This tour starts at 4 pm so that we can finish the tour in evening when we can enjoy the best night time views from a hill high above the city of Cusco. We will pick you up from your hotel and either walk or drive to the local, non-touristic San Pedro market. We will then take a tour of the market where we can see and taste local fruits and vegetables, learn about medicinal plants and herbs, and buy some flowers to take to the cemetery. We will then drive 15 minutes to the Almundena Cemetery which is the most important cemetery in Cusco. It was constructed in 1846 and has many famous figures buried here including the former president of the Republic, a famous author and leader of the Peruvian revolution, and the first female attorney in Peru. We will tour the cemetery, deliver flowers from the market to a grave, and learn about the important rituals in Peru and about how we celebrate the Day of the Dead (the Día de los muertos). We will also tour the amazing murals that surround the Cemetery. After this, our driver will take us to the lively Plaza de Armas of Cusco, where we can taste Peru's most famous drink, the Pisco Sour. Finally, our driver will take us to the hills above Cusco to the statue of Christo Blanco. This giant statue of Jesus is located near the ruins of Sacsayhuaman on the Puqamoko hill at a site that had great spiritual value to the Incas. We will tell you why this site was so special while we take in the most spectacular views of Cusco at night and then drive you back to your hotel by private transport.
