About
This is the description of the 7-hour Desert Tour:
We travel through one of the oldest deserts in the world and find ourselves surrounded by the rugged and rocky scenery of the Namib Desert. Experience the "Ringing Stones" and the fascinating plants of the Namib, for example the remarkable Welwitschia Plant, a living fossil which is only found in this geographical area. With a bit of luck, one can see Springbok, Klipspringer. Steenbok, Baboon, Ostriches, Ruppels Korhaan and Trac-Trac Chat. After a lunch break we drive along the dry riverbed of the Swakop Valley and pass the Oasis "Goanikontes". We close off this tour with a visit to the Shifting sand dunes near Swakopmund.
Please note: The 4-hour Desert Tour involves a shorter route and does not include a lunch break.

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- crustypedro0 contributionsAwful place with dead seals and a truly toxic stenchWe had heard about the large seal colony so decided to make the trip from swakopmund to see the seals. Around 120 km each way for memory. Entry was about 350 rand for 2 people. When we got to the site from the gate, we were greeted with a horrendous stench. I’ve been to seal colonies before and smelt seals, but nothing like this. It was toxic. There were dead seals everywhere. Many baby seals were trapped on the walkway and their mothers couldn’t get to them. They were trapped. It was a truly awful experience and the smell of dead seal doesn’t leave when you leave. It’s such a strong smell it sticks to your skin and clothes. We drove back to swakopmund and showered to get rid of the smell. Maybe if you are driving past anyway, you could stop by to see a large number of seals, but not worth a special trip to see dead seals and be exposed to such a foul smell.Written 18 December 2024
- janen5580 contributionsAmazing tour through the Namib desertToday we did the half-day tour in the Namib desert with Hans and we absolutely enjoyed it. First of all, Hans is one of the kindest guides ever, with an amazing amount of knowledge. You can ask him almost anything, and he’ll provide you with an answer. Secondly, when we told him we wanted to see the dunes, he offered to bring us to the dunes so we could climb them and make pictures. So thoughtful! And last, but definitely not least, the tour through the desert was just amazing. The vast plains, the beautiful moon landscape, the Swakop river bedding, the welwitschia plant, it was amazing. Thank you Hans, for the great company and the lovely day!Written 16 November 2024
- RoaminRod0 contributionsA awesome placeArrangements were well communicated and the area is stunningly beautiful and worth the drive out there. Hans-Dieter’s family has lived here since 1900 and his knowledge and stories were enjoyable and informative. A special place indeed and we were well looked afterWritten 28 October 2023
- 486ireneu0 contributionsAmazing experience from the sights and well experienced guide, providing interesting details about the area.Positively impressed from the trip and guide’s insights on interesting facts abour flore & fauna. Entire trip was well balanced and planned. The sceberies are spectacular. Highly recommend!Written 18 October 2023
- dacabs0 contributionsDisappointing visitOverpriced. R100 per person plus R50 for car! All you get is a pamphlet with the seal story. The walkway is closed - in disrepair? So you cannot look at seals on beach. Seals everywhere but they move away from humans - do they fear humans because of annual cull of Cubs? Nevertheless seals are interesting although very smelly. Disappointing- hopefully the money paid goes to conservationWritten 28 May 2021
- Shimnik0 contributionsDay trip to Spitzkoppe - great! The tour was provided by Hans-Dieter, an old German/Afrikaans/English speaking Namibian gentleman. It was the full day tour that I enjoyed a lot! I was picked up at 9 a.m. and brought back at around 4 p.m. Be aware that the Spitzkoppe is around 160 km away, so that you spend quite some time driving. Despite if the age, Hans-Dieter is very active and can assist you very well. The lunch provided was very tasty. No complains, only positive memories.Written 5 January 2021
- Elsa D0 contributionsAwesome tour to see the Welwitschia plantsOur guide took us to see the Welwitschias. He was very knowledgeable and shared many stories with us. We learned so much about this unique plant and how it is being protected. What was impressive, was also how people live and survive in this barren landscape. Highly recommended tour.Written 22 December 2020

Ernst was a great tour guide, very knowledgeable and passionate about the desert and his work.
He found snskes, lizards, birds and retrieved debris blowing around the desert. A fantastic afternoon with him. We all thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon.

We had an amazing tour and created unforgettable memories. Our experienced guide, Hans, was a fantastic host. We enjoyed a private tour with him and experienced the Namibian desert to the fullest. The highlight was the lovingly prepared picnic lunch under a large rock.

Used this tour company to go to namib desert and we drove through the dried swakop river as well as through the desert to see moonscape view point and then found the welwitschia plants, very informative and worth the visit. Recommend if you decide to go to Swakopmund.

Is it possible for the half day tour to include sand dunes? Happy to exclude one of the other stops in order to do the dunes in the half day tour.
