    What to Expect
Start the day with morning pickup from your Borobudur-area hotel, then make the short trip to Pakem Village, the starting point of the hike to Menoreh Hill.

Set out alongside your guide, hiking through a landscape of forests, rice paddies, and vegetable plantations that offer a fascinating glimpse of traditional Javanese life and culture. You’ll stop in rural villages along the way, where you can watch farmers working hard in the fields, with the chance to chat with some locals.

Take a break from hiking in a coffee and tea plantation, the perfect place to see firsthand how tea and coffee is grown, harvested, sorted, and processed on the island of Java. When you reach the summit of Menoreh Hill, you’ll have views across the Kedu Valley and the Borobudur Temple Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back to the 8th century. After your group completes the hike back to Pakem Village, this tour concludes with return transfer to your hotel.

    Awesome Experience
This was an awesome experience for all of us. Java Bali Trips takes good care of you. The itinerary is very flexible so no rush going through the site. Ardi is a professional tour guide and he speaks English very well. He describes everything about the temple. The jeep ride is a lot of fun, more so if you have children. I highly recommend booking this package.

    A unique experience to remember
Made a 4 day private tour plan with JavaBali trips and I can assure you that it was the best decision I've made. I've had experience travelling to a few South East Asian countries and these guys were one of the best. My driver/tour guide Mr. Dani was just an awesome, friendly and caring person. He had explained in detail regarding every place that we went and told us a lot regarding the local culture. He even bought us a dish made from cassava and had refused the accept any payment for it. Mr. Ardi had come to send us on the last day to send us off and had also given us a lot of info regarding the places we visited. If ever you get him as your guide and you love coffee please do ask him about kopi luwak. In summary, if you want an organised and well planned trip to Yogyakarta don't hesitate to book these guys.

    Great Driver and Guide
The driver of the rented vehicle was great, flexible and informative. But it was difficult for me to realize during booking the entrance ticket for Borobudur Temple is not included in my package.

    Sunrise at Borobudur
The journey started at 3:30 am and we made it to the top on time for the sunrise. However, it was too misty and we could not see it. After the day got brighter, we spent time exploring the magnificent temple and then went down for breakfast, that was included in the tour. This tour includes the driver and breakfast only. Any tickets to temples are paid in addition. After Borobudur, we went to see it from below, on the way back through some other small temples (also paid separately). Near one of them, we got to visit a place where they produce luwak coffee and we sat down to try it. The tour also included going up to a mountain on a jeep (paid separately), but it was too misty for that, so we just headed back to the hotel for a rest. Even though we did not see the sunrise from the postcards, the temple is still worth visiting.

Good Option for an organized tour/driver
As many people have already specified you are getting an English speaking driver, not a tour guide. He will pick you up at 3:30 am from your hotel and remind you about a pick up a day before via ‘what’s up’ if available. His English is pretty good comparing to others. After driving for about an hour, you will get to Borobudur to see the sunrise. He will collect your money and get you a ticket for 475,000 IDR or about 35 USD, so make sure you have plenty of cash on hands. Then, he will show you where to go, and you just follow the crowd... walk for about 15 minutes an you are in the temple... be prepared for lots of tourists just like you and be considerate, everyone is in the same boat. At 7pm, he will expect you back, you will have your breakfast at the ticket office. Then, you head to the other two small temples (underwhelming to my liking, but matter of preference). Then, you will drive for about an hour and a half to Merapi volcano... from the base you are one your one with the Jeep driver for which you have to pay separately - also about 450,000 IDR. I didn’t go because the day was very cloudy and one couldn’t see the volcano. Instead, we headed to Prambanan Temple for additional 150,000 IDR for driving me there. The temple was as amazing as Borobudur, totally worth the visit. The driver again collected my money for the entrance 350,000 IDR or about 25USD, and went to some shady office for an e-ticket (located a bit further from the temple) instead of getting the tickets at the official counter in Prambanan itself. The price seemed the same, but I don’t understand why stop somewhere else for the ticket and not getting it at the entrance, there were no lines or people at the entrance whatsoever. The he dropped me off at the hotel. What I didn’t like: I asked to stop at the money exchange if one is on the way, it’s seemed like there was nothing of that sort, instead the driver asked me how much money I want to change and what’s the rate I changed it before. I feel that it’s unprofessional to ask such things. Another thing, is the collecting money for the entrance in advance... if I’m going everywhere by myself anyways, why does he collect my money, instead of me buying the tickets on my own. I didn’t like that and found it suspicious. I liked that he did stop at the store to get me an electric plug that I needed after I saw the store that was on the way. Otherwise he would have probably forgotten as it was at the end of the tour. In town you can also get yourself a driver for a bit less but with worse English. But if you want to save yourself from the hassle, I would recommend this company.

    Worth the price!
I highly recommend this trip! Once we book the trip, the guide (his name is Bang Bang) contact us by email and WhatsApp. We wanted to see the sunrise at Borobudur temple, therefore our guide gladly accepted to pick us at 3 am in our hotel instead of the normal 6am time that is described in the trip. Bang Bang was amazing! Very friendly and with knowledge to explain to us the history of the temples. The Borobudur temple is gonna blow your mind! The sunrise at Borobudur is something that I will never forget. After that we had a breakfast that is included when you pay the ticket entrance to the temple. Bang bang also took us to another small temples. The tour to Merapi volcano is ok, but the top of the cherry of this trip is the Borobudu and Prambanan temples. At the end of the day we saw an amazing sunset and Prambanan temple and then Bang Bang took us to our hotel. One of the best experience of our trip to Indonesia.

Full day trip with amazing views and a spectacular driver
We started our tour with a hotel pick up right on time with no delays whatsoever, even though it was very early in the morning (3:30 am). Our driver Ardi (sorry if I spelled it incorrectly) greeted us and gave us an informative and an interesting talk about the area and the temple we were going to. He commented on the areas we were going through which made the ride enjoyable. He asked us if we had enough cash as the entrance fee is quite expensive (400,000 rupiah/person) and we told him no but we can stop at an ATM to withdraw, he said it's ok and he will pay now out of his pocked and we pay him later so we don't waste any time now. When we arrived there he guided us through the entrance to the Musallah for Fajr prayer. After that he explained if we wanted a guide or not and he will be waiting for us at the same spot. We opted for no guide as we wanted to see the sunrise and take pictures, we weren't interested in lengthy explanations and it was a bit expensive too. The sunrise and the temple was breathtaking and beautiful, we took so many pictures and enjoyed the scenery so much that we stayed there till 7:00 am before heading back to the meeting point. After the temple we enjoyed a delicious breakfast with Ardi and we headed to our next destination. Ardi told us how he researched how the most expensive coffee in the world is made and how it acquired its unique taste. We arrived and experienced a delicious cup of hot chocolate as we don't drink coffee. After that we went to mount Merapi by jeep with a bumpy ride that we both enjoyed and tired us. We took memorable pictures and went back home. I would definitely recommend this tour for anyone who's planning to visit Yogyakarta!

Wonderday daytrip sunrise Borobudur with Ardi
Ardi picked us up @ 3:30 sharp to bring us to the Borobudur to see the sunrise. On the way he told us all kind of things about borobudur, living in Indonesia, and all other stuff. After Borobudur to the two most important other temples belonging to the borobudur complex. After drinking coffee we went to the Agung Merapti. A vert bumpy road to the mountain, when you have backpain or another uncomfort it is not advisiable to do. But once up a beautiful view of the vulcano. Ardi is a wonderfull guy and great guide. Absolute recommender to do. Price does not invlude entry fees, but this is clearly mentioned when booking

    Borobudur & Prambanan are excellent
First to say that our driver, who we then hired as a guide Ardi was fantastic and made the difference between "another b***** temple tour" and a very enjoyable day. Both Borobudur and Pranbatan are excellent temples to see but, if like us you have seen Ankor Wat and temples ad-infinitum in Thailand and Sri Lanka it can get a bit of - you have to do it but .... If you haven't then you must go see them. Within the tour you pay for an English speaking driver. Ardi clarified this on the way to Borobudur however he is available for hire. This guy knows so much! I said to him before we started - 90 minutes here will be all we need. However he took us around the 1st level and told us the story of several of the panels and related it back to both Hindu and Buddhist beliefs AND today's issues. He is a Muslim so enlightened us a lot about common Islamic beliefs also. We spent 3 hours there and I am sure that if I asked him, he could have spent 8 hours telling us interesting stuff. We then went to Pawon Temple. This is not interesting but the civet cat and coffee was really interesting. Final call for us was Prambanan Temple. Again a really spectacular temple and again Ardi knew so much. Unfortunately we went in the last week of the Java school holiday so the place was absolutely packed with Indonesian families. The crowds were fine and the people amazingly friendly. The traffic however was a big problem. The clouds cover meant that a trip to Merepi Volcano would have been a waste of time, and anyway we had spent so much time at the temples that it was irrelevant anyway. Beware - we bought combination tickets for both temples at IDR1,250,000 for 2 people. With the price of everything else in Java so cheap this is a bit of a shock but when you convert it into £, Euro or $ it is not too expensive and extremely good value actually. Final words - Ardi is incredibly knowledgeable and very interesting. Nice guy with a great attitude. Worth every penny.

Worth the cost and the early start!
When I first booked this tour I didn't realise that, despite it bring very clear on the listing, the cost doesn't include entrance fees for the attraction. Most of my tours in Indonesia have been ~£15 cheaper, so I started to wonder if I had made the right choice, but there was nothing to worry about! Although I'd booked at 6:30am start, driver Dani messaged me the night before to ask if I wanted to go for sunrise (a 3:30am departure from my hotel in central Yogya). I mulled it over for an hour or so but, with ten hours' notice, decided to go for it. So off we set at 3:30. We didn't return home until close to 7. During that long day we visited an astonishing five temples, the Buddhist monastery, and Mount Merapi. Dani was very easy company, full of energy despite the long day, and with excellent English skills. We chatted all day about various things, and his driving was always safe and comfortable. I ended up tipping even more at the end of the day because I was so grateful for his willingness to manage the early start and long day. I'm consequently very happy to recommend this trip. It was worth every rupiah and every second of sleeplessness.

Perfect for those after ease and convenience without having to sort out logistics
The ideal tour if you aren’t one for large groups yet want the ease and convenience of not having to sort out the logistics - while getting the stories and explanations you miss when flying solo. Ardee was not only a knowledgeable and helpful guide, he was also an incredibly safe and patient driver and great company. His passion for the sites and personal stories made it such a richer experience. The sunrise over Borobudur was not only a delightful bonus but an absolute highlight. It was not part of the tour but the tour provider messaged me a few days prior to ask if I wanted to do it. Of course I jumped at the chance. We covered off the major monastery - and visited two minor temples as well - plus a quick jaunt to sample some Kopi Luwak across the road from one of the temples. If you don’t know what that is - google it! We then headed to the Volcano - which was interesting notwithstanding the absence of views due to cloud cover. We saw a home that had been excavated from the ash, got a history of the recent eruptions, took in some lava flows and views as well as the bunker where two Brooke had died during the 2006 eruption. The Jeep I got was old - and questionable from a safety perspective by western standards. Plus it is an open vehicle so you do get wet if it rains. I must admit - I did have some reservations at first - but the driver was very good and spoke good English and quickly put me at ease and the visit was very interesting. Prambanan another beautiful UNESCO heritage listed site was where we ended the day. Not at sunset - but I was trashed already as we started well before sunrise - so I didn’t mind at all. There was the option of some Batik on the way home - but I was exhausted so called it a day. We skipped lunch as I wasn’t hungry - but found a refreshing coconut to replace electrolytes as we were leaving Prambanan. Some things to bear in mind. This is a private tour so effectively what you are paying for is a driver/guide, flexibility - plus breakfast at a restaurant at Borobudur. All entry fees are extra and you should budget an additional $100 or so for those. That said - with a duration of more than 12 hours and the flexibility charm and helpfulness of the guide it’s still great value. Thanks Ardee. You were awesome.

Gorgeous Yogyakarta with excellent tour guide and driver
The wonders of Yogyakarta have impressed us a lot. This tour is incredibly nice and very well organized. Specially if you have the driver Ardi, which is also an excellent guide. He made the car trips very interesting at all moments with lots of interesting data, and was flexible and patient with our needs of taking more photos, eating, etc. You don't fail with this tour of javabali.
