Go! Ride a bike! Be adventurous!
I thoroughly enjoyed my bike tour. We saw temples and locations I hadn’t seen even after living in Mandalay for 5 months! Our guide was knowledgeable and cognizant of out physical abilities. After our tour I frequented several of the tour stops the following 5 months in Mandalay.

Best way (for me) to experience Lake Inle
I took the tour today and it is absolutely worth the money! The bikes are in very good shape, the group was veeery small (aka only me and Sam, the guide), the food is good and plenty and we spent more than nine hours on and around the lake. We went through villages, different landscapes, where invited for tea and escaped the loud motor boats on the lake for a bit. Sam knows people everywhere, he explains a lot and I think he can really adapt the tour to the biking skills of his guests. Still, I think it helps if you're a secure rider, feeling confident crossing some smaller bridges etc - but absolutely not necessary to have any specific mountainbiking skills. To me, this was a perfect day around the lake, a lot more impressive and memorable than the "classic" Inle motorboat tour (that I did the day before).

Perfect day trip around Inle Lake
If you like a bit of adventure and most of all getting away from other tourists then take this tour! My guide Sam was great, answering all of my questions, showing me the best photo spots, introducing me to locals and translating. The bike trip is really fun, but you should be comfortable riding a mountain bike and have same basic skills - trails and bridges are narrow, that’s what makes it even more fun! Food was great, the Kajak tour a chilled ending to the tour. Sam even arranged for the boat to have me dropped off at my hotel. Highly recommended!

      Mandalay Morning and Sunset Tours
We did both the morning and sunset tours in Mandalay. In the morning, Than Htike Aung took us out to the market where we snacked on some delicious local food before heading out to the coutryside. It was quite a hot ride with little shade. The countryside was still mostly on the main bitumen roads so it wasn't so much the scenery that captivated us, as much as the workshops and seeing the traditional ways people continue to process goods. Than was a great, friendly and cheerful guide. He always checked up on us and gave information as we were cycling. In the afternoon tour, the van dropped us off out of town before we started cycling. We were very lucky to see one of the novice processions with children on horses, cows, and even an elephant! Wai Linn Aung was our guide for this segment as we cycled through the ancient city of Inwa. We stopped at some traditional family homes and he would explain how the families conduct their trade. It was an interesting, relaxing and shady ride while we visited the less touristy sites of Inwa and wound our way to Ubein bridge for a sunset boat ride. For both Mandalay tours the paths were easy to cycle and all relatively flat. However, the afternoon ride was a bit more pleasant as there was more shade and scenice views throughout. Surprisingly, there was no overlap between the morning and afternoon tours so they were equally interesting and definitely not touristy (besides the sunset boat ride at Ubein bridge). Would highly recommend a cycle with Grasshoppers. Two tours in a day was quite tiring though. If I were to choose only one, the afternoon was more enjoyable.

      Half day, sunset bike ride
I deliberated before booking this as it seemed a little pricey compared to other experiences I've done in Asia. However, we booked it based on the glowing reviews on here and I'm so glad we did. Our guide Wai Linn Aung was a total pro. Giving us info on the local villages, and accommodating our request to stop for some food. He led us through beautiful countryside and villages which really felt off the beaten track. People greeted us warmly and talked us through their local trades. The tour ended with beers on a boat watching sunset over U Bein bridge. Great bikes too!

A deferent way to see Mandalay
A great way to get out of the city and see the lovely countryside surrounding Mandalay. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable, and we really enjoyed our time chatting with him. The visits to local farms and tea houses were the highlights.

Cycied from Mandalay to Bagan, Then from Bagan to Salay with Grasshopper.
A fantastic experience. We have cycled most Countries in Asia and this was by far one of the best. Beautiful and interesting. Our guide YeYe was fantastic. He was fun, full of knowledge and extremely attentive. The ride from Mandalay, stopping at Mt Popa and ending with a full afternoon cycle around Bagan was awesome. I would suggest everyone ride a bicycle around Bagan. It is the right tempo to really absorb the magic of the place. The ride to Salay was wonderful too. Learned so much about Village industry and life. I would highly recommend both Trips. In fact I would highly recommend seeking out Ye Ye as your guide when in Bagan.

      See Absolutely Awesome from Climber
To add to my husbands comments- it was a wonderful and a truely authentic experience. The tour guide, named Sam, was great.👍 Sam explained everything and answered any question we had. He made our day perfect as we biked, boated, snacked, lunched and kayaked our way through the many sights, sounds and tastes around Inle Lake. From tea with the locals, snack village, lunch in a stilt house to a gentle bike ride seeing village life. There is too much to mention. Awesome pic. 👍❤️

      Absolutely Awesome!
Our guide was Sam, he was knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. He gave us advise on what to expect and how the day would go and any safety issues to be aware of. Sam did a fantastic job guiding us and he is perfectly suited to the job. The whole day of cycling, boating and kayaking was just excellent. Traditional lunch in one of the stilted properties in one of the many villages on the lake Lots of drinks and snacks along the way and interacting with the locals. It was worth every cent and I recommend this experience, I can’t speak highly enough of the day as there is so much to see and explore!

      Half day bike tour
EXCELLENT! The guide was amazingly professional - 10 points out od 10: knowledgable, caring (the road was not always easy, full of deep sand and holes) and fun. He took me to a few gorgeous temples and shared very interesting historical facts related to the landmarks during our tour. His knowledge was impressive and he was able to answer every question! He took very good care of me (snack and lunch breaks were provided by the agency and the food was delicious) and set the pace so that I could easily catch up with him without gasping for breath. Water and a very comfortable bike was provided as well. The only downside was that when I arrived at the meeting point at the agreed time 7:45 AM no one was there - the agency was closed and I had to reach out to the ops manager myself and ask if it was cancelled or what else was happening. No big deal, don't mind starting later but it would have been nice if such things were communicated in advance by the agency, so that I didn't need to wait or wonder. The guide appeared after 15-20 minutes and we took off (the earlier tour stretched a bit). And since then, it was great. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO EVERYONE, GROUPS, COUPLES AND SOLO TRAVELLERS!!! :)

      fine tour - bad preparation
We had a great tour with our guide San. It was very interesting to meet and hear about the farmers and villagers and cycle in the countryside. Highly recommended. It was also my second trip booked via tripadvisor. Unfortunately when I had booked the tour, it didn't inform about where to meet. It just said Mandalay - so I had to contact Grasshopper via Whatsapp to get the specific dates.

      Never Disappointed with Grasshopper
This was our third trip with Grasshopper, and we’ve never been disappointed. The quality of the experience, condition of the equipment and the service of the friendly guides has always been top notch. On this particular trip Zay Yar and Aung guided us to local villages and through a bamboo forest. There were 2 connections by boat. The “snack” and lunch stops were delicious. And we ended the day with a kayak tour of Nam Pan. The trip was exactly as described - no surprises. The only additional comment I would make is that while the ride was flat and not particularly technical, your child should be comfortable riding a mountain and navigating a single track.

Amazing 12 day biking in Myanmar
I felt like I had time transported back in time when my husband and I visited Myanmar for a bike trip. Most people wear traditional dress and are so nice. We would be biking along and someone driving an ox cart would cross our path. Scooters with a family of three or four were ubiquitious. And the cry of "Mingleabba" (Burmese for Hello) was constant welcoming us as we biked through this country. We biked along the paths and roads along Inle Lake, in the Shan Hills, and near Mandalay and Bagan and saw amazing countryside. Our guide Phyo made sure we really got to experience his country. He knew so many people and places off the beaten path and we got to see how people really live and work. One highlight was visiting an elephant preserve near Kalaw and getting to feed, bathe a learn about elephants retired / rescued from the timber industry. It was something I will never forget. Another highlight was getting up early to bike through the temples of Bagan and see the balloons rise. Grasshopper also finds these hotels that give you western style comfort with a local flavor. We absolutely loved this trip and Myanmar will forever be in my heart.

Mandalay to Bagan 3 day tour
Hlaing Phyo Oo was our fabulous guide for 3 days whilst Cycling from Mandalay to Bagan, and he really made it special for us. The scenery is beautiful from start to finish. We visited many different historical, religious sites, and areas of beautiful terrain. The bikes were top notch and we had Mr Tu with support vehicle on hand at all times, always there with delicious local snacks when we were tired from the Cycling. It’s not an easy ride on the 2nd day, 84km and a lot uphill, but Phyo’s patience and humour made us enjoy it all the more. His English is fantastic too, so he kept us informed about everything we were seeing. There really is no better way to see this beautiful country. I’d do it all again in a heartbeat. If you are reading this contemplating if the tour is worth it, just do it. You will not regret it!! Thank you so much Grasshopper Adventures for being the best! Can’t wait for our next trip with you. We thoroughly enjoyed our Ava and U Bien Sunset bike riding tour with our awesome guide, Sai.
We did the tour in late April and the temperatures were very hot, 40+, and we are 2 50+ Aussies unused to the heat and humidity, but the tour was a great mix of flat (and sometimes shady) cycling mainly on back roads, tracks and village streets, and well-timed stops to visit local attractions and home industries (bamboo weaving, alm bowl making, cigarette making, mechanical and manual loom weaving).
The tour was perfectly timed to finish at U Bien bridge for the sunset, and had plenty of stops for drinks and photos.
Sai was a fount of information and his English was very good.
The bikes were in very good condition, and the whole experience was one that we would highly recommend.

I ended up not being able to go on this tour as I had come down with something. So my friend was taken alone. So this is his experience
“Lots of interesting stops along the way, beautiful sunset boat. The cycling was tough in parts, but this was probably due to my own personal fitness! Sadly I couldn’t do the last 9km but they got the minibus to pick me up for the last bit. The guide was super helpful and informative. Even calling his wife (a nurse) for advise on some medicine for my friend! Which he then picked up on the way back. Hlaing Phyo Oo really made the journey for me. Thank you!”

This tour was very well organized. I was picked up at my hotel and we drove out of the city before we got on our bikes. The bikes were in good shape with all the gears working. We also were given helmets. There was a crew available to fix anything as well as set up a snack for us 2/3 in. We had a guide in front and a guide in back making sure we were all set. There was a family in our group and they even had a great add on for their 5 year old. I hadn’t been on a bicycle in a couple of years but it was still a great ride that ended on a boat overlooking UBein bridge at sunset. Feel great to combine some exercise into my travels.

I got picked up at the hotel, they were on time. I was alone so I got a private tour.

My tour guide was amazing. He knows a lot about the villages and if you ask you can also stop next to the road and ask some questions. My guide was Hlaing if you get him as your guide, you are definitely lucky.

I next time I book a tour I will definitely book it again at grasshoppers.

    Feb 2018 • Family
We are a family of 4 with 2 girls age 8 and 13 and we have had some absolutely unforgettable one day trips with Grasshopper in Myanmar.
We were in Myanmar for a month in February 2018 and we took the 4 trips: The Ava & U bein Sunset Tour, The Bagan Bike Boat sunset tour, The Inle Bike Boat and Kayak tour and a Mandalay Tea shop Foodie tour that I believe has been taken of the programme.
All tours were amazing and we highly recommend both the routes, the guides, the bikes and all the little stops and experiences that Grasshopper has put into the program so it does not get too monotonous.
We are not a typical cycling family, but we know from previous trips to different parts of Asia that it is on the bike rides and the tiny roads and villages that you get the best experiences and the best meetings with the locals.
We were a bit nervous about whether it would be too hard for our youngest girl (8 years), but it was not at all and the guides are so sweet to take into account and do everything at the best pace.
All of the tours were fantastic, but the Inle Bike Boat and Kayak tour was something special because it also included boat trips and a solo kayak trip around a fantastic little village on poles.
There is not a single negative thing we can mention on any of the tours and I would strongly recommend anyone who wants to experience the real Myanmar to contact Grasshopper, which by the way was also amazing to provide advice and guidance on which routes and tours that suited the best for our needs.
We are going to Sri Lanka this winter and are already planning a trip with Grasshopper. Thanks to Steve for all your help and thanks to all the fantastic guides.
Best Regards The Houlberg Family from Denmark

The tour was very interesting, picked up the hotel by a driver and thanh my guide (there was only me) we drive for around 45 minutes and then cycled for 10ks through villages seeing hay being bought it and lots of rural life plus oodles of temples. Thanh was a fount of knowledge and explained both the history and some idiosyncratic details ie the little piles of bricks which people leave to count how many times they have been to the temple (this was the "ruin" that was the meditation temple) - much preferred to Angkor Watt as all were smaller and much more peaceful with few tourists around. Then a brief ferry trip across a river and brief refreshment stop and then off to the touristy site of the U bein bridge which was still nice and although not much of a sunset it was still lovely when we went out onto the water - plus a beer! Thoroughly enjoyed and cannot rate highly enough
