You will be picked up from your hotel in the morning for the 2-hour drive to the town of Thuckalay that is about 40 miles from Thiruvananthapuram. The Padmanabhapuram Palace is about 15 minutes drive from Thuckalay. Visit the King’s Council Chamber and the Queen Mother’s palace with its painted ceiling, best halls of this large palace complex. You will also see a musical bow of mahogany, windows of colored mica, royal chairs with intricate carvings brought from the Far East and hanging brass lanterns. The palace has a stone bed that remains cool in the summer. Another wooden bed is made of 65 different kinds of herbs and is believed to have medicinal properties. There is also a museum on the grounds of the palace complex. The museum has pieces of furniture, wooden and stone statues, coins, weapons and utensils on display. At the end of the tour, enjoy lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant. After lunch you will be driven back to Thiruvananthapuram and dropped off at your hotel.

        Well worth it!
We partook in the evening cookery class with Mr Singh and his chef. This was a highlight of our trip and our teenage son was really looking forward to this experience. We first set off to the vegetable and spice markets so learn about the foods used in our dishes and where they came from, negotiating the Jaipur traffic which was an experience in itself! We then took a short Tuk Tuk ride back to the homestay, where we cooked up dishes and then partook in a meal of our dishes. This was a really insightful and pleasant evening which we enjoyed immensely.

        Unimaginable structures and systems
The views and the structure was amazing and jaw dropping. 112 feet shiva Statue is one of the 8 wonders in terms of tallest structures and top 2 amongst Asia. Beware of the crowds and avoid going during Purnima or deepa deewali or Kartik Deepa festival season It was flooded with people coming from all over India for preparing for malai

        Indulgent high tea
Best high tea ever! Great way to while away your last few hours in Delhi before getting the overnight train. There are hot and cold savoury options as well as at least 20 cakes to choose. It’s served buffet style.

        Review of RumFish
We went to Rum Fish and the food was excellent, even though the menu was limited due to the Hurricane. Patrick our server was great along with the other staff. They thanked us numerous times for coming in.

        Scam!
This tour is grossly overpriced and I am requesting a partial refund. The mangrove is nothing but a tourist trap with no wildlife and polluted water. The guide had very basic English and didn’t have much to say at all. It was a long and boring day not to mention a complete rip off. The only good part is the temple. You can easily take a Uber there for very little money. I am not only disappointed but outraged at the cost.

It was a good experience looking at the sprawling palace where the royal kings of Travancore and their families lived for centuries. Right from a spoon to the giant elephant( made from the real skin of the elephant) it is purely the royal family's personal affairs. I wondered how those kings rolling literally on heaps of gold and wealth could live such a life of royalty and luxury when thousands of their citizens were struggling to get even one meal a day. Whatever was kept in the palace boasts of the royal family's richness, the carefully made wood cravings, and imported porcelain vessels from China which only conveys how selfish the kings were. Had the kings utilized some of the golden ornaments, worth a trillion US dollars today, stashed inside its treasury, many poor people who lived in the Travancore region could have had a few more hearty meals and may be a shade better life.
