I had a fabulous half day trip with Chotu .
We started by driving through the nature and observing the unique wildlife of the area .
Then we visited the Farmers house where we witness the beautiful Opium ceremony . A beautiful family in a cow dung traditional house.

Chotu explained in details how they lived and the struggles of keeping tradition in the modern time .
I could also ask the family questions via our guide and understand better the details of their life .⁸

We went on to the Pottery makers , which are near by but of totaly different cast (& religion). It is beautiful to witness the co existing & respect of the different traditional tribes & casts in rural Rajhastan and to see how they invite each other to their big wedding ceremones.

The Pottery family was fantastic. We witnessed the Making of the pots and even tried to make one by ourselves. Incredible skill of generations of craft people.
Again our Guide explained in details where the materials come from and where the family sells the potterie.

We then went to visit the Weaving family. Another Incredible craftsman cast of their own .
We witnessed the Unique (to all of India) style of weaving and again got detailed explanations regarding the origin of this disappearing technique and the Incredible amount of time used to manufacture then.

We where invited for lunch at the family house and could try the local Millet bread and local wild vegetables. The food was excellent.

We ended back in Jodhpur by the afternoon.

I hace visited Rajhastan few times already and I am was only interested in the real experiences that are not touristic or made for tourists.

The day was exactly that and the meetings and knowledge where genuine.

Highly recommend to those who wish to see and interact with the real traditional crafts and people of Rajhastan.

Thank you Chotu for a beautiful day

First we went looking for the blackbuck. We saw plenty of these shy creatures, but from a distance. I think we chose the wrong time, 2 pm even on a winter afternoon is way too warm for the animals to be scouring barren land. And there was no water body nearby. Om, our safari guide was chatty, knowledgeable and drove the four- wheel in a manner that was meant to add an element of adventure to the whole exercise. Then we watched the opium ceremony in the Bishnoi village ( Om told us a very interesting story about how the name came about. I always thought it was a community. But apparently an ecologically evolved saint laid down 29 rules to protect the environment. Anybody who practised them became a Bishnoi. Bees in hindi is 20, noi is 9!) The opium ceremony was hilarious, even more so when Om, without batting an eyelid said, we don't eat meat, we don't drink, so opium is our only vice!

We went to the village sculptor and everyone watched shapes magically come alive in his deft hands. Some of us even tried our hand at it.

Then we went to Om's house and had sumptuous dinner of bajre ki roti ( made on chulhas), kadi and cabbage subzi, with of course the famous Rajasthani garlic chilly chutney. Om's brother has been instrumental in the dhurrie makers forming a cooperative so that they have better market access and can command better prices. It was a delightful few hours that we spent doing different things before Om dropped us back at our Airbnb on the outskirts of Jodhpur. Thank you Om, and thank your family for all the hospitality ❤️❤️

If one wants to truly have an immersive Marwar experience, then this tour is a must. Led by Chottaramji and his brother Ashokji, we were picked up from our hotel, and were guided throughout the different activities and culture of Bishnoi community. From spotting blackbucks, peacocks, camels, birds while crusing through the mesmerizing terrain of the countryside, Ashokji had us hooked with different stories about the community and culture of Rajasthan.
My favourite part was watching the demonstration of Durry weaving at Salavas village by Chottaramji himself. And also not to mention the lovely home-cooked rajasthani meal of Baajri roti, Ker sangli and kadhi by the lovely women of the household.
A beautiful experience and a must to do if you are visiting Jodhpur!

We were hosted by Chhotaramji for this tour and this tour was the highlight of our trip . Right from the pick up , to all the Knowledge shared in our journey , the spotting of the black buck family and every possible animal we could see in that area , the visit to the potters house and the demonstration and experience of doing it hands on by ourselves , the durry weaving experience and the most delicious meal that we ate on the trip - everything was just spot on. The experience helped us root back to the different Indian cultures of different states . If you are in Jodhpur , this activity / trip is a MUST do . You will take back only happy memories and lasting experiences .

Picked up at 8 sharp after a confirmation on whatsapp and prompt communication of numbers and rates. Om , Mr.Chottarans brother drove the jeep and took us on a safari for almost an hour and we were able to spot Black Bucks , Antlers, the Bluebull, Peacocks and other birds. Did a stop at the block printers, potters and the Bishnoi village to witness the opium ceremony. Thereafter headed out to the Prajapat home where we were given a demonstration on dhurrie weaving and treated to a great home made lunch. They even obliged by taking us to a sweet shop not on the way to the hotel as we wanted to taste the famed mawa kachori. Surely one of the highlights of my Jodhpur trip and their hospitality was most heartwarming. If you are looking to savour an authentic experience this is surely the one.

The village tour itself is rather quick and a lot of time is spent on the road to and from. Our guide was kind. We found the experience rather interesting but a little too touristy and for that case did not seem very authentic. It seems like the village people do the same thing over and over again for each group of tourists that shows up. However it is good way to support the people. While we did enjoy the experience, I would not say it is mandatory

This is a brilliant experience if you’re in the Jodhpur area! First we went to see some wildlife; we saw wildebeest, gazelles and a big pack of the rare black buck which was so cool and so beautiful! Chhotaram was really knowledgeable about all the animals. Next we saw a traditional opium ceremony which was really cool - not something you see everyday! Then we went to see the pottery made by a family which has been doing it for 400 years! We also got to try doing some pottery ourselves which was really fun. Then Chhotaram took us to his home and showed us the intricate weaving of textiles and told us about the history of the craft which was really interesting. Finally, we had a traditional Rajasthani meal cooked by his family all made from local produce - it tasted amazing!!! If offered, you must try their chilli garlic sauce!! Thank you so much Chhotaram for such a lovely day!

This is truly a wonderful experience! We booked this trip at 22:30 at night and we got an instant response. The next day Chhotaram picked us up at our hotel on the other side of the city right on time. During the trip, he showed us rural India and gave us the opportunity to meet families that live a traditional life on the countryside. He could tell us a lot about the traditions and the meal at his house (prepared by his own family) was delicious. All in all it was a great addition to our trip to Jodhpur! Chhotaram is the best tour guide you could wish for.
