Begin with pickup at your hotel in Cairo, and travel to Alexandria in a private, air-conditioned vehicle, following Egypt’s Desert Road to the Mediterranean coast. Make the first stop of the day at the National Museum.
Continue to Qaitbay Citadel to see the 15th-century defensive walls that look out over the coast: the citadel was constructed on the site of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, once once of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Visit the Catacombs, where three levels of tombs were carved into the rock, then decorated with distinctive images that merge Egyptian, Roman, and Greek artistic styles. Stop by the Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque, which shelters the tomb of a Sufi saint, then make the final stop of the day at the modern Library of Alexandria. The outside of the library is inscribed with languages from around the world that celebrate Alexandria’s ancient library, and the massive interior of the building will eventually house millions of books.
At the end of your day in Alexandria, make the return trip to Cairo, where this tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.
