Rather than risk driving, amateur historians will thrill to this day tour. Discover the UNESCO-listed sites of Roman-era Baalbek and early Islamic Anjar with an informative local guide—and enjoy a restaurant lunch too.

Our guide, Natacha, was just great. She explained everything very well and she's a very easy-going woman. I loved Baalbek and Anjar as well.

The guide was very nice. The places was ofcourse awsome. As there were only 6 people that day for the tour a mini van was made available. the only hithch was the time of pick up. We were told to be ready in between 7.45 and 8 but it happened at 8.40. The same thing had happened the day before. But the trip was overall nice and the lunch was very nice.

Booked 3 different day tours with Nakhal including tours to Baalbek, Byblos, etc. All tours were excellent and well organised including the hotel pick and drop off. Booking via email was also smooth with prompt responses. Prices were reasonable too. Recommended.

My trip to Anjar (ruins), Baalbek, (bigger ruins) and Ksara (wine brewery) was very nice. We were driven from our hotel to Nakhal & Ciel's travel agency. We were a small group of people being driven around the east side of Lebanon for half a day. The trip was pretty expensive but the guides were good and seemed to have taken care of everything. When going to Anjar and Baalbek, it's definitely worth it to take a guided tour.
Ksara is kinda boring unless you are a wine person. The underground wine storage is pretty cool though.
This part of Lebanon is pretty cold, mountainous and snowy, so wear warm clothes.

An excellent trip in good company. We were almost the only people at the Anjar Palace and Baalbek sites - an excellent time of the year - not too hot and personal attention from the guide.

It was perfect, the tour guide is an archeologist and really has passion for what she does. Great sites to visit, great lunch too, and the tempo was good, didn’t feel rushed. Definately recommended.

We had a great tour. We saw places and attractions that we had not been able to trace of our own. Our guide had very good knowledge of history and the attraction. He was a very nice person and we really enjoyed the tour.

The guide wasn't too knowledgable (I asked a very evident question, he didn't know the answer and - worse - gave a completely wrong answer, beside the point) but especially the tour was badly organised: we got (a very good) lunch only at 15h00, about 8 hours after breakfast, everybody was starving; alogical timing made us visit the absolute highlight, Baalbek, at noon in the burning sun, we were hurried there (only 1h45 for this huge superb site), the wine tour was a joke,... And the toilet in the bus didn't work.

I was travelling alone in Lebanon so I was suggested to tour with Nakhal to visit Baalbek. The places we visited were amazing, but we were on a very strick schedule so we didn't had enough time to enjoy, especially in Baalbek. We went for a very long lunch, it was tasteful, but I would have rather save some time from the long lunch and had less of a rush visiting the sites.
In my opinion I prefer to spend a few more dollars but have a private tour with another tour guide than have another group tour with Nakhal (also a private guide would pick you up instead of having to go to their main office).
The guide we had was a very kind woman, she is an archaeologist and spoke fluent Arabic, English, french, good italian.

Is there any issue with safety when visiting Baalbek or Aanjar? I see they are located in the border area which the British FCO warns against visiting unless on essential business (and right next to the area they recommend against visiting completely). Presumably lots of military check points? Any added security necessary on the bus?

I did a trip to Baalbek organised by Nakhal Sightseeing Tours. It's a whole day, and was very impressive. You could ask the organisation whether they do trips to Zahle.
