Lalit ji (Lalu) is an exceptional tour guide and our visit to Jaisalmer has become exceptional thanks to him. I had briefed him about what I wanted to see (me being an architect and wife being a fashion designer). He curated the whole tour and the walk for us from this perspective. I had never expected to listen to such in depth insights to the history of Jaisalmer, the kings, the traders, the people. The way Lalit ji explained the concept of architecture and design of the fort, I could compare his knowledge to the best of history and architecture professors !

He is witty, smiling and full of humor which will keep you entertained throughout the trip. He lives inside the fort with his family & he makes you feel at home (i.e. the Jaisalmer fort). Lalit ji is a foody and knows the best places in Jaisalmer to get local snacks. He recommended some kachori and Daal Pakwan which we tried the next day. At the end of the trip he took me to show some amazing under construction havelis in Jaisalmer town (because I had mentioned to him that i was an architect and wanted to see buildings). All of his recommendations were top notch !

I believe those who work hard and love their work should be given due credit and recognition. I would recommend to connect with Lalit ji to every person visiting Jaisalmer and reading this review. I really wish that every city should have one lalu !!

Lalit ji is hands down one of the best guides I have met. He’s a master story teller, super passionate and very articulate. He knows every place and every person (it felt like it) around the fort area in Jaisalmer. For more than 4 hours, he retailed us with stories of Rajput valour, courage, honour and values, while he took us through the nook and crannies of the fort and the gorgeous Jain temples there. I almost felt like I was transported to a period of 600 years ago and I could feel every emotion in the stories he was describing. He talks about every stone and sculpture with the same passion and has immense knowledge, not a single question was unanswered. He was super kind to my parents too and looked after their every comfort. We walked a lot but didn’t even realise it. After a number of stories and countless snacks and jokes, not sure when but Mr. Lalit stopped feeling like our guide but like a part of our family, we invited him to have dinner together and that’s when it hit us that we would be saying good bye to him shortly. This was the best day in Rajasthan and it was solely because of him! Highly highly recommended!

Lalit was a fount of knowledge about Jaisalmer and very friendly. He greatly added to our understanding of the Fort city but best of all he split the walking tour into two parts over two days. I think without him we would certainly not have been able to see many of the fascinating old and new havelis in the city itself with their amazing architecture. He took us on streets where we saw no tourists at all which was quite wonderful. And he will take care to take you to the crowded places early before the rush and avoid tourist traps altogether. He will connect you with reliable shops if you want to buy curios and handicrafts but is not pushy about it. And apart from the tour itself he will give you great advice when it comes to food you must try while in Jaisalmer.

This tour was, without a doubt, one of the biggest highlights of our stay in Jaisalmer. Walking through an ancient city along with an extremely knowledgeable, eloquent and cheerful Lalit ji was truly memorable. A huge learning experience, I would highly recommend this tour with Lalit ji to anyone who wants to know more and deep about the history and lifestyle of one of the few living forts of the world.

The best part of the experience was the narration and explanation of what we were seeing and its relevance to the history of the city. Def recommend the walking tour . Seeing some of the havelis was incredible. (Also , ask him for tips on food and shopping if that is something that interests you )

Lalit brought alive the stories of Jaisalmer and Rajputs for all of us beautifully.

We explored Jaisalmer Fort and nearby places of interest and experienced these through the eyes of a man who calls the place his home and is very passionate about his work as a guide and storyteller.
An excellent experience with a great communicator who is now a friend...would highly recommend him for those looking to visit Jaisalmer.

It was a great experience with Lalu ji. It was great to hear about Jaisalmer from someone who was so proud of the city and the history behind it. He not only introduced us to the history behind the city but also a glimpse at the immense culture in the Jaisalmer society.

We had travelled around the city before by ourselves but he showed us the real Jaisalmer. He took us for walks through the popular touristy places and also the off beat areas which were probably even more fascinating. He even suggested great Indian Mithais to take home for our family. He tailored the trip according to our taste and his stories were even more fascinating than the city (which is saying something). There was not a dull moment.

Would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to explore the real Jaisalmer. A very friendly, memorable experience for sure!
Anyone who has half a day free in Jaisalmer, I would really suggest that you approach Lalu ji for a great Jaisalmer experience.

Lalit was the best guide we could ask for! He arranged and organised our whole Rajasthani trip: from Udaipur, to Jaisalmer and finally Jaipur. Transportation, trains and guides on each city, he took care of everything in detail.

We finally met in Jaisalmer. He is such a compelling storyteller - especially since he is a local from Jaisalmer. He took us around the Fort city, pointing out all the small details, beyond the main tourist attractions. He even showed us where his house is :)

Lalit’s passion is his city and its culture , and you can tell! I cannot recommend him enough to everyone.

Lalu is an enthusiastic guide to the history and architecture of the ancient fort. He was generous with his knowledge and time, and showed great concern to our well being, even accompanying us back to our guest house and keeping tabs on us while we were on Camel Safari. We felt cared for like friends visiting, he even invited us into his cozy home to meet his family. Lalu was considerate and helpful throughout, and we were grateful for his suggestions and advise.

The walk was very informative and insightful, he gave us a good background and history of the places we walked to, and gave us ample opportunity to take photos and shop! We enjoyed listening to his take on his culture and traditions and of course of his beloved Jaisalmer.

I highly recommend engaging Lalu as your guide in Jaisalmer, you won't regret it!
