As a skilled bird photographer, his experience made a significant difference allowing him to share detailed insights and information that truly enriched our experience. He was also very friendly and approachable, which made the trip even more enjoyable. - MDominiqueC0 contributionsA Must Do…Loved it!!We spent three days in Quito, Ecuador and wanted to visit as much as we could before traveling to Guayaquil. We took a hop-on, hop-off tour of the city on the double decker bus…,And boy! we had a great time!! The weather was nice and Diana T. our bilingual guide, was funny, kind, knowledgeable, had a contagious love of her city and was very helpful answering all our questions.Written 1 December 2024
- Erol B0 contributionsTouring QuitoWe were very happy with the guide and the overall tour. We saw many interesting landmarks and given the altitude of Quito this was the right way to see the city.Written 1 December 2024
- lynettec5250 contributionsScience at the EquatorJoaquim gave a commentary about Quito as we drove out of the city. It was very informative and interesting. The Inti nan was fascinating and a lot of fun doing science experiments with Nicholas. A staff member showed me to the short cut to the monument site and it turned out to be a pretty little shopping / cultural village set around the monument where I got the mandatory photos.Written 30 November 2024
- F7342VBanthonyc0 contributions100% recommend Ecuador as a bucket list countryWe went on this tour with our tour guide Irene and driver Marcelo and they were amazing and so helpful with every stop we made, for every meal, and very knowledgeable about the whole of Ecuador, but I think the main thing I want to say Ecuador has gotten a bad rep for being dangerous but we were in Cuenca for a week and Quito for a week and had no problems, felt very safe and welcomed by all locals and I highly recommend taking a trip out here, worry free.Written 30 November 2024
- Wunderbar_Travel0 contributionsLong day, but a great experienceWe had a fantastic time on this trip. It's a very long day, but the attractions made up for the long travel time to reach Banos from Quito. Irene our guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and very organized. Loved how we could pick our food already in the bus and saved some time in the restaurants. Highly recommend.Written 29 November 2024

- pamelahZ8433LW0 contributionsGreat day in BanosWe had an amazing time in Banos. Our tour guide Irene made sure we had a great time. She was really organized and took amazing photos for us. The swing at the end of the world was so much fun and the waterfall were beautiful.Written 25 November 2024
- cristinaaQ6498PU0 contributionsUse HOHO to get a quick overview of the cityHOHO is always nice to get a quick feel of the city and where we may want to visit longer. The bus was sometimes 10-15 minutes late than scheduled. It was nice when the bus stops at certain location long enough for a quick photo op instead of waiting a full hour or so to catch the next bus. Recommend bringing a hat, umbrella or poncho, and light jacket/sweater as the weather can be unpredictable - rainy and cool or sunny and hot.Written 24 November 2024
- jkd-travel010 contributionsWOW!!The adventurous trip to Banos did not disappoint. The trip description doesn’t do it justice… Ernesto made this a very memorable experience… each stop was better than the next…. More than we could imagine.Written 20 November 2024

- NatuP140 contributionsExcellent Guide and tour!!!This was a wonderful tour. Josh was a great guide, he shared very helpful information about Equador and he’s also a good photographer. Josh has a very vibrant personality and passion for his country and it shows. He took very nice pictures and shared them with the group. The tour itself was long but wonderful, particularly the waterfalls. Very scenic!! Lunch was delicious as well. Mauricio, the driver, drove safely despite rain and fog in the night. Overall it was an excellent trip.Written 18 November 2024

Wonderful trip up the mountain with Erika. We weren’t sure if the clouds would break and we would have the iconic views of the mountain that we hoped for but Erika’s optimism and ability to share her knowledge during the trip up kept us engaged the whole time. Everything turned out great. There were just five of us on the tour other than Erika and our reliable driver whose name I didn’t catch but who navigated us safely and reliably along the way but we felt like we received all the attention and energy as if we had been much larger. Erika accommodated by giving time and encouragement to reach the glacier and the flexibility to stop as needed along the way even when we knew the trip was taking us longer than she had planned. The restaurant we went to for a late lunch felt like a local grill that we could blend into with some locals. We couldn’t recommend this trip more.

It is worth value climbing even a few hundred meters with such air rarefaction. It seems that the heart will come out of the mouth. When we went was winter and we had iced rain during the climb, pretty different. The guide Carlos was the best and gifted some of us with more meters of ascent, and Carlos the driver an expert on the winding road. The stops are ok, with exception of the lunch restaurant which did not have water in the toilets. We loved the experience and leave here our recommendation of Quito Bus Tour in organizing it!

Trip included ecuadorian type breakfast and lunch at a local restaurant in the countryside (there was a llama there too!). Cotopaxi was in the clouds, but the approach provided great views. Once at the parking lot, the hike to the Refuge was started in fog, high winds, some rain, some snow, cold-ish. Tough climb due to weather but especially the altitude. Half the group quickly quit and waited (2+ hours) on the bus. Climb was achievable though (we're age 60) and it was satisfying to reach the Refuge at about 16,000 feet. Further down we got the bikes out and rode down - almost no pedaling required, just braking. Unpaved road could be bumpy, but the biking was fun.

Great experience for getting to the Cotopaxi with a Quito Tour Bus. It was my second day tour with this company in a row and it was perfect. Communication after booking, timing, guided support - everything was at the highest level. Our guide Erika is very knowledgeable and provided us a lot of information about volcanos, Ecuador culture and nature. Due to a lot of people near the Laguna de Limpiopungo we switched this activity and hiked to the Refugee first avoiding crowds during ascend. The road to the Cotopaxi parking lot is not easy and very bumpy but thanks to our driver Mauricio we almost did not feel it.
I would recommend taking the tours from Quito Tour Bus company.

The Cotopaxi tour was an amazing experience. And our tour guides Irene and Carlos made this trip even more special. We visited the beautiful national park and the Cotopaxi volcano. On the way we were making short stops to find out about some special things about the park, volcanos or make pictures in beautiful spots. And of course delicious lunch and breakfast with typical Ecuadorian food. Irene and Carlos were always very helpful and full of positive energy. They would tell us interesting facts about Cotopaxi, surrounding nature, and in general about Ecuadorian culture. Special cheers to Irene for her singing and dancing skills and to Carlos for beautiful photos he made for our Instagram posts :D It was a great day for me so I recommend this experience to everyone!

I had an amazing experience on this trip in a short stay in Quito— Cotopaxi is incredible and our guides were fantastic! Irene was absolutely amazing: extremely knowledgeable, friendly and outgoing, and brought so much energy that made the trip. She had the perfect balance of detailed information about Cotopaxi & Ecuador and fun energy, jokes, etc. Our driver Jorge was also very friendly and helpful, and skilled with navigating the terrain in a bus. Highly recommend this trip— just make sure you’re prepared for the altitude

Jackie is very knowledgeable and attentive. She made sure we were all comfortable and equipped with the knowledge to survive the hike safely. She and Carlos kept us safe and were very enthusiastic throughout.
Unfortunately, the refuge was very foggy the time we climbed so we didn't get to fully see the summit but the pictures and experience were definitely worth the money!
COVID protocols were followed!

I had the pleasure to go with Quito Tour Bus to the magic Cotopaxi. I was doing this trip with Mauro, a personal guide who did an amazing job in explaining and having fun together with me. He listend carefully to my wishes and helped me taking pictures as memories. As we were both pretty fit, we climbed a bit higher to the glacier. A wonderful experience. I can highly recommend Quito Tour Bus for all day tours as I did 3 different day tours with 2 different guides. Both were doing an amazing job, very knowledgeable and fluent in english. And best of all: It was real fun with them. Would do any tour with Quito Tour Bus again and can highly recommend this tour operator.

Cotopaxi is a must see when you are in Quito. The drive to Cotopaxi is 1.5-2 hours. We stopped on the way for an Ecuadorean breakfast as well as some snacks for the hard hike up the volcano. Irene was our guide and Carlos our driver. Both were very nice and provided a lot of information and fun stories. The climb up to the base station was really hard, taken into consideration that you are already starting of a height of ca. 4,400 m and have to walk up to 4,864 m. The air is really thin. But it does not matter if it takes you 30 min or 1 hour, the views are really worth it and it is comforting to see that other people around you are struggling as well :-) I really recommend this tour. If you are lucky Cotopaxi will show itself without clouds, but even if the clouds are there (which I was told is the case most of the time) it is totally worth it. Thank you Irene and Carlos for the great day!

Hi I’m traveling with my mother, she is 70 but relatively in shape. I’m wondering how far the treck is and how much elevation is rained on the treck? Thanks

I'm 65. I walk 3-5 miles daily and swim laps 3-5 days a week. I'm over weight though, and found the hike very difficult. I did manage to complete with the wonderful cheering on of the (much younger) participants and my husband. I have difficulty at high altitudes normally as well. I AM SO GLAD I TRIED! I AM SO PROUD OF FINISHING! Go ahead and take her and just stop when she needs to stop. Make sure you take water for her to drink (it saved me) and one bite of a protein bar. Good luck!

What is the name of the dance that guests did during one of the stops? They had a couple of colorful masks that represented opposites (e.g. light, dark, good, bad). I'm hoping to find a video of this type of dance to share with my family.

It says a bus bus departs at 3 different drop points. If the tour starts at 7 am what tome would be bus be st the 2nd and 3rd drop point?
Written 8 January 2020
Generally, the further south, the later the pickup. The 7 AM pickup is at the first northernmost stop. All of this information will be confirmed when you book and you will have to let them know where you plan to get on.

Does the tour of Cotopaxi include time to hike up on the mountain?
Is it best viewing in morning or afternoon (when do clouds and fog typically roll in)?
Recommendations for places to stay mid-range with great views?
Written 11 September 2019
This particular day trip (from Quito) can’t give that option. They pick you up quite early, take you to breakfast, and have set stops along the way. The hike to the reserve takes over an hour, ascends another 4500 m, I think. There would be no time to do the whole volcano. You’d have to start quite early in the morning and have professional equipment and a guide with you. We had good views at midday, but that would vary according to weather. Teleferico (very worthwhile) advice is to go in AM, though we went at sunset and was beautiful.
Great midrange hotel: Casona de last Ronda. Lovely and centrally located.
Wonderful food: El teatrum and zasu. Also has very good authentic food at the central market in Quito. 3 of us ate well for under $11!

How much time do you actually get to spend at Cotppaxi (enough time to do some hiking and birdwatching?) I don't want to sign up for a tour that's mostly driving and only quick looks for photo ops at locations
Written 1 September 2019
It's probably not for you then, possibly the 2 day tour would be a better option, but it's often cloudy at that altitude.
