About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- francesrC9089GI0 contributionsPeaceful and calming trip. The peaceful trip on the water was the highlight of my visit to Cochin. Lots of birds and plants to see. We were able to go into the narrow waters of the estuary and see lots of interesting things going on. I even had a turn to pole the boat! At the end of water tour, we visited a woman who spun coconut coir into rope and made woven mats. Her demonstrations were interesting. Lunch back at the start consisted of lots of delicious local foods to try. The only downside was the trash in the water. The guide was able to share his knowledge of the area.Written 2 March 2025
- 933tonym0 contributionsBackwater Boat TourThe Backwater Boat trip was very good even if not quite the type of backwater that I had expected - Houseboats themselves were very good as were their staff and the Lunch provided - It was a long drive to get there over two and a half hours although coming back we seemed to take a quicker route and back to the port in plenty of time - The two Tour guides with us were also very good and informativeWritten 26 February 2025
- Inspire420509326030 contributionsScenic Munnar tea plantationThis was an amazing trip to the very scenic Munnar tea plantation and areas along the way. Our guide Shastri was very friendly and knowledgeable and the driver, very skilled to negotiate the traffic, winding roads and rough roads at time. We enjoyed all aspects of the tour, including the food stops for breakfast and lunch organised by Shastri. Be prepared for a very long but rewarding day. Highly recommended.Written 16 February 2025
- ZoeSurrey0 contributionsGentle punt down the river and good lunch with helpful guide.Wonderfully lazy punt down a beautiful river with a quick visit to see coir rope being handmade and palm leaf matting for roofs, followed by a good lunch served on a banana leaf.Written 7 February 2025
- Inspire420509326030 contributionsBalm for the soulIt was so very peaceful and allowed a quiet view of life on the water as people fished, trawled for clams, washed clothes, transported goods on handcarved wooden boats. Meanwhile birdlife was in abundance including stunning azure coloured kingfishers, egrets, heron, stilts, brahminy kites and more. Arathi was a wonderful and very knowledgeable guide.Written 30 January 2025
- helenmF7168RZ0 contributionsFabulous and memorableThis was the highlight of our holiday. Our guide Arathy was so friendly and knowledgeable, patiently answering all our questions. The beauty, peace and tranquillity of the trip was magical, and the traditional veg banana leaf meal was really delicious. It was also special to visit a village and see some traditional skills. Thank you!Written 28 January 2025
- ipzAmi3130 contributionsexcellentKerala, December 2024: Backwaters, misty hills, and breathtaking sunsets. Nature’s magic at its best—serene, stunning, unforgettable.Written 10 January 2025
- 196roshanp0 contributionsGood experienceThe tour and the food were phenomenal. Our tour guide Arithy easily gets 5 stars. She was very knowledgeable about the birds we were hearing/seeing, the plants around us, and life in Kerala. She is a native of the village, and she was a great conversationalist. The vegetarian lunch was out of this world. The food is made by a local cook from the village and incredibly tasty. The host of the lunch was also very kind and told us a lot about the food we were eating. Very relaxing and informative experience overall. The only reason I give this review 4 instead of 5 stars is that the booking company, Carnival, had some miscommunication (over a rescheduled bank holiday) because of differences in English over WhatsApp messaging. We cleared it up once we talked on the phone with the company.Written 4 January 2025
- TamarTiger0 contributionsFishing nets are a must see.Well worth a visit. Cochin is a charming place. The fishing nets are a must see. You do have to barter with the tuk tuk drivers at the port, aim to pay no more than half of the first price. Bear in mind that the driver’s main aim will be to get you to shops that give him “commission “. Be firm if that’s not your idea of sightseeing. Like the rest of India, it is filthy, which is so sad in such a beautiful country.Written 2 January 2025
- dp64750 contributionsAmazing exxperienceAmazing experience. Boat navigator and guide were professional. Yummy delicious keralite food. Private car driver Mr. Lalit is excellent. Overall fiver start exxperience.Written 26 December 2024
- susansZ6724FT0 contributionsWould not go againIt was a bit too long, the guide did not give us information about the scenery, most of the time we had to ask questions and she would answerWritten 24 December 2024
- Anabela M0 contributionsRelax, tech detox and back to natureA very relaxing way to enjoy the backwaters of Kerala if you do not have the time to go on a houseboat journey. The canal afternoon with Kerala vegetarian lunch was such a unique experience. We saw the versatile way the coconut has been used in a local village from stringing coconut hemp cord to making coconut leaf roof and, making coconut broom sticks. Seeing the simple way of life reminds us to cherish nature. It is very relaxing and educational even for a iPad loving 6-yr old. Gladly recommend this for families who need a tech time out afternoon.Written 23 December 2024
- Isabella W0 contributionsTranquil and friendlyA wonderful experience, the operator was communicative and organised, the transfer and programme smooth. The route the boat took was lovely and quiet, and the guide gave interesting information about the local wildlife and culture. It was great to watch coconut husk rope making and palm leaf weaving too. Lunch was fun too!Written 20 December 2024
- m_a_t_t_r1985uk0 contributionsLovely Backwater TripWe booked this trip after reading all the great reviews on trip advisor. We had a fantastic day out. Very relaxing to be on the backwaters and lovely to see how they use the coconut shells for making rope. The tour was topped off with a lovely keralan lunch.Written 16 December 2024

Kochi Backwater Day Cruise , this is a must if UR visiting with a stay in Kochi . The boat jetty is just past the Lakeshore Hospital at the end of the road . U have to book it at least 2 days ahead . Mr Panicker is a very pleasant gentleman very keen to please U. Raji the boat driver / guide was also happy to please U. The motor boat is a 8 seater with shaded areas , They provide U with life jackets and provide a printed instruction card as to how to wear it and what to do in case of an emergency . There is a fire extinguisher on board as well . The chairs have cushions and very comfortable . Because of slow tourist visits due to Covid their business has been scaled down . They use to provide a onboard kitchen for lunch this was also summer time so that was not offered , bottled water is available and there is a clean toilet at the jetty but not on board . The tour price person or group is quite reasonable, for the 3 hour tour . They stop on different islands in the back waters , at fisherman’s homes and , fishery farms . If U want to buy fresh fish , make sure U bring plastic bags . Wear a hat and make sure U have Sun screen . There is a nice breeze when the boat is moving , but being April it can be hot . We bought some fresh River fish and clams from the fisherman . Different migratory birds in plenty are seen in December to February. We saw some Siberian Cranes who come to feed on the clams . Best to bring glasses for bird watching . The mangroves are beautiful to see . Fisherman ‘s homes are simple & practical . They have to use a boat to come to the mainland . They have electricity and running clean tap water . The fisherman R very friendly . Bring UR camera . Yes I would definitely do this again on my next visit to Kochi , hopefully in winter for bird watching .

My family and I recently had a great experience doing our week-long trip to Kerala with Peter and Carnival tour and travels. Peter was responsible for the entire tour airport to airport, including local siteseeing in Fort Kochi, backwater boat ride and lunch near Allepey and touring Thekkady and finally dropping us off in Trivandrum. Peter was great at sharing tour options, booking us the best seats for Kathakali and Kalari shows, and sending us well-informed guides. All gyudes spoke good English. Our driver, Martin Pramod, was great. He stayed with us throughout our week in Kerala and gave us lots of good suggestions for local restaurants and shopping. Would really recommend Peter and Carnival tour!

Planning a 6 day private tour of Kerala I needed to find a driver. Trip advisor came up trumps with Ramesh. He was delightful. Always prompt, polite and has excellent English. His driving was exemplary. He also was very knowledgeable about the area and the sights he took us to. Very easy company over the 6 days. Plus an added bonus he has an excellent singing voice and will sing traditional Indian songs, but only on request. I thoroughly recommend him for your trip. Contact Ramesh.790@rediffmail.com

We were picked up from the cruise port by Santhosh who expertly drove us to Aleppey.
Upon arrival we met Dinesh who was our guide for the day. We loved having the private houseboat for our party of 4. It was a beautiful time gliding along the river seeing how people live and make a living.
We learned about the customs of this area and what life is like for the farmers and fishermen. Dinesh shared so much for us - even pointing out his home when we went by. He was an incredible guide.
On board we were served a traditional lunch and then taken back to Cochin at the end.
A superb day in the countryside. Such a different side to see from the busyness of the city.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this trip with Carnival tours. From the pick up at the hotel to the drop off the staff was exceptional. Everyone spoke English and accommodated our every need.
The backwaters are beautiful. So serene and picturesque. Meandering through villages on the narrow canals immediately puts you in a different space from busy Kochi.

I was met at my hotel by Sando, my English speaking guide for the day. Our driver, Mejo was stuck in traffic, so we took a tuk tuk to meet the driver in order to stay on schedule. At the dock, we completed the paperwork then took a water taxi to the beautiful houseboat. I was traveling solo but felt very comfortable all throughout the day, chatting with Sando. On board the 3 crew introduced themselves and made me feel at home. The cruise is beautiful through the backwaters, passing homes where life on the water is seen first hand - fishing, swimming, washing clothes, bathing and fields of rice during harvest season. Saw many species of birds. Some of the travel is on the open water out in the bay also. Lunch was delicious and so much food. There were many choices, all very delicious. The cook even offered to show us how to make one of the tomato dishes that was great and something even I could make at home. Yes, I even got a private cooking lesson in the galley. So enjoyable, the day went by so very quickly.
Yes, it's expensive for one person, and with the added expense for an English speaking guide, but it's a once in a lifetime experience that should not be passed up. I loved every minute of it. That evening when I was dropped off at my hotel I felt that the day could have not been more perfect.
