- O116VIjamess0 contributionsAwesome tour, even better guideThis tour was probably the best thing we’ve done around DC. Wayne is absolutely amazing. I would tour any place where he is the guide!Written 15 November 2024
- Ann G0 contributionsGreat guide, great food!Despite the rain, our guide, Wayne, was excellent. The timing of the historical information and stops for dinner were nicely spaced. The three restaurants were very good and we had a good time with the other guests as well.Written 15 November 2024

- Global5999070 contributionsThe Best Way to Experience GeorgetownThis was a great tour of Georgetown. I learned a lot about the history and sampled some of the cuisine of Georgetown. The Spanish Tapas at Bodega were Superb!!! The tour started at 3pm and ended at 6:30pm, so I got to experience Georgetown in the daylight and after sundown. Robert, the guide did an excellent job sharing his knowledge, and he kept us moving at a good pace.Written 4 November 2024
- H7718MMjessicar0 contributionsGreat food and interesting historyGreat food at 3 of the 4 spots and interesting historical facts. Mexican restaurant was not my favorite ( little too spicy and tasted just like any other Mexican food I have had) but other 3 places were amazing so totally worth it. My only other complaint was that the guide maybe told a little too much history and I felt a little rushed with my food at the last 2 places. For me it’s all about the food so that made give 4 stars instead of 5.Written 30 October 2024
- Ian B0 contributionsBook this tour!We had such a great experience on our Georgetown food tour! Our tour guide, Robert, was personable, professional, easy going, and full of local knowledge. You could tell he has a great relationship with all of the restaurants we visited. Both Robert and the staff at the restaurants were really thoughtful about accommodating my dietary restrictions. We visited 3 different restaurants, with drinks available for purchase at each one, and a bakery. The food and service were incredible at each place. You will definitely be full at the end of the tour! I would recommend DC Metro Food Tours, and Robert specifically, to anyone who loves exploring new places through food.Written 23 October 2024

- WSRoyce0 contributionsOkayWhen guide was texted that we could not find her, she replied, “I am with the rest of the group.” Not helpful! She did not answer her phone. Another “lost” person saw a small group across the street.Written 30 September 2024
- dawnpZ245UL0 contributionsFirst food tour and I was not disappointed!Christian was our guide. He was great, down to his personality! The group we were with were all friendly. Stops were adequate. Wished the Mexican dish was not ice cold (it was a shrimp enchilada). The Italian stop was amazing! You got water at each location (as you sat and ate), so don't carry any with you. If you want to order "drinks" at each stop you should do so right when you sit down so you don't have to chug your drink before we leave...LOL Tour ended with a delicious macaroon stop, which was perfect!Written 3 September 2024
- 204chelseap0 contributionsGreat food, Guide needs guidanceOur tour guide was very nice, knowledge, but there wasn’t much conversation in the beginning, it was just her talking about history, pop culture or politics, which wasn’t relevant or entertaining. It would have been a better experience if she spoke about the food and details behind the restaurants we visited. However, as time went on, our group got more chatty and we enjoyed the food at every spot.Written 25 August 2024

- patrickjS3803EK0 contributionsGenerous Portions and a good lesson in Washington historyChristian was a great guide - a native of Washington he knew a lot about its history. Flavio's was delicious and the portions were very generous (biggest gnocchi I have ever had)! I'm not a huge seafood eater so I would have made some different choices at the Spanish Tapas and Mexican restaurant but my children loved all the food. The macaron at the end was very flavorful and delicious. We spent a good amount of time at each restaurant and we didn't feel rushed.Written 25 August 2024

This food tour was good, not great. The first stop felt very authentic and the food was excellent but it was lackluster from there.
You share off of the same plate with several others on 2 of the 3 stops. I would even find this odd in a non-COVID time — but especially find this off-putting during this time.
It was an enjoyable time, but nothing I would recommend as a must-do to others.

We have done many food tours around the country as we visit new places and this was the worst tour we have been on. Food tours need two parts to excel, the food and the tour guide. Both were lacking here.
The tour page lists 6 example stops and says the tour will last 3 - 3.5 hours. Our tour stopped at 3 restaurants and took 4.5 hours. At the Lebanese restaurant, food was served family style but there was not enough food for everyone to get a taste of most of the "dishes". I don't know if it is because we were so late or if the arrangements weren't confirmed, but the final stop didn't know we were coming and had to scramble to get the space arranged and make the food. We have never left a food tour hungry but we were starving after this one. Oh, and the "indigenous dessert" was the guide picking up cupcakes and bringing them to the 3rd restaurant.
Then for the guide. She was neither neither a good story teller nor at all interested in the food/restaurants visited. We got several long lectures on the points of Virginia history that seemed to interest her or tie to her time working for a senator, which may have worked on a history/politics tour, but not so much on a food tour. When asked for a restaurant recommendation for later, the response was rude.

Unfortunately our tour guide did not show up. Nor did we get a text or call that they were not going to. We had to chase the food tour company down and then we had to request options for alternative ideas. Among the alternate options given to us (they sent us a self guided itinerary with 4 restaurants that were expecting us), we had to then request a partial cost because we were not getting the full tour - they agreed to this but we had to ask for it. Turns out the tour guide was quite ill but I still think someone should have reached out with an email or text. All the food tour participants were only in town for that day. Overall, I can't review it as we didn't get a tour. None of the restaurants told us any history of the food or significance of being in Alexandria but they all had food waiting when we got there. The Mexican restaurant was really good.

We enjoyed our history and food tour, sitting down in 3 restaurants with great offerings. Plus a dessert shop to finish the tour. I always enjoy visiting the iconic restaurants especially. One suggestion is to include a restaurant on the tour that offers classic American dishes with local fare; peanut soup, Virginia ham, etc. That would be fun for tourists that are trying to experience the local flavor.

We hit four restaurants over the course of about three hours - Italian, Mediterranean, Mexican, and dessert. There was a complimentary glass of wine and drinks could be purchased along the way. I really appreciated learning about the rich history of Alexandria, and liked that the restaurants we visited were family-owned. We went as a couple and got to meet some great people, but would highly recommend going with a large group of friends!

Wayne was a wonderful tour guide. We learned so much about Alexandria's history and all four food stops were outstanding! He took great care to make sure everyone's unique needs were taken care of, including a food allergy, timing for subsequent appointments, and slowing things down a bit for my mother, who doesn't move as fast as she used to. I highly recommend this tour and plan to take some of the other tours that are offered.

Excellent food and history tour of Old Town. My husband and I live 2 miles away and received the tour as a wedding gift. We have tried many of the restaurants in Old Town but have not taken a walking history tour of the area. As luck would have it, our group was just us and a well-traveled retired couple! We had a blast chatting with them. Lynn was our guide and provided outstanding information and conversation! She is very smart in the history of the area. The restaurants varied in food style and provided us with ample samples of their fare. The Old Town area doesn't really have a "regional" cuisine other than perhaps Southern or American style. It's Alexandria, VA, not New Orleans. That said, you will try food from local, long standing (and new) restaurants. The whole experience (about 3 hours) was fantastic and I highly recommend the tour if you're in town.

This was a terrific history and food tour of Old Alexandria, VA! We sampled many delicious and diverse dishes from a handful of local eateries while learning about significant events and interesting stories from this town's rich history. Special touches from our restaurant hosts included wine and the option to sample some unique cocktails. Terry was a warm and engaging host—knowledgeable and considerate from start to finish. Everyone on the tour clearly enjoyed the experience—it was great fun to eat and learn. (With no room left in our tummies for dinner :-). Thank you DC Metro Food Tours - and Terry!

Wayne was a fantastic tour guide and had a great amount of interesting and engaging history to share along with fun for experiences. The stop at Vola's found the staff and restaurant a bit overwhelmed and disorganized but Wayne made it as good as possible. Great tour for a family!

Wayne rocks! We had a great food tour. The food was plentiful and varied. Loved the history and Wayne was very knowledgeable. Wayne’s stories were fabulous. Would have preferred individual servings rather than family style, especially during COVID times but highly recommend this tour.
