About
You found the best experience in Kyoto for families! Come visit our home and let's have an every day home-cooked meal together. When you arrive, take a load off, drink some tea, and let's chat about your trip. We will segue into food talk and then we will preview the food that we will cook together that night. After that, we'll put aprons on and gather around the kitchen counter to slice, dice, and mix up the dishes. You will learn about the staples that we have from which most Japanese dishes can be made.
We are a busy family, but we are foodies and love to open our doors to the world. So as long as you are ok with coming over to a family home and making a meal with the kids, the cat, and the dog, let's enjoy the time together.
We open our home and hearts to you, in a setting where kids, pets, and adults can relax, eat, and talk together. Step into our house on the hill and become a part of our family for the day.

I appreciated that there was no pressure tot he cooking and it was a welcoming laid-back environment. It's cliche to say but at the end of the night I felt I'd just made some new friends and family. Definitely recommend!Written 14 March 2024

Highly recommend this cooking class with Anthony, Naomi and family. They were so welcoming and it was a memorable experience learning to cook authentic and delicious Japanese dishes in a relaxed home environment. This was a highlight of our trip and we especially appreciated the home cooked meal (and fresh produce)! Our conversations were enjoyable and Anthony went above and beyond providing recommendations for our time in the area and driving us back to the train station in the pouring rain. Our kids had a blast playing with their kids and have asked when we will be back to Japan to see their friends in Kyoto ❤️ Thank you again Anthony and Naomi!

What a fantastic evening enjoying what we cooked with this warm and welcoming family!! The home is in Kyoto's suburbs near the hills and forest and the trip there is part of the adventure looking at the homes and the way people live in this ancient city. The meal was superb because it incorporated ingredients and techniques we can use at home back in Australia. We were a group of 6 with varying cooking skills and everyone took something home!

Anthony and Naomi are wonderful people. They are welcoming and amazing chefs. We learnt how to make Tamagoyaki and will definitely try to make it again once back home. The location is a 10/10 they live in a lush place in front of a little shrine and the view is breathtaking.
Spending time with the whole family was absolutely what we needed in the middle of our travel. The kids are amazing and Clara also gave us a beautiful origami at the end of the dinner.
They also recommended places to visit around Kyoto and gave us a glimpse of Japanese culture in general, which helped us navigate the rest of our trip better.
I recommend this to everyone looking to spend some time in great company and learn about the Japanese traditional and contemporary culture.

Anthony and Naomi were great hosts and cooking teachers. We will definitely put what we learned to use. Enjoyed the conversation with them as well as with the other couple from Vienna. Just what we wanted. Home cooking that we can actually do vs. fancy cooking we won’t be able to do.

A fantastic night visiting Anthony, Naomi and their family. The cooking was simple and tasty and the real delight was the experience of meeting “friends” in a new country. Our kids loved playing with their kids, patting the dog and generally just getting to know a real family living in Japan. It was my daughter’s birthday so Anthony even arranged a cake. Sometimes on a trip with kids, something grounding and homely is just what you need amongst all the touristy stuff and cooking with this lovely family is an experience we won’t forget

Thank you so much for your kind words, Stephen! It was a true pleasure welcoming your family into our home and sharing a special evening with you all. We’re so happy to hear that your kids enjoyed playing with ours and spending time with our dog—it’s always fun for us to see children connect and make new friends. We’re especially glad that we could be part of Alice's birthday celebration, and it was our joy to arrange a cake to make the day extra memorable.
We love creating a homely and relaxing experience for families, and it’s so rewarding to hear that it provided a bit of grounding amidst your travels. Thank you for choosing to spend part of your trip with us. We hope the memories stay with you, and perhaps we’ll see you again on your next visit to Japan!
Warm regards,
Anthony, Naomi, and family

We had the most wonderful time with Anthony and his family! We learned how to make dashi, Japanese omelets, miso soup, and put together a lovely classic Japanese meal. Anthony's family was incredibly friendly and it was such a nice experience to dine and chat with them. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a unique cooking class that feels much more genuine and real. Next time we're in Kyoto we will absolutely book with Anthony again!

It was AWESOME! We met at the station nearby and walked together to the house where we got to know the cutest family. Their dog (or you even could say puppy) Luca was so adorable, as we cooked we listened to some jazz and got to know them better. It was such a great last evening for me and my friend in kyoto and I would definitely recommend to cook with this wholesome family together. We even got little presents!! Maybe we will meet again when we go to Kyoto another time :)
