- 878sjp0 contributionsWorth ItJoined this trip during winter time, the weather was super cold but the trip was amazing and memorable! Highly recommend for those who want to explore beautiful Tibet and visit their monasteries. The agent, Merry was responsive on Whatsapp and emails, all questions answered prior the trip. Our tour guide is friendly , he can speak both English and Mandarin, he is caring and have patience with us, good at explaining the history as well as taking good photos for us! Our driver has a good driving skill despite the road conditions were pretty bad, I felt safe during the road-trip.Written 13 February 2025
- Davidjohnson190 contributionsAmazingTeam was great wonderful experience we will definitely 💯 back for explore more about tibet during next summer holidays well done team thanks for your hospitality!Written 3 February 2025
- Arianna O0 contributionsAmazing Tibet !Tibet is a magical place. The nature, colours and spaces are authentic, real ... it is a treasure in an increasingly standardised world. The travel agency organised everything perfectly, from the pick-up at the airport to the transfers, to small programme changes to meet the needs of the participants. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and able to answer all our questions! We moved from one location to another by minibus... the driver was really good at driving through zigzagging streets. Winter is considered low season, we were lucky to visit attractions that were never too crowded. Five stars to this agency!Written 11 January 2025
- Laera230 contributionsBeautiful Tibet tourI had a very short visit in Tibet, but Great Tibet Tours, and especially my guide, Migmar made sure that I made the best out of the experience. Migmar took care of me, so that I felt safe all the time, and taught me a lot of Tibetian history, culture and buddhism. Migmar was fantastically practical, she found a solution to all my daily or logistical problems and also made sure that I got everything at the very best price. I experienced beautiful landscapes, serene and intimate temples, kind people and a very unique culture. I truly recommend everyone to take the chance and visit Tiben now. Great Tibet Tours was very communicative from beginning to end, they took care of my Tibet permit and to deliver it to me safely, and booked a very well located, comfortable hotel room for me. I would be very happy to choose them for my next travel.Written 4 January 2025
- BnMadven0 contributionsMore than just great! Amazing! When reviewing which agency to help us with our itinerary for Tibet, we were drawn by the excellent reviews for Great Tibet Tour. What made it wonderful was the amazing help we had from Beatrice, to plan our trip. We looked at the preplanned itineraries the agency had, but with Beatrice's help, my partner was able to tailor it to our interests. Through Beatrice, we were able to plan being able to take the train from Shanghai to Lhasa, hoping that would help us acclimate to the altitude. She helped us ensure we got our train tickets and that our Tibet Travel Permit was issued and delivered to our hotel in Shanghai. She was also reachable via phone to assure us we didn't need paper train tickets and help direct us where we needed to go in order to board the train. When we got to Lhasa, we were met by our guide Tashi, who helped us transfer to our hotel and check in, so we could spend our first day acclimating. Tashi was at the hotel lobby at the agreed on time the morning after so we could set off on the busy day ahead. We toured Yumbulagang Palace, Trandruk Monastery and Samye Monastery all outside of Lhasa. Tashi was a warm and knowledgeable guide, explaining the importance and significance of all the sites we toured, in addition to all of the imagery we would be seeing in Tibetan Buddhism. He helped my partner, who is vegetarian, navigate the menu for vegetarian options. The next day, we did the tour of the Potala Palace, Norbulingka Palace, and Jokhang Temple. My partner has a hobby of collecting and sending postcards, so Tashi was able to help with the post office near the Potala Palace. Tashi took us to a local restaurant near Barkhur Square, we were dined on delicious momos and noodles. Also, we purchased a special Tibetan thangka that was specially mounted and framed that we were able to pick up before our tour of Jokhang Temple. Tashi helped us bless the thangkha at various shrines in the temple, which made it even more special. We cannot express our gratitude for Tashi's hospitality and genorosity and to Beatrice for helping us plan such an amazing trip of a lifetime.Written 23 December 2024

- Javier_19010 contributionsGreat experience in Tibet with Great Tibet TourOur experience in Tibet has been great!! This country has an special atmosphere and its people is one of the most friendly we have ever seen in our trips. It should be a must for every traveller at least once in a lifetime. The other part of our great experience has been Great Tibet Tour, and in particular, Jennie's support along the whole trip. They have made our travel even better and we have felt their great experience with us all the time solving all the things we needed. For sure we repeat with them if we have the possibility. Thanks a lot for everything!!! Carmen and JavierWritten 26 November 2024
- PoornaCW0 contributionsValue for money and well organized tourWell organized tour. Contacted them through email and WhatsApp. Jenny provided every single detail I asked. Initially I contacted them in June planning to go in August, due to a work commitment I had to delay it till September. Email and WhatsApp messages spread over months but same attention was given while providing support even though I’ve already postponed the tour once without even paying for any booking. Tour was well organized. Tibet permit was sent to my hotel well in advance. Guide and driver picked me up from the airport. Smooth ride. Well explained tours. Hotel should have been bit improved for 3 star, big breakfast but choice of options were limited. I don’t necessarily go for food so that was fine by me. Anyway, I enjoyed the tour.Written 26 November 2024
- Paul_Newman_London0 contributionsGreat Tibet Tour made an unforgettable visit to Tibet possible for usFor foreign and Chinese visitors alike, Tibet is a destination incomparably rich in cultural experiences, a visual banquet unique on this planet. The gaze of the authorities is, however, ubiquitous and it would be a somewhat daunting place to navigate without the assistance of people with a depth of experience at bringing tourists into the territory. Great Tibet Tour represented an absolutely essential resource for our "group" of two seeking more bespoke travel arrangements for our six-day visit than a standard tour. We could not have asked for more from their service: it was efficient, empathetic, completely understanding of our needs and a delight to deal with. I could not recommend them more highly.Written 1 November 2024
- henkbG9490AV0 contributionsGreat trip in classic Xi'an and friendly LhasaThe trip started in Xi'an. The guide was great, receiving us at the airport and bringing us straight to the lively Muslim quarter. Next days we visited Terracotta warriors, Pagoda's and with the local guide being fluent in English we learned all about the history, in particular about the Qin and Tang dynasties. The fourth day the sympathetic driver dropped us at the railwaystation and helped us pass security. Tip: make sure passport numbers containing the number 0 (zero) are not accidentally entered as the letter O. The train trip was great. Tip: make sure you get the two soft sleeper lower berth's when you travel as a couple. The scenery was great as expected. On Lhasa we were again received by our great guide for the last 4 days in Lhasa. Her English was fluent and we visited all the 'obligatory' highlights. But on top we also visited some smaller monastries beyond the beaten track. We learned everything about the history of Busshism in Tibet. Tibetan people are extremely hospitable. Tip: It goes a long way to learn just 3 phrases in Tibetan. Tashi De Leg (hello) Tug Je Che (thanks) jabu jabu du (great) In summary a memorable journey well worth doingWritten 25 October 2024
- Robert M0 contributionsEverything was better than advertisedThis trip and this company delivered to every way. Communication in the planning stages is important to me. I don’t like being kept waiting while planning a big trip. And Tibet is a BIG trip. That’s number one. The hotels were better than I expected. Our guide Lobsang was awesome. I’ve traveled all over the world (100 countries) and I cannot think of ANY guide that’s better than him. Informative, funny, helpful, and always asking “need anything.” Top tier in every way. Where did he take me? To some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet. Photos can’t deliver the overwhelming beauty Tibet offers. Soooooo happy.Written 25 October 2024
- Susanv12340 contributionsThank you, Lobsang!!!! The best guide- ever!!!!We took the 8 day tour but came a couple of days early to acclimatize. The altitude is no joke. We never met one member of our group as the oxygen and IV didn’t improve her condition and she left for lower heights. Another group member passed out multiple times at the Everest Base Camp. If you can, see your doctor and have him/her prescribe altitude adjustment meds (our started days before we arrived in Lhasa. We also used hydration tablets with electrolytes for our bottles of water. I am a vegetarian and food options were very scarce. Yak meat, milk and butter is in everything. All was well worth the hassle as we had the most incredible guide- Lobsang. I cannot recommend this guide highly enough. He is knowledgeable, has a great attitude and helped us every step of the way. He is delightful. My traveling buddy had knee surgery 11 weeks before our vacation. Lobsang kept an eye on her so that she had support when it was needed. I can’t say enough about our accommodating guide. The driver was lovely, too, and avoided issues as we navigated through crazy driving conditions. I am most grateful to Lobsang as he guided us through a very special vacation.Written 20 October 2024
- WanderingParomita0 contributionsWonderful holiday with a very responsive and good tour companyWe just completed a 10 day tour with the company. Communication was prompt and clear from the start. We spent time exploring Lhasa, Shigatse, the EBC, Namtso Lake and some additional monasteries on the last day. The hotels and guest houses were very good, in fantastic locations and met our expectations. Our guides (Dhargye and Lobsung) and drivers were friendly, helpful and courteous - we felt well looked after. Help was available at odd hours too when I needed help with getting a baggage lost in Frankfurt to Lhasa. Overall a fantastic well organised trip with a professional company. Happy to recommend and will use them again if in Tibet!Written 20 October 2024
- 152smrithis0 contributionsBrilliant and outstanding !Our trip to Tibet was the most amazing one ! We had started communicating with Merry long before and she answered everything and made us feel comfortable. She arranged short tours for us in Chengdu and Xining as we had a long layover before we took the Qinghai Tibet railway to Lhasa. The tickets for that was also all sorted by Merry in the soft sleeper class we wanted. We did a 10 day Lhasa trip with one day being a private tour. Our guides Lobsang and Dhargye were simply superb ! Linda h was full of life and so passionate about the Tibetan culture. The stories were fascinating. Dhargye took care of us for most of the trip making us feel so safe and comfortable. The driver Tenzing was so cool and positive. We went to the EBC where I got low on oxygen and every help was provided by Dhargye. Also when we landed in Lhasa our baggage hadn’t arrived from Frankfurt. But despite that, Merry and Beatrice made sure they spoke to the staff at Chengdu airport to get our baggage to Lhasa as soon as possible. Great Tibet Tour is a wonderful company and I am so happy with their services. I plan to come back to Tibet in a few years time and I shall definitely use them again ! Tibet truly has my heart and soul !Written 20 October 2024
- cltey20210 contributionsGreat experience with The Great Tibet Tour!I really enjoyed my first trip to Tibet with The Great Tibet Tour - our tour felt like a private tour and we certainly have chosen the right time to visit Tibet (avoiding local school holiday times). The pre-planning was quite extensive in terms of flight booking, travel permit, visa, deciding on the exact tour itinerary and downloading the correct apps for local use - all made easier with communication with Beatrice, the tour operator. Beatrice is contactable and very responsive on WhatsApp, WeChat and emails. She answered all our questions promptly and provided a lot of reassurance. The tour schedule is reasonably timed. It may be helpful if the schedule for pit-stop towns en route to ascending to Everest Base Camp (EBC North Base Camp - Tourist Base Camp) could have been more relaxed (or an extra day fitted in) to help with adaptation to higher altitude. Saying that, most of the tour groups by another companies seemed to follow the same schedule. The last day tour to Namtso was quite tiring for me as it was an 8 hour round trip and the actual time spent in Namtso was less than 1.5-2 hours. This was after more than 1 week of touring - might be best to see Namtso in another trip unless one is extremely keen on seeing as much as possible (it is a beautiful sacred lake!). Our Tibetan tour guide Lobsang is very knowledgeable, trustworthy, patient and friendly. He is fluent in 3 languages including English and Mandarin. He taught us about the Tibetan culture, customs, nature and Buddhism. He looked after us very well, ensuring we are comfortable at all times, guided us through check points seamlessly and nothing is too much trouble if we ever need help. Our driver Palnor is an extremely careful driver. Never did I think that I would not need any motion sickness tablets on the hair pin loops roads! His driving skills is second to none - very skillful manoeuvring and smooth driving. He ensured we had a comfortable journey each time. The other points worth mentioning - hotels are 3 stars and clean (the Lhasa hotel is very strategic in location, however the deco is quite dated, carpets very old and air conditioning non existent). Bottled water is provided at all times. Admission fees included in the price of the tour. Overall, I am a very happy customer and have already recommended the Great Tibet Tour to my family and friends!Written 5 October 2024

Jul 2019
I planned my trip with Great Tibet Travels last year (2019) during July. This trip has changed my life for the better. The tour company and the tour guide Darghye were wonderful. During my 3 day trek, Darghye walked beside me to the most part and gave commentary. This man is knowledgeable and knows what he is talking about.
Darghye kept an eye on all members on the tour and periodically asked us how we are doing altitude sickness wise.
Remember while doing the trek, think positive and take baby steps and this may change your life for the better.
Regarding the tour company they were kind enough to upgrade my hotel location at a couple of locations for no extra charge.
Trek Planning - Fitness:
I am a New Yorker and moderately fit. Before going on this trip, never in my life walked more than 5 miles a day. I started off with walking 9K to 10K steps per day at a moderate pace for a few weeks. I took it to the next level by walking around central park - this takes about 16K steps in about 3.5 hours and this I used to do every weekend. Since we lived in a high raised building, every day I used to climb stairs (sometimes 10 floors and sometimes 20 floors). Maybe a few times I walked on the treadmill in the Gym with inclination set to 14 for about 15 minutes.
Trek Planning - Medication:
I scheduled an appointment with my PCP - got the prescription for diamox and antibiotics. I also took with me tylenol, motrin, a miniverion of first aid kit.
Trek Planning - General:
You can read as much as you want on fitness but one should learn to know and listen to ones’ body. I carried some nuts and granola bars and do not forget ponchos
Trek - Altitude Sickness:
Diamox will do its job and you do your job. Remember to take it easy the first few days, no need to run or get excited, let me body adapt. My mantra initially was to walk like a snail, take small steps (remember to listen to your body and keep your mind in a positive state).
I did get headaches and took tylenol.

May 2019 • Family
My family with two young adults send heartfelt thanks to Beatrice for superb organization, prompt and helpful service, and to Tashi and Pemba (our Tibetan guide and driver) for their friendliness, politeness, and professionalism. Tashi spoke excellent English. Beatrice managed to organize a visa for China in three days from Kathmandu, a feat in itself. We were picked up at the airport in Lhasa and greeted with our Tibet permits there. Seemingly miraculously, everything ran smoothly.
We liked the faded Yak Hotel in Lhasa (sheets were clean, beds comfortable, breakfasts fine) for its traditional feel and proximity to Old Lhasa. We found interesting streets to discover on both sides of the main street. PS: The time to visit Lhasa is now: before the vast forests of high-rise apartment buildings that the Chinese are rapidly building get filled up with new immigrants and Tibet loses its authenticity and charm (if nothing else...). We enjoyed touring the monasteries with the information provided by our guide. PS. Don't go to Tibet expecting Dalai Lama level enlightenment... The "Buddhism" would make Siddhartha Gautama (and most Dalai Lamas) spin in their grave: not the slightest bit about self-transcendence through meditation; mostly about mindless recitation of sutras, superstition, religious hypocrisy of the usual sort (big gold monuments to the Buddha), and money. (Donations, we were told, go to the government, which then gives a salary to the monks ...who then use it to buy their cellphones.)
The hotel in Shigatze was equally clean and comfortable, and the "welcome dinner" we were treated to there as part of our tour was fantastic (we had to pay for the guide and driver's dinners, which was fine, but a welcome dinner should provide also for the ones doing the welcoming...). The rest of the accommodations were very rudimentary. The tents at the EBC were charming (albeit smoke-filled); I could not bring myself to use the toilets. The sunset and sunrise on Mount Everest were lucky and worth the whole trip. The guesthouse in Darchen was extremely basic, the hole-in-the-ground toilets smelly, the showers too uninviting to contemplate. The guesthouses at Mount Kailash were frankly disgustingly dirty.
Since we had a 10-seater minibus all to ourselves, our journey was very comfortable; but I would not have wanted, and could not have bore, another person in there. The lengthy 10-hour several days there-and-back road trip between Lhasa and Mount Kailash was anywhere from boring to exhilarating, depending on which one of us you ask and how many days we had been on it (personally, I could only take so much of brown, leaf-less desert plateau day after day, while my husband was entranced throughout). The kora around Mount Kailash took my sons two half days, while my husband and I stayed in Darchen due to altitude sickness (my silly husband having not taken the Diamox we had with us...) There was zilch to do in Darchen and our 3-day stay there felt endless; this was due to the Chinese authorities not allowing us to go anywhere but the four blocks that constitute Darchen.
Our guides stopped along the road for numerous photo opportunities; one highlight of the return was a very interesting stop at a lovely incense producing village.
The food along the trip was much better and varied than we had been told to expect. When we got tired of too much of the same, our guide and driver went out of their way to locate comfort foods. We were provided with as much water as we wanted, and there was an oxygen supply that thankfully we didn't require. (I do recommend Diamox: it's high and the air is thin!)
All told, it was a well-organized (if highly inflexible), comfortable enough, interesting adventure at the top of the world. I highly recommend it NOW, before the Chinese ruin it with megaprojects evidently ongoing everywhere.

I had an amazing time in Tibet and it is without a doubt an experience I will remember for the rest of my life. I owe a very special thanks for our driver and our tour guide Lobsang. Lobsang was extremely professional and made it an incredibly education, interesting, and comfortable experience. I would highly recommend him to other travelers.

Tibet is many things. It cannot be summarised in a few words.
Tibet is vast, engaging, confronting (not what I expected ), beautiful, magical (the rituals in the temples, the Tibetan horse racing I witnessed, Mount Kailash) ) were extremely special. Its also challenging (take it slowly at High Altitude), bum numbing (many hours in the van / bus between destinations) and some of the accommodation (but ho hum thats part of the overall experience).
The memory of the Kora around Mount Kailash will be with me for years. However the Base Camp Everest was really not that special - but at least I can say "been there and done that"!
The guide was friendly (Thanks Lobsang) , helpful and always available. And of course part of the experience is meeting new people whom you share the experience with for the whole 15 days..
Loved it!

We had an amazing pilgrimage with this wonderful company which lasted 15 days. We were able to spend our time very peacefully and if any problems were to arise, we were able to be in contact very quickly with the travel agent who understood our needs very well.

Finally, we come back home. We are very pleased with our Tibet tour, even if I am a little bit tired.
Thanks for excellent service and cooperation proving by Great Tibet Tour. I will contact Great Tibet Tour for my next China tour in 2022.
We have two guides for the whole tour. One is Dajie who picks us up at the airport; the other is Lobsang who helps us with the sightseeing in Tibet. Dajie is fantastic and knowledgeable. Lobsang is humorous and helpful. We are both pleased with these two guides. The guide plays an important role on the whole tour. Our driver is very skillful. We feel safe in his car.
We are looking forward to my next Tibet trip with Great Tibet Tour.

After the impressive voyage by train from Chengdu via Xining to Lhasa (the uncertainty about availibility of train tickets was increased til the utmost) an warm welcome of our tourguide Labsong and his skilful companion and driver Pasha made disappear all doubts about our trip. We experienced an amazing fortnight on the roof of the world. Wel planned excellent explanations and the 4star arrangement appeared to be a good choice; the accomodation met our expecations. Especially during the Kora Labsong did his very best to arrange a good place to spend the night. One of the best most heavy experiences was passing the 5630 Drolma La in snow and hail together with innumerable pilgrims.

Is there alot of walking or just the normal amount? Do not want to be hiking over mountains..please let me know.

no hiking at all between Lhasa and Mount Kailash, indeed hardly any walking. Once you get to Darchen, bus takes you to foot of Mount Kailash where the kora begins. First day of kora: 2-3 hours walking, mostly flat. Second day of kora: 10 hour walking, because going over two high passes (sounds like this part it not for you: very hard because of thin air). Third day of kora: 2 hours walking, mosty flat. You could stay in Darchen during the kora, but beware: not much to do there!
