About
There’s no better time to see the Kintamani Volcano at Mount Batur than during sunrise, when orange light disperses the mist surrounding the mountain. If you’re an active traveler with a good level of fitness, opt for a sunrise hiking tour of the Kintamani Volcano that includes a visit to the summit crater and early morning hotel pickup, something almost impossible to arrange independently. Snacks and refreshments are included, as is a tour of a Balinese coffee plantation.

What a great journey!

Pick-up at 1am (Arya was already in the lobby at 1am waiting for me, first time in 3 month in SE Asia I have a pick up on time!). We picked up 2 ladies on the way and it was on for 2h drive in a very comfortable van with Arya being a very nice company, fun an instructive.
At 3ish in the morning, Kadek, a local guide met us at the bottom of the volcano, and the ascension could start. If you are not use to treks it's HARD 🥵. But we finally made it to the top and enjoyed an AMAZING sunrise. The view is just breathtaking!
Then Kadek showed us the crater and some fun facts around the volcano and we headed back to the parking.
Kadek was a very very patient guide, who took all the time we needed to go up, helping us in the steepest parts. He speaks perfect English and was also a vert pleasant company all the way!
Wish them both all the best in their future and would recommend this tour 1000%

Very well run from the beginning - had easy contact with the tour company confirming estimated pick up time. Ayra (driver) actually arrived early! We then went to the start point and met Kadek who was our local guide. He was both encouraging and funny which is what you need on this difficult hike up (and then back down again!). He ensured we were Safe and looked after without being unnecessarily overbearing which was perfect! All in all a really wonderful trip and would recommend to anyone considering it!

Me and my best friend decided to take on this trip to explore some amazing nature. We got picked up by the most friendly driver (Arya). He was already in the lobby waiting for us. It took a little while driving to the hikepoint but in the meantime Arya told all about the hike.
At the starting point we met our lokal guide (Kadek). I have never met such a nice, patient and sweet guide. My friend was a little scared and he help her all the way up.
I will absolutly recommend this trip. It was really worth it. Really friendly people and amazing nature.

Amazing experience. We were picked up very promptly by our lovely friendly driver. The hike was very enjoyable but harder than we expected - certainly got the blood flowing! Beautiful views. Coffee plant after was a fun experience and we got to try lots of different teas and coffees free of charge. Would highly recommend this tour for anyone coming to Bali.

Booking and payment very very easy via the Trip Advisor App. Communication thereafter was excellent, location for pick up (Nusa Dua) simply shared via Google Maps to avoid any confusion and there you go... Booked on a Tuesday morning, driver at the hotel lobby bang on 1:00am Wednesday!

Thereafter follows an efficient if rather tired trip to the start of the hike. This via Seminyak for another pick up took around 2 hours.

Here you meet your guide and have chance to use the bathroom (functional, but dirty and 2,000 IDR for the pleasure) before your departure.

Armed with your supplied flashlight and mineral water away you go into the night! Guide was excellent, friendly and set a good but manageable pace, stopping when needed but not too long! It’s about a 2 hour walk that becomes slightly more challenging in the second half. Good shoes absolutely required, long trousers (as advised) I’d say were optional as it was warm!

Arriving at the top at around 5am we settled on one of the man made tiers awaiting the sun rise. Within this hour we were brought our breakfast of 2 hard boiled eggs, 2 ketchups, 2 sweet breads and a couple of bananas. Hot drinks provided too for a charge, a lovely coffee provided for 30,000 IDR.

So there you wait the sun rise, watching a plethora of other tired ‘explorers’ arriving behind you. It wasn’t crowded but this experience isn’t a private one...

Plenty of opportunity to grab lots of pictures and learn a little about the volcano, it’s history and some of the local traditions whilst you are there from your guide.

Once the sun is up the monkeys arrive! Hold on to your bananas folks 😊 Following the minor invasion, at your leisure the descent begins. In narrow sections there was a little congestion but generally the guides worked together to keep a sense of space between the masses descending. The descent, despite being in the daylight was probably more treacherous than the flashlight guided ascent... volcanic rock, sometimes solid, sometimes ground into millions of tiny particles presenting themselves as a loose topping providing plenty of trip and mainly slip hazards on the way down... It’s not dangerous by any stretch of the imagination, just be aware that you need to be careful and (as said previously) have sensible shoes on.

We arrived back at the base around 9. The lower section in the daylight was pleasant, following a narrow tarmac road through fields of chillis, onions, tomatoes, egg plant, cauliflower and more.

A short drive to coffee plantation (separate review) and then the battle through the traffic saw us delivered back to our hotel in Nusa Dua some 12hrs 20mins after the call from our driver.

A great experience that for me shall not be repeated. Weariness grew on the drive back as the physical load of a very very early morning took its toll (despite the coffee injection!) and the need to return to a shower and nap overtook any sense of sightseeing enjoyment that could have been gleaned from the return drive.

Without hesitation I would recommend, but if you’re located on the southern / west coast of Bali be prepared for a long day.

As agreed I was picked up at 2 am from the lobby by driver Made. At 4 am we have met our guides (we had two of them) and two couples from another car (group was 9 people) we were given a bottle of water for each person and begun climbing in total darkness with flashlights. It was hard for me as I had the drone, steady cam, extra food and few bottles of water in my backpack. One guide was in the front and another one was in the tail of the group, so we didn't lose anyone and waited for all delaying people during breaks (we had 4-5 breaks in total). It was storming weather with huge wind and rain, so almost all became wet immediately. Guides were very kind and proposed raincoats to everyone.
Finally, at 5:30 am we were on the top of volcano and understood that there is fog all around us (as it was said by the couple from California, it the same whether they have in San Francisco all the time). We were given good lunches and were shown the part of the volcano that is hot enough to fry eggs.
After long way downhill, we have visited a coffee plantation and was shown how cofee is actually growning and prepared for customers.
At 11 am I was in the hotel.

It was a great experience ! The driver Nengah Budi was very friendly he took very good care of me and my partner was on time and took us from Seminyak.

The local guide Wahan sorry for the misspelling was great and full of knowledge.
We decided to have a different view point to enjoy the sunset without the crowd he prepared for us the breakfast and took amazing pictures of us too.

After the hike we enjoy the view and a buffet breakfast on the top of the Mountain.
Highly recommended even so it is an early start.

Driver picked us up at 2:30am and carefully drove to the base. Got lucky with a great local guide who was helpful, especially when climbing down slightly more challenging portions of the mountain. This hike is moderate and a bit challenging; bring proper footwear and a warm fleece (you can rent at the base if you don’t have it on you). It’s doable if you are in good health and have the drive to see an excellent sunrise!
