sold the tickets to enter Tamara, we had to be there at 11 a.m. and the guided tour began at 11:30. We lost 45 minutes, which is a lot for the tour. Attentive guide

Praia do Forte is an increasingly prepared destination to welcome the tourist. Beautiful landscape, Tamar Project and so many other activities to do. The guide Tiago was fantastic and very attentive with us and with the whole group. The tour says to be accessible and my daughter did it with wheelchairs without problems and we were well assisted by the guide and driver.

This is a very nice tour, taking you away from busy Salvador. Perfect to discover the other side of the Bahia.
It was a perfect day, very well organised.
I was picked up at the exact time I was given, the bus was comfortable and the guide, Tiago, was great. Not only he can speak English (and Spanish) but he actually did make the effort to explain everything in English ☺️ he was extremely helpful ☺️
The 2 stops are great and well timed. I loved Praia de Forte with the turtles sanctuary and fabulous shopping. The beach is amazing. I had a great time in Guarajuba, going away from the busy area with the restaurants. I do recommend to have lunch there. The food looked awesome, even if i didn’t (I prefered the beach 🏖️ to the food)
Thank you for the special drop off, which made it possible for me make and enjoy the tour.

The tour was great and our guide Ariel super unrivalled and attentive. On the beach of the Forte we did snorkel and went to the Tamar project that are not included, but super recommend the two activities. The beach is beautiful!!! On the beach Guarajuba, the place indicated for lunch was the Carlinhos bar, but I do not know if due to high season, the service of the bar was very poor and time-consuming.

The bus had some slightly bad seats, which impacts the experience since this tour consists basically of transportation. (Cost of activities/meals are the part)
There was also a 20-minute delay with a combined time ratio to pick up our group at the hotel.
About the places visited are very interesting, beautiful, worth a visit.
