Itinerary
- 1On the short walk to the temple entrances, your guide will explain the history of the site, including details of the UNESCO-led relocation of the entire cliff face to higher ground, and how the temples were discovered by accident in 1813. Due to the large number of visitors to Abu Simbel, guides are not permitted inside either the Great Temple of Ramses II or the smaller Temple of Hathor. However, by using photos and illustrations, your guide will explain to you the structures and their interior artworks. You will then have free time to enter the temples and explore them at your leisure. After visiting the temples there may be time for a short visit to the small visitor's center which documents the UNESCO relocation project, before returning to the minibus for the drive back to Aswan. The drive is approximately three hours each way.

- rachelleroque050 contributionsAbu Sarga Coptic Church and Hanging GardenBest part of my trip , is that we’ve visited Abu Sarga on the day of my birthday! When I came to know that this church is deeply connected with the Holy Family’s journey through Egypt when they sought refuge during their flight from Palestine. Feel very blessed to walked and see what inside their home. It is one of the oldest church in Egypt .Written 10 March 2025

- NellyT6350 contributionsTruly magical Nile cruiseFantastic trip organised by South Sinai travel. We did a 4 night cruise on Ms Nile Style ship. Food was fantastic, staff all friendly and courteous especially the ship Captain John Michel. There were well organised trips at every destination with our own English speaking guide, and private transfers by boat, car and horse drawn carriage at each of the temple/sight destinations. Cannot recommend this more highly. We loved every minute of itWritten 24 November 2024
- Tula450 contributionsThe Nile Style Cruise Boat was the Highlight of 9 days in Egypt. The tour I was on was booked through the UK company Exodus Adventure Travels; Ancient Egypt & Nile Cruise. For this 9 day tour, Exodus use the tour agent, South Sinai Travel. The tour began in the Steigenberger Pyramids Hotel from where the group of 15 visited the pyramids / Cairo Museum/ Mosque and Bazaar. Next day there was an early flight to Luxor and a visit to Karnal and luxor Temple and we boarded the Nile Style cruise boat. The Nile Style was a great cruise boat, the room - and whole boat - was clean, beds comfortable, many towel animal made, fabulous food, and lots of it. The Nile Style and its crew were the highlight of this trip. Visited the valley of the kings, Edfu and Kom Ombo. In Aswan there was a visit to the high dam & Philae Temple. The end of the tour was in the Basma Hotel, after the cruise boat this was a bit of a let down, but I think it was because the Nile Style had been so good! the tour ended in Aswan. It was a great way to see the Pyramids and cruise the Nile in a short space of time. A great trip.Written 2 October 2024
- B4140PTbillc0 contributionsThe Hanging Church & Ben Ezra SynagogueI am not a religious person but have always been interested in the history of religions. This trip did not disappoint. In the heart of Old Cairo & close to the Nile, within easy walking distance of each other are the Hanging Church & an ancient synagogue. I spent an hour in each place; soaking up the atmosphere. Definitely worth the time & money.Written 25 September 2024
- dave8dmb0 contributionsVery poor customer serviceVery unhelpful company who are only interested in exploiting English tourists for as much money as they can. For example I was quoted $65 for a $20 private transfer to Aswan airport. Also they use a very old and dirty boat on the Nile cruise. Do not travel on boat Nile Style as you will not be looked after - rude staff. Poor hygiene, dirty and very very overpriced. If traveling to Egypt then avoid having any involvement with this companyWritten 15 May 2024
- JoeCBansteadUK0 contributionsVery Highly Recommended AgentI was solo in a small group 8 night tour of max 14 - we were 9 ( all very well travelled), South Sinai were the organising agent on behalf of Exodus Travel who in turn operated the tour on behalf of Trailfinders. From being met prior to immigration at Cairo airport until we split in the transit lounge upon departure, the organisation was efficient and unobtrusive everywhere we visited. A tip on the Egyptian e visa - I struggled (and failed) to master the application, being rather anxious about the possibility of huge queues asking all the myriad same questions as the e visa. In fact you simply pay (no questions/forms) US$25 for a stick on visa at a 24/7 bank counter which the Immigration Office simply sticks in your passport - simples! Our guide - Ahmed, a very articulate and well educated (4 year Egyptology Bsc) young man judged the ‘mood’ of our party very quickly and undoubtedly contributed to the success of the tour. We were a disparate group on paper, but to a man/woman the tour was rated a huge success. Tour buses were comfortable and well driven. Visiting Phillae we were the only ferry boat wearing life jackets - another plus for South Sinai. There was a supplementary list of visits which didn’t get the hard sell, but were carefully explained. Throughout Ahmed was knowledgeable, discrete and avoided any large queues/crowds. The sites individually are a matter of personal taste - for me I was personally ‘templed out’ by the time of an opportunity to visit Abu Simbel but others enjoyed the trip. Once again, Ahmed was a star!Written 17 December 2023
- yparisa0 contributionsSkip itIt is a boring ,walk through the temple. Just go during day and you will see more. Not worth the cost or time spent. I would not recommend.Written 2 February 2023
- Wander5464950 contributionsWonderful Discoveries in CairoMohammed lend us on a very interesting and engaging tour and encouraged us to let him know of our special interests. Had plenty of time to see the historic sites plus others Mohammed thought we would enjoy. We especially loved the Coptic Museum! The building is a gem itself with impressive craftsmanship from 1901. Our only disappointment was that the Ben Ezra was closed for renovations and had been closed for a long time, so it should not nave been listed as part of the tour. Private tour was well worth every penny! Thanks!Written 2 December 2022
- rayp4690 contributionsExcellent private tour!Joseph was an excellent and knowledgeable guide! Great english and provided an in-depth learning experience at every location. There were three in our party and he made sure we were comfortable and stayed on schedule without feeling rushed or stressed in finishing at a certain time. The lunch location was for tourists and basic food. Would have preferred a more unique and authentic option but was ok. I suggest allowing the customer help determine what is preferred within reason. Thank you to Joseph for a great experience!Written 27 November 2022

- amandab926630 contributionsEasy airport transferWe had a great experience with Farid for both our airport pickup and our departure trip. He shared Egypt history and sites along our trips. He walked us through the airport all the way to the lounge as we navigated the first baggage check, check-in and our extra baggage. We will absolutely use this service and request Farid again!Written 9 September 2022
- MikeR53030 contributionsExtremely DisappointingThis was so disappointing. In the age of technology what a complete let down and totally not wot the $40 I paid for 2 VIP front row seats. To add insult to injury the narrating was in Spainish with a Sony walkman (like) translation headset of very poor quality. My advice would be to skip this low tech show, which is only 40 minutes. Worst still was the usher who quided us to our front row seats and then hovered around endlessly looking for a tip! There is a reading it was only 10% full..... SKIP THIS ONE.Written 26 August 2022

Before heading to Egypt, I was unable to secure a flight to Abu Simbel for the time I would be in Aswan. However, I was determined to not miss visiting the iconic temples in Abu Simbel! Once in Egypt, I was able to arrange a private tour which included a ride in a minibus from Aswan to Abu Simbel as well as a tour outside of the temples. At $120.00, the cost for the minibus tour was less than one half of the cost for the tour with flight to Abu Simbel.
The tour included five people and we had an early start from our hotel. The minibus was comfortable and the tour guide provided a nice overview of what we would be experiencing at Abu Simbel. The minibus ride also allowed me to enjoy the scenery along the way including desert areas and Nubian communities. Once we arrived the tour guide provided a great summary of the history of the temples and also helped us run the “gauntlet” of the bazaar once we were leaving the temple area. Note that tour guides are not allowed inside of the temples; visitors are able to explore the interiors on their own.
Both the drive to and from Abu Simbel was smooth and I felt safe throughout the tour. For those visitors who don’t mind an approximately three hour road trip, this is a great option that allows for a lovely scenic journey and even a little nap, if necessary!

Hi! I am traveling to Egypt in October with Gate 1. For some reason they don't offer Abu Simbel for Oct 16:-( I am looking to book myself but not sure how to fit in Gate 1 schedule. Did you go there early?
Written 27 August 2019
Hello
I also traveled with Gate 1 in March Prior to my arrival in Egypt, the Abu Simbel optional tour by air sold out, However, once on Egypt Gate 1 provided a third party that was able to transport me and four others to Abu Simbel by mini bus. The ride was comfortable and we actually arrived to Abu Simbel before the group that flew to Abu Simbel. As I recall, the price was also a bit less than the air travel option. Just be sure to have sufficient cash to pay for the journey. Happy travels!
