Rozafa Castle Sunset Tour
From US$ 17.29
Located a few miles south of Shkodër, Rozafa Castle is a culturally significant ruin site with uninterrupted views over the nearby Lake Skadar. Save yourself the time spent walking to the ruin and catch a ride to the Castle for an early evening tour of the ruins while the sun sets over Albania. Get stunning photos of the Albanian countryside and learn from your guide about the history and legends attached to the site.
What to Expect
Starting point at Shega e Eger bar in Street Gjuhadol, Shkoder.
18:00 Depart from meeting point: 15 minutes to the Castle
18:30 Explore the Castle: 1 ½ hours
Our guide will take you through the history of Rozafa Castle and as you walk through ancient grounds of the citadel, you will go back in time to the IV-V century BC where shadowed mythology merge with history to create the identity of the modern Albanian people.
We will also talk about the 18th century Lead Mosque (unique in style for mosques) which is paradoxically a symbol of centuries of Turkish and Islamic influence as well as a signpost of the more modern communist presence. The Lead Mosque was one of the few religious buildings to escape the destruction of the communist regime during the period in which they strictly enforced an atheist state.
20:30 Return to city center: 15 minutes
We will explore the castle together for about an hour and a half. If time allows we'll move down the hill shortly to visit the Lead Mosque before returning to the city center.
Transportation and castle entrance fee is included on the price.
Total time for the activity is around 2 ½ hours.
