- johneO184LT0 contributionsAmazing Burning BushI want to say thank you to Ahmed and his team. My family (4 adults) had an amazing trip to St. Catherine's. They worked around a scheduling issue so we could see this great place. Ahmed had a plan so we could stop and stretch our legs on the ride over. His knowledge was excellent and how he shared information kept us listening. The burning bush and that whole area is full of biblical history. I have told and retold the story of our families trip to St. Catherine's. Don't forget to get some water from the well of Moses when you visit.Written 16 October 2024
- S8CWR0 contributionsBoat tripWe booked the trip with a private company for £100 for a family of 4. Upon arrival at the bay, we had to sit in a very busy waiting area before boarding. There was plenty of space on the boat, and it wasn't overcrowded. We sailed for about 1 hour to the beautiful white island, you need to swim from your boat, it can get a bit rough, the guides offer liferings and life jackets if needed. We then got back on the boat and sailed to spot near the many reefs, we chose to snorkel only, I wish we had paid the £20 to scuba. A guide took us around the coral. It was superb. The onboard food was okay. Free soft drinks and tea & coffee are provided. The crew were very helpful. The sail back to shore felt like it took a while. A very good day that I would 100% recommendWritten 12 August 2024
- nneomao3460 contributionsEfficient, comfortable and enjoyable tour experience with Ahmed of Authentic Egypt & Pyramid immersion tourI had an enjoyable and memorable tour to St Catherine Monastery. I was part of a group of 10. The tour included stops at the Monastery store and the city of Dahab for lunch in a traditional restaurant by the Red Sea. Lunch was basic, the restaurant location was lovely but I didn't like that there were cats in the restaurant. Some guests liked and fed and pet the cats. The pick up and drop off was on schedule from my resort in Sharm El Sheikh. The weather was cool and I was glad to have been advised to have a wrap or light jacket with me. It was a long drive to and fro through the mountainous desert region therfore, I was glad that the vehicle was comfortable and air-conditioned to avoid the dust. The tour guide and driver were knowledgeable, multilingual and friendly so that they doubled as my photographers during the trip. The guide provided valuable information about the Monastery, the story of St. Catherine, the mountains in the region, biblical and cultural accounts of Moses's sojourn and other landmarks of the Sinai desert region. It made the history come alive. Note that this tour does not get you to climb Mt Sinai. Ahmed the owner of the tour company checked in often via text messages to make sure I was enjoying the trip and after I was dropped off, which I appreciated. It made me book other tours with his company when I continued my vacation in Cairo. I also found out that Ahmed is able to customize tours to fit ones interest, budget and time. I recommend this company for this and other tours in Egypt.Written 4 January 2024
- 306ianw0 contributionsVery poorly maintained quad bikes! This is a pretty cheap half day out and was good fun for the most part. The food was fine, the camels fun (although a very brief walk of about 50 yards for a photo op and a request for tips) and the entertainment pretty good. HOWEVER, the standard of the quad bikes was lamentable. No crash helmets were offered, the bike was clearly labelled as only for 1 person and all 4 tyres were completely bald. However I'd been told by a previous guest that we wouldn't be going far and at low speed, so we went along. This was a mistake as I soon discovered that only one of the brakes worked, so I had to use engine braking and leave a decent gap from the bike in front, however the 'guide' kept shouting for me to close up and couldn't understand me when I tried to say that there was only one brake. He just kept miming for me to use both levers. Eventually I did run into the back of the bike in front and had another near miss when the bike simply failed to stop. When we returned in the dark, the lights cut out meaning that the bikes behind nearly hit us. The guide starting shouting quite aggressively, saying 'no touch' and pointing at the light switch, which me hand was nowhere near. He messed with the switch and the light came on, only to go off again and a repeat of the 'no touch' shouting match. At this point I told him that the bike was dangerous and a piece of junk in no uncertain terms. He then sat and sulked for about a minute before we carried on. When we got back to base, the same guide was shouting for me to weave through people walking in front, but the bike was stuck in soft sand and with 4 bald tyres just wouldn't move. He pushed me out of the hole towards people walking and then the engine just cut out. I walked away at this point and left the bike where it was. Just for the record, I am used to motorcycles and owned a 600cc bike. My advice is to expect a 20-30 MPH ride for 40-50 minutes over rough terrain. It is quite a buzz, but check the bike as much as you can (tyres, lights and brakes and stand your ground if it looks faulty. None of these bikes are new, they have had a hard life and the staff are more interested in selling you goggles, videos and photographs than your safety. If in doubt, don't go on this excursion and certainly not with children.Written 10 February 2023
