Tripadvisor gives a Travellers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travellers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor.
Today you will enjoy an adventurous full-day safari at Wilpattu National Park including breakfast and lunch at the Park. Wilpattu National Park is the largest national park in Sri Lanka. Wilpattu National Park is well worth as a standalone attraction as it records the second-highest leopard density in Sri Lanka, after Yala. It also admits a fewer number of visitors, which sets it in stark contrast to Yala National Park, which tends to get overcrowded. These reasons alone make Wilpattu National Park a perfect alternative for proper safari-goers who prefer to see magnificent wild animals in their natural habitat while avoiding annoying crowds.

      Personalised tour of Kandy
Anush, our guide/driver tailored our day to Kandy precisely to our needs. We went to the Spice Garden, Tea factory and then to Kandy sacred temple of the Tooth. Anush loves history and so was very knowledgeable about Sri Lankan past. He took us in the Museum and also to see the Raj elephant preserved statue, he was a beautiful animal indeed. We didn't want to shop so he took us to see beautiful views across Kandy and also to see the white Buddha statue. On the way back Anush stopped so we could have a king coconut drink from the roadside. We would thoroughly recommend asking for Anish, thank you for a fabulous day.

Knuckles mountains exploration is a must do hike by any nature lover. Nipuna Basnayake’s team is brilliant on guiding.
An amazing experience for life. The support we got from our tour guide , Janaka Soyza, was brilliant. A challenging hike, but the experience is just wonderful!

One of the most authentic Sri Lankan experiences we ever had
It was absolutely fantastic- one of the most authentic Sri Lankan experiences we ever had where nature and culture were both present! We booked the trip in the last minute (evening before) after reading an article online. The coordinator called us soon after and sent via whatsapp the itinerary and the price quote and we agreed on a pick up time. The jeep arrived reasonably on time, took us to breakfast, and then to the hike starting point. They distributed special anti-leech socks, water and raincoats for those of us who did not have (it was rainy). The route was not very challenging, the pace was very good and our guide was the best ine we ever had- super kind, knowledgable and entertaining, with insights on both nature and local culture - we saw a the rich variety of flora, the most sweet and smiling locals (much different from those you meet in the hustling towns) and even caught a close glance at an eagle. We had lunch by the waterfall and for the end of the tour some tea to warm us up after the rain that got us quite wet. Despite the rainy weather (we did get quite wet and did not have a change of clothes which would have saved us from being so called on the ride back) and the many leeches (really bear in mind that there are a lot of them and are more disgusting than harmful) the experience was totally worth it and we highly recommend this hike - especially with the great guide (we did not catch his name) we were so lucky to have! :)

Most awaited jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park
We always wanted and interested on visiting udawalawe national park from years now. Wild elephants were the highlight of the tour. Driver who picked us from Ella was very good, he drove very safely to the park. Even though the safari was for 3 hours, we saw everything we wanted to see. Jeep driver kasun tried his best to catch the best places to see the creatures where he is very good at. Very well organized tour. We are happy

Jeep Safari in Udawalawe national park
We booked a half day safari in Udawalawe National Park couple of days back before we heading to Galle from Ella. It was for me and 4 of my friends and was a fantastic experience. We saw many elephants, peacocks and crocodiles yes we were very lucky! Our jeep safari driver was really good and well desciplined. He took us safely and patiently waited for us till we get some nice captures of those incredible elephants. A memorable experience and highly recommended!

Fantastic safari and beautiful park for a reason. We had both afternoon and morning safari the next day of our visit to Wilpattu National Park. Both were about 4 hours each by duration. Our jeep driver and guide were fabulous and we were lucky enough to spot elephants bathing in the lake. This park is less crowded than Yala National Park which contains many jeeps and visitors. So we were able to see the beauty of nature peacefully. After the safari we were head back to Negombo by our driver. Would definitely recommend this as the best tour from Negombo area.

Special note - there are many wild monkeys in the park and make sure you avoid them or otherwise they will chase for food of yours.

I was wondering where to start. It was a very pleasant experience right after rumesh picked us from our hotel in negombo early in the morning. Headed to wilpattu national park after that for the amazing experience we ever had. Crocodile dragging its food to the lake was the highlight of our tour. Plus we saw deers, elephants, buffalos, many birds and one bear too. Jeep safari was last about 7 hours and it was worth the time and price. Breakfast and lunch included in the package which is quite nice. Very well organized and we loved the tour. Thank you

It was our last days of the round tour, having done Minneriya National Park Half Day Jeep safari with hundred of elephants we wondered whether it was worth the trip to Wilpattu. Luckily the safari went really well. We saw many creatures including 3 leopards at the end of the safari. Driving around the lake was very enjoyable. Even if you don't see anything, it is a a great excursion into nature. Besides, the park is full of different types of birds and reptiles. For bird lovers I recommend to go early in the morning and spot more birds. Our guide was superb and drove the jeep very carefully to spot the best. Good day to remember.

The safari really went above our expectations, in terms of the amount of animals we saw and how close we got to them, it really is full day of animal spotting! We ended up seeing the big 5 all in one trip plus many others, in total we saw 3 leopards, one less than 3 metres from the jeep! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and a very skilled animal spotter, he cared a lot and really hustled to get us good spots. Breakfast, lunch, snacks and water were provided, local food, it was good considering you’re in the middle of nowhere. We went from Colombo through the tour company, about 3-3 1/2 hours to get there, air conditioned van, no complaints.

Most of the animals are quite close, there were a couple in the distance, so if you have binoculars I would suggest to bring them, we didn’t have them, which was fine in the end.

Given the early start, and rural location if you need caffeine in the morning I suggest to bring it with you.

Me and my partner took a day tour from Negombo to Wilpattu National Park a few weeks back. Started early in the morning at 04.00 am at this park. After nearly three hours I managed to arrive at the park. Lots of credit to the guide who knew how to find the animals. We gave the Guide a very good tip 5000 Rupees for his very efforts. We were lucky to have Abey who was the driver. His objective is to show you Leopards first. Some wildlife you can expect are Wild Water Buffalo, Monkey, Sri Lankan Flapshell Turtle, Sri Lankan Junglefowl, Peacock and Deer. It is a highly valued wildlife destination for both local and foreign tourists. And if you are looking for a day tour from negombo, this is the one you should keep an eye on.

Driver was prompt to pick me up in Colombo and off we went – arrived early at the park and enjoyed a great first half of the safari (the jeep driver was excellent, he spotted animals from any which angle). Lunch was also really good. After that we were off to the second part of the safari. Beware you're booking a full day and that might just get a little tiring after a while but simply sitting back and enjoying the absolutely stunning national park makes that truly worthwhile.

Easy to book and any question answered via WhatsApp. Pick up from Colombo hotel at 4 a.m. drive to park and back (arrived 9.30 p.m.) safe and on time. We spent 10 hours (!) in Wilpattu so plenty of time to take in the scenery, and wait in a couple of spots for wildlife to show up. This is how we spotted a leopard which took her time to show herself where she hadn't been seen for hours. Many cool birds (i.e. owls, eagles etc.) as well in addition to buffalo, wild boar, elephant to name a few, it was an amazing (long) day. Since I only had a Sunday to do this, next time I would spend a night near Wilpattu and do two full days or 1 1/2.

We recently booked the Wilpattu National Park Jeep Safari from Negombo and had a mixed experience. While the shuttle driver and safari driver were both professional and skilled—we were disappointed by some aspects of the tour logistics.

The main issue was the inaccurate travel time stated in the advertisement. The listing mentioned a 3-hour trip to the park in the morning and a 3-hour return trip. However, it took 5 hours to return home after a long, bumpy, and exhausting 10-hour safari. Speaking with local Sri Lankans, we learned that evening traffic is consistently bad, so the extended return trip is a normal occurrence.

And for the ladies out there, be careful because there are no western toilets with toilet paper. Luckily we planned ahead and brought tissues.

We kindly ask the organizers to update their advertisement to reflect the actual travel times. This would help travelers make an informed decision about whether to choose the full-day or half-day option, especially since such long travel times can significantly impact the experience.

While the safari itself and the staff were good, the unexpected delays made the day much longer and more tiring than anticipated. With better communication and realistic travel time estimates, this tour could easily be a 4 or 5-star experience.

Really appreciate being able to do this special safari with Wondrous Tours. The staff are super accommodating, being willing to adjust the start time around our delayed flight.

We did the full day tour and it’s a really long day. We were super taken care of the whole time with plenty of water bottles/drinks available as well as breakfast, snack and lunch.

Hats off to the drivers since a full day tour is long for everyone involved. Our transfer driver was great at making sure we stopped at facilities that had Western washrooms and took us to a good spot for us to buy dinner on the way back. Our safari driver was super expert at navigating the park and you can tell he had a lot passion and care for the job with how he totes his own camera with high zoom lens.

Seeing such a wide range of animals was really more of a bonus to all of this since it’s not something anyone can directly control. If you come with the mindset of experiencing a great drive through a beautiful and somewhat untouched national park with expert drivers then you’ll have a great time. The safari drivers want to show you the animals as much as they can, but the animals can be elusive sometimes and no one can control that. We were lucky to see just about everything except elephants on our tour day.

We were bit hesitant about the price, since all the stuff we’ve done in Sri Lanka so far was more on budget. But this was worth every penny! We had a great driver dedicated to show as as many animals and beautiful park views as possible. The offroading was also super fun, at first the roads are ok and and you can see the other jeeps, but then most of the time we were alone in the wilderness going through mud, sand and water. The highlight for us was having a lunch while watching leopard resting in a shade across the lake. 10/10 after this, all the ZOOs we have been in so far seems lame, safari is a way to go!
