Nagma lives with her husband, Wasi Haider, and their sons Shiron and Shibab, in a beautiful 3-story bungalow located a 10-minute drive from the Taj Mahal. Step out onto their terrace to view of one of the domes of the Taj Mahal! The family lives on the ground floor of the house and the top two floors are used as a homestay. Nagma is not fluent in English and one of her sons, Shiron or Shibab, will serve as translator during your visit.
Nagma will take you to the kitchen for a demonstration of how she prepares 2-3 dishes in the Muslim Mughlai tradition. Mughlai food is known for its use of mutton (goat), paneer (cheese), and rich spices including cardamom and saffron. Please note that this is a cooking demonstration, not a hands-on cooking class. She will prepare dishes such as shammi kebabs (mincemeat kebabs) and aloo gobi (North Indian potato and cauliflower) or paneer (fresh Indian cheese). You will then enjoy these foods along with other prepared dishes, accompanied by rice and Indian breads.
Please note, this experience is not a professional cooking demonstration, rather it is meant to be a visit into an authentic, local home to meet a local family and share the culture and cuisine together.
