Private Traditional Balinese Cooking Experience and Garden Tour in Ubud
From US$ 52.00
Bali is renowned for its distinctive cuisine and a cooking class is the ideal way to sample traditional Balinese dishes. This private cooking class takes place in a local home, where you can learn the secrets of Balinese home-cooking, create a delicious lunch or dinner with your host, and sit down to enjoy a meal with the family.
What to Expect
Your tour begins with hotel pickup and a private transfer to a village just north of Ubud. Meet your hosts Dewa, Jero, and their family, and set out to explore the village, meet the locals, and visit the fruit orchards and herb gardens. During the tour, learn about the exotic fruits grown in Bali and herbs and spices such as galangal, cloves, cacao, and nutmeg, which are used both for cooking and in traditional medicine.

Arriving at Dewa’s family home, set to work creating an array of typical Balinese dishes, using a traditional wood-fired oven. As your cooking class takes place in a local home not in a professional kitchen, you’ll get to see how real Balinese food is cooked and learn its importance to family life and celebrations.

Make dishes such as pepes Ikan (grilled tuna in banana leaves), bumbu kuning (chicken in a fresh turmeric and coconut milk sauce), and bregedel (hand-ground corn fritters), and pick up plenty of tips and tricks from Dewa. Finally, sit down to enjoy your home-cooked lunch or dinner with the family and experience the famous Balinese hospitality for yourself.

At the end of the meal, you will be transferred back to your Ubud hotel.

Cooking with Dewa far exceeded all expectations. He is a humble, friendly, gracious host that explains so much about Balinese culture as you walk through his village, pick ginger and turmeric from the side of the road. My family of 4 learned more in 5...More
