- Cruiser5477140 contributionsIntroduction to AustinMy friends and I took this tour to learn more about the area. Our leader was Doug, and he was wonderful. The tour left on time. Our bus was small and could only hold 14 people. Halfway through, the air had warmed up outside, and Doug stopped and opened the glass top and sides on the back half of the bus. It was like riding in the back of a pick up...but with comfortable seats. The information Doug and the recordings gave us was all very interesting and gave us a list of places we'd like to come back and visit. At the end, Doug suggested a restaurant close enough for us to walk to, and the food was delicious. We definitely highly recommend this tour!Written 25 November 2024

AO Tours, an iconic company in the City of Austin. Their amazing tours are fit for any size groups. I have been many times with various clients and never disappointed. Recently, we rode in their new lux tour bus, it was so much fun, very comfortable, the glass roof was impressive and when opened you felt the awesome city. The audio explanation of the sights was on spot, including the Spanish version. AND...they are sanitizing their vehicles every day with a hospital grade product via their tech machines. Talk about a Clinically Clean touring service!

Our 21/2 tours of Austin and Hill Country panoramic tour with AO was enjoyable and informative. We got a good overview of the city and hill country. Jaye was our driver and guide. He was amazing. He was full of knowledge about the history of the city as he pointed out buildings and businesses of interest. He was very accommodating to our group. He made sure to drop us off and pick us up in safe and convenient places at our stops. I was very comfortable with the van and felt Jaye was committed to sharing his love for Austin with us. I would recommend this tour with Jaye as a guide to anyone visiting Austin

Ari was our excellent driver and guide. The voice explaining important tour places was understandable and Ari made the trip! She was knowledgeable about every place on the trip your. The van was nice, hand sanitizer was used on first entrance to the van. Points of city places were pointed out with explanation.
Suggestion: Some of the tallest buildings floors maybe included in the tour. We looked up at one building and didn't know how many floors the building had and we passed by a great deal of tall buildings! I asked about this tree: The Treaty Oak is a Texas live oak tree in Austin, Texas, United States, and the last surviving member of the Council Oaks, a grove of 14 trees that served as a sacred meeting place for Comanche and Tonkawa tribes prior to European settlement of the area. Foresters estimate the Treaty Oak to be about 500 years old. Before its vandalism in 1989, the tree's branches had a spread of 127 feet (39 m). The tree is located in Treaty Oak Park, on Baylor Street between 5th and 6th Streets, in Austin's West Line Historic District. I think we passed by some old oak trees on the tour. Overall, the tour was excellent, I recommend this trip when visiting Austin, TX.

Beware of this bad tour service in Austin Texas named AO it is a awful tour service company, this so called company was definitely not worth $51 and wasn't even worth $5. Was so hot the AC wasn't working well. They did a really bad job at AO Tours. So beware of this shady service and they were very unfriendly to Asian visitors like us they lied cheated and stole from us visiting tourists. Never will I use this dishonest crooked service again. I’m seeing they are having truthful reviews pulled down off line, so beware of this bad tour service in Austin Texas named AO Tours. This racist service left us behind and would not pick us back up and stated tuff luck your a one minute to late that’s the way it go’s, when we called and AO tours of Austin TX driver left my guest and I in 102 degree weather to fend for ourselves refusing to help when calling them for service and help. Horrible Tour Service Company named AO Tours Austin Do not recommend this awful service company.

I'm sorry you were unhappy with the tour. The tour you were on can only stay at the stops for a very specific amount of time in order to stay on schedule, so because you didn't come back to board the bus on-time, you were left behind.
We tell all of our guests that if they do not come back to the bus on-time, they risk being left behind. That doesn't mean we won't help get you back to the departure/drop-off location, but we have to respect the rest of our guests who come back on-time. This applies to all of our guests no matter their race. We do not discriminate.
Our guide informed us that he did contact you to tell you that they'd help you get back to your car after being left. He said you refused that assistance. We contacted you as the owners of the business to also offer assistance, as well as, offering you seats on a later tour the same day or later in the weekend at no charge so you could at least finish the rest of the tour you missed. You didn't respond. We truly tried to resolve these issues with you.
If you want to be able to explore on your own schedule, we'd suggest booking a private tour in the future.
Further, businesses cannot just get their bad reviews pulled down. I'm not sure what you are referring to.
Regardless, we hope the rest of your time in Austin was enjoyable.

This tour was a great way to get an overview of the city and nearby Hill county. I enjoyed the added commentary provided by our driver Michael which supplemented the recorded information. I definitely recommend this tour at the beginning of your trip, then you can go back and see in more detail the areas that you learned about that interest you. With only a few days to explore Michael's recommendations helped me narrow down my top priorities

We took this tour on our first morning in Austin. The vehicle is one of the best touring vehicle I have been in. The top opens so you can see everything and even with the top closed, the glass surrounds you so you can still see very well. There is a canned narrative keyed by GPS. In between canned messages the driver interjected a lot of additional information. You should definitely do this early in your visit so you get a lay of the land for planning the rest of your stay.

Doug our tour guide made the tour of Austin briliant , he was witty, funny and cared about his customers despite being such a small group of us , writing this review is sooo easy for us.
As a family of 4 , we came to Austin as a 1/2 day trip . the bus that he took us round had so much legroom and just being able to sit back and see everything was relaxing. We was able to make a few stops for drinks which was nice instead of 1 solid 2 hour tour without stopping
If forever we return to Austin, we would definitely do Doug's tour again even though we know everything about the city of Austin and Doug's brunch recommendations. It would be fun to do it all again!! :)

I enjoyed traveling up through the hills and seeing the beautiful homes on the water. The tour offered a lot of great information about the history of Austin, current events, and informed you about the city’s culture. We made stops at some beautiful places that we later visited on our own.

It was ok. We wish there was more of a historic piece to the tour. The headphone system quit working mid tour so our guide had to wing it. He did an ok job telling us about Austin. But as a guide, your tour group should NEVER know where you stand in religion or politics. That soured the tour tremendously for us. We are there to hear and learn about your city not hear what you think of your governor or the “Jesus people” at Mount Barron.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The views of this guide are not those of AO Tours Austin. The narration has the historic information that you were looking for. We are working with your guide on how to manage the system so that it's fixed and back up in a timely manner. I have already taken corrective action and spoken to your guide about these issues and he has assured that it will not happen again. I will be sending you a separate email message with regard to this issue.

Tour was just okay. Not worth the $68. The bus was comfortable and I enjoyed the stop at mt. Bonnell. However, I would have preferred to stop at the capitol building rather than Mozart's (the coffee place). The stop at Mozart's was only 10 minutes but the line was too long. Recommend taking this stop off the tour and replacing it with something else. Other things that contributed to a less than stellar experience: 1)The Tour guide spoke over the narration in some parts so i missed a couple things. 2) In addition, there were not enough stops nor was it slow enough to take photos. Half the stops were just bathroom breaks. 3) the ride was very bumpy. Like riding a roller coaster. It made me a little queasy. Anyone who has the slightest issue with motion should not take this tour.
If you really want to see austin, take a different tour. And if you want to see hill country, save your money and take the drive on your own.
