About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 2022michaelandrew0 contributionsArtisan tour of KanazawaNozomi was a friendly and very knowledgeable guide who spoke excellent English. The artisans we visited were masters of their trade and demonstrated their finely honed skills. And there was no pressure selling!Written 19 March 2025
- jonlU7564TB0 contributionsSamurai museum and surrounding areas.Happy with the tour and a knowledgeable tour guide. The Samurai city has an interesting history. Thoroughly enjoyed it.Written 17 March 2025
- rodsX4055KA0 contributionsWonderful experience, excellent serviceCan't speak highly enough of our experience. Communication from Kanazawa Tours was concise and specific, confirmed details in advance so that we were confident that all was in order. Our driver/guide Tetsuro was exceptional; courteous, efficient, helpful, and friendly. He was always happy to lengthen/shorten elements of our tour to ensure that we got what WE wanted, not just a standard tour. We highly recommend this service.Written 13 March 2025
- Willem_Traveler0 contributionsVery good, charming and helpful guideOur guide Kumiko was wonderful, very helpful, charming, and funny (we loved the little hand puppet panda and the little jumping paper frogs she folded for us sur place). She was also flexible in meeting our wishes and organising an impromptu lunch in a nice small restaurant on the road from Shirakawa-go to Kanazawa, and accompanied us right to the hotel reception to drop us off there. We can only recommend her!Written 13 March 2025
- 363seamusd0 contributionsWonderful day in Kanazawa with SachikoSachiko was an absolutely wonderful tour guide. Very friendly and insightful. We had a wonderful time. We felt like we saw all of the major attractions in Kanazawa and would highly recommend this tour! We were a little rushed to get all three areas done in the half-day: if you have slower party members or a big group the full day tour may be more appropriate.Written 12 March 2025
- victortY8973TH0 contributionsShirakawa - wow!We had a great trip to Shirakawago. Our guide Tetsuro picked us up at our hotel. We had a quiet drive out. As the ladies slept, Tetsuro told me a bit about the region and Japan. The name means village by the white river, it takes a month of courses to get your driver's license in Japan, interesting tidbits like that. We were fortunate it was a sunny day and Tetsuro remarked that he had never seen the parking lot so empty. His quiet demeanor and knowledge really made our trip memorable. Would definitely recommend this trip with Tetsuro.Written 12 March 2025

- markbU9769HR0 contributionsInteresting tour with knowledgeable guideTetsuro was very attentive and asked us what we wanted to see. He explained what we were passing and took us to the key sites in Kanazawa. He was able to answer the majority of our questions. The tour included a visit to an artisan‘s house who was designing kimonos, which was very interesting. The items the artisan was selling were very, very beautiful but also very expensive. We had a very enjoyable morning with Tetsuro and would highly recommend.Written 11 March 2025
- Pathfinder5901790 contributionsGreat experience with Nozomi and artisanal visitsOur guide Nozima was fantastic. Knowledgable, engaging, excellent English. We visited two artisanal homes - both hugely interesting and informative. The time, and lovely lunch, also allowed for some detailed questions, and answers on Japanese culture, history and way of life. Altogether a very enjoyable day which is highly recommended. Nozomi is a star!Written 10 March 2025
- Wanderer636618417600 contributionsFirst visit to Japan...Nozomi Kondo (Kanazawa Tours - acting on behalf of Firebird Tours) was a joy to spend the day with! She met us early at the hotel...just the way we like. Also, very professional and knowledgeable about Japan. She made us feel comfortable right away and we felt like family by the end of our tour. We laughed, learned and can consider her a friend.Written 8 March 2025
- Y7126DElk0 contributionsFun and informative tourAi was our tour guide and she was not only extremely knowledgeable about Kanazawa’s culture and history, but she was welcoming, warm and friendly as well. The tour was a highlight of our Japan trip. We most highly recommend it!Written 8 March 2025
- magdalina_atanassova0 contributionsBeautiful experience all around! This was such a lovely day! Tetsuro took us to Shirakawago and Takayama (it was too snowy to go to Hida Furukawa) and we had a blast. He was very informative and patient with us. We truly appreciated that he took notice of our speed and was ready to change things up when we asked. If you are going in the winter months, make sure you dress appropriately - there were 3-4 meters of snow when we went and it was beautiful! It was an amazing day and I hope we can do it again.Written 5 March 2025
- G9023TLjohn0 contributionsShirakawago & Gokayama in WinterTwo very beautiful towns to visit and learn their history. It’s amazing to think people have lived here for hundreds of years. - melanierN2083BT0 contributionsGreat TourOur Tour Guide was Ai san. I can highly recommend her as a guide. She has a great know-how. And she is so passionate about Kanazawa, it is such a fun to listen to her and ask her questions. Her spark springs over to the group. Really loved it. 🤩Written 1 March 2025
- monikat8050 contributionsBest day everOur guide Sachiko and our driver Ian were great. They were very patient with us and showed us all the important things. They have a lot of knowledge about the place. We got to know the place in Inami and the art of woodcutting. Afterwards, we had lunch together. Simply a fantastic day. The place in Inami is very idyllic and absolutely worth a visit. We can only recommend it.Written 25 February 2025

We spent a great few hours walking through Kanazawa in the evening with Tetsuro Aida. His deep knowledge of the different neighborhoods, temples, and shrines we visited all helped to provide a great introduction to the city’s rich history. He also took us off the beaten path to visit some unusual sights (including a spinning library!). We appreciated his sense of humor and his willingness to entertain any type of question. He took us to an amazing restaurant for a traditional Udon meal (with great tempura on the side) that definitely warmed us up after the cold and rain. The relatively small size of the group (just six of us) made for a nice and convivial evening—Tetsuro provided us with an excellent overview of Kanazawa.

Nozomi’s walking tour was absolutely outstanding! Her passion for the area, engaging storytelling, and incredible depth of knowledge made the experience unforgettable. The tour was packed with fascinating stories, historical facts, and personal insights that truly brought the area to life.
What impressed me most was how well-curated the experience was—Nozomi even provided top-notch recommendations for dinner and drinks that perfectly complemented the tour.
A quick tip: bring extra layers and an umbrella as the weather can get cold and wet.
If you’re looking for an entertaining, educational, and expertly guided tour, I highly recommend booking with Nozomi. You won’t be disappointed!

We had much more fun and noticed more exploring Kanazawa with Tetsuro than when we walked around on our own. He really brought the city to life with stories of the geisha, history, architecture, discreet passages. There were so many details we learned and it was so beautiful and peaceful at night. I think Tetsuro is to blame for my husband's love of Tanuki and new collection of 8 statues. He took excellent pictures of us and sent them the next day. We loved the private dining experience in a traditional setting with some of the best food we experienced in Japan. Even entering the charming restaurant and enjoying the meal was educational. This was the highlight of our time in Kanazawa!!

I booked this tour and then added another person going from two to three people. Trip Advisor set the price about 3,500 yen more for the additonal person, which made sense as the additonal cost was only for the meal and drinks. The operator then cancelled the tour and said there was an error on Trip Advisor with the pricing and I should book directly through them. I was reluctant to do this. The operator then advised the pricing had been corrected, but when I went to book the price had gone up by 40,000 yen for the additional person. The bookings on Trip Advisor says the cost goes down with more people, this was not true until you had over 5 people, and then it was only a marginal deduction. When I pointed this out to the operator, I was told that with only three people I was getting a private tour and once again asked to book directly through them to achieve a lower cost. This is a brief summation of an exchange with the operator that took place over days not long before my trip. Kanazawa is a small town, it is very much worth visiting. It is easy to navigate the streets and there are plenty of dining options. Our hotel recommended a restaurant and recommended a night walking path which took us down the street in the picture; here there are shops of local foods, gifts, etc..., with staff who are interested in telling you about the geisha district. The meal with drinks for three people was less than 25,000 yen. I am glad the operator was difficult to deal with upfront, not going on this tour led to a really enjoyable evening.

Thank you for taking the time to review our tour, even though you were not fortunate enough to go on the tour. There was an error in the pricing at one point on Viator which we fixed immediately, once our attention was brought to it. We also offered numerous discounts and went out of our way to assist you in rebooking your tour to no avail. We are glad that you had an enjoyable evening without our tour but the 2 are not comparable when you haven't tried both. Thank you again for the review, it will keep us on our toes.

Sachiko and Ai were a delight, they showed us around the Geisha districts and pointed out key points of interest and features of shops and geisha houses along the way.
Dinner was delicious in an awesome restaurant. I definitely recommend following their food and drink recommendations! The sake was delicious.

We met our guide Tetsuro at 6pm and spent about an hour walking through the old Geisha districts, Tetsuro shared lots of fascinating facts and insights. We then went to a restaurant and had a really delicious meal. I had the pork udon as did one of my children and the other 2 had the beef. You part cook it yourself on burners and sit at a traditional table. Tetsuro was an interesting host and we enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about Japanese culture and food. We then had a pear jelly pudding and some homemade ginger tea. The restaurant was lovely, we really couldn’t fault it. I wouldn’t think this tour is suitable for children, mine are all adults. So if you are looking for a local cultural evening this is ideal and one I am happy to recommend for adults,

Tesuro guided us around the lovely streets of the Geisha Districts, explained the history, location, customs, and origins, answering questions as we went. He and Marina took photos of our small group at strategic points. We then had a lovely meal at a traditional restaurant run by a well known and very welcoming owner and staff. It was a pleasure to chat to Tesuro and Marina over dinner. Thankyou! I would recommend.

We met Tetsudo at the appointed time, just as planned. Our guide was very knowledgeable on the history of the area we toured. He was very friendly, outgoing and humorous as well. My wife and I are particularly interested in history and Tetsudo knows the local area and history well. We visited the geisha district, and that was very interesting. We saw some temples, and the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. Perhaps of the best parts of the tour was the wonderful restaurant he took us to. This is the type of restaurant that a tourist would probably not be able to find on their own. We both had tempura udon and cooked the noodles in front of us. We had lovely conversation with Tetsudo and took a cab home to our hotel afterward. We highly recommend this tour and especially our guide Tetsudo!

Tetsuro is a wonderful guide! He knows so much about Kanazawa, and loves sharing the fascinating history of the geisha districts. Because it was night, the districts were almost empty - it was quiet and magical, like stepping back in time. We then walked along the river to a restaurant where we enjoyed delicious udon. Tetsuro is warm, friendly, knowledgable, and we had a marvelous time!

OK, so the guide Sachiko is as excellent, very knowledgeable about the area, with v good English skills. However the evening just isn’t worth the money, the meal was good but just not worth the price paid. This was a £15 each meal that they charge £65 for along with a 2 hr guide. I’d have expected much more meal wise for the money.
