Exceptional service with pick up from hotel on time.
The Cambodia Journey team has been extremely available as we booked very last minute (day before).
Our guide (Pi) has made our tour extremely pleasant. His knowledge of the temples and Khmer history is impressive. He kept the tour fun and engaging from start to finish and answered all of our questions. And took some amazing pictures of us!
Our driver was always available and fresh water provided after every stop.

Very recommended!
Definitely a must-do experience with the Cambodia Journey team!

We rose early to get to Angkor Wat by 5.30am - sunrise is about 6.15am. Remember to pack loads of anti-bug spray and apply to oneself liberally - at that time in the morning dark, the place is crawling (literally!). We took position outside the moat to get images of the temple reflected in the water (the classic photo shot), while other tourists went over the causeway into the complex itself - did they know something we did not?.... Apparently so, because as the first rays of the sun started to appear, it became clear that the classic photo shot would be difficult to achieve, as you would be shooting right into the sun. The best images you could expect to get were black outline silhouettes and the water reflection images. My top tip - for the best photos, visit Angkor in the afternoon rather than dawn, when the sun is behind you, and the warm golden light illuminates all the buildings beautifully - that's the classic photo. Otherwise like me, you will end up slightly disappointed. That said, Angkor is a fantastic site to visit. Make sure you have a guide to explain the incredible bas-relief carvings everywhere. You can still climb up to the main central stupa, but be very careful if you do - the steps are quite steep! Another top tip - arrange your visit in the order Bayon (from the South gate) , Ta Prohm & & Angkor Thom in the morning; with Angkor Wat in the afternoon. That way you will get to see all the main temples and ruins in the best light and with sufficient time.

I would highly recommend this tour. There was and early morning pick up at everyone's hotels, b&b's etc. and then from there we went to the ticket office to buy a pass for the temples. There are a few options available and Sam our guide explained what was best depending on time you have in the area and if you were hoping to visit more temples on your own at later date.
Once we had tickets we headed to Angkor Wat and Sam explained some of the history and told us we were free to wonder around but to meet him at a set time ready for sun rise. He also explained the perfect spot to stand and line up the sun with the central tower of the temple.
From here we were give a tour and told some information on the history of the temple, surrounding area, and construction as well as religious stories that were carved on the gallery walls. We were also given the opportunity to head up to the top gallery. There were a few steep steps and it was already getting warm by this point but it is worth it. Once at the top there were great views of the grounds, more shrines and there was also a monk blessing people.
We then went and had breakfast not to far from the temple (it had air con too). There were Western and traditional options to try and there were no complaints from anyone. Some of the group brought their own breakfast from the hotel and they were fine to eat that in the restaurant too.
From there we took in Ta Prohm and then went on to the Bayon Gate and Bayon Temple.
Sam explained everything to us and answered all the questions that were thrown at him. He also knew the best photo spots and was happy to take photos of the group. There was cold water handed out every time we got on or off the bus (also air conditioned) and they made sure we were all happy and comfortable.

100% book this excursion if you want to not only see the temples, but get the best photo opportunities and learn about the temples history too.

Thanks Sam :)

Mr Sakriya was an amazing tour guide. He knew where to go to line up the sunrise with Angkor Wat's central spire. Knew a great spot to grab pictures at the reflecting pond. And you could tell he definitely wanted everyone to have a great time.

One piece of advice for the tour company though: don't recommend people pack a breakfast at 4am, and say we'll eat it sunrise at 6am, but then leave them in the car 'til 9am in the hot Cambodian sun. Wound up hungry and un-caffeinated all morning (didn't eat beforehand, because the tour company specifically tells you to pack your breakfast and bring it along) while my food spoiled in the van somewhere else. Like, if we can't eat at sunrise don't tell us we can. Tell us we can't so we can eat beforehand and those of us who are coffee addicts can get our fix beforehand too.

Still 5/5 though, because it was an amazing time even on an empty stomach and the tour guide was awesome.

This day trip was perfect for our time in Siem Reap. We started at sunrise (the actual sunrise that day was underwhelming and there were many loud tourists, but of course this is out of the guide's control) and then visited all the highlights - Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm and Bayon Temple. We stopped for a nice breakfast as well. Our guide provided helpful information about each sight and spoke excellent English. The van we rode around in was comfortable, air conditioned and the driver provided water and cool towels. I would highly recommend this tour!
