- sarahsX3484PF0 contributionsThis has to be experiencedIt’s so difficult to find the words to review this tour. Our guide ( apologies I can’t remember her name but it means “powerful” was warm, friendly and informative about what is clearly a very personal tragedy. With excellent English , a careful history lesson and a hint of humour despite her very personal loss during the reign of the Khmer Rouge. It was emotionally draining but so important to come and learn. I was amazed at the Cambodian’s willingness to understand and accept what their countrymen did to each other with no desire for revenge. Food for thought. Highly recommended… you can’t come to Cambodia and not take this tour.Written 5 February 2025
- 411shahnazi0 contributionsEye opening historical tourA somber, moving but historically eye opening tour of the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge regime in the late 1970s I now have such an appreciation of the country and the people and their resilience. Mr Baboon was a wonderful guide - informative and respectful to his country’s historyWritten 2 February 2025

- Defender19990 contributionsHarrowing but 'must see' tourRecommend this trip. It is harrowing but necessary to educate people on Cambodia's dark past. Our guide Baboon was extremely knowledgeable and our driver Mr T transported us to and from hotel ( or restaurant as requested). The fields and prison and graphic and tell the tale of real people who suffered. Their photographs are displayed all over as are the ' objects' used for their terrible torture and excecution. The prison cells are left as they were found and there are stark reminders of what people endured. We also met a 95 year old survivor. Trips like this are not pleasant but I encourage people of all ages to go.Written 28 January 2025

- Julia T0 contributionsInformative and moving experienceVery informative and moving experience. The guide answered all our questions and took us through the history of Cambodia, the lead up to the genocide and the liberation from it. It was about 4 hours in total but I could’ve stayed another 30mins or so to just sit and reflect on the whole experience.Written 7 January 2025
- Scenic258607244790 contributionsHistorical tour which should not be missedWould highly recommend this tour if you have any interest in history. The guide Baboon was excellent and covered everything in detail. Also recommended a nice restaurant to eat at the end of the tour.Written 6 January 2025

- Raps19700 contributionsUnpleasant and harrowing - but a 'must see'A good tour although obviously not a pleasant one. Price was reasonable, tour guide (an official Cambodia tourist dept tour guide) was very friendly, knowledgeable and spoke good English. The only thing I would say, having previously traveled to Krakow to visit Auschwitz, is that by comparison Tuol Sleng is tiny and the numbers involved much smaller, although of course that doesn't make them any less terrible. But both sites are 'must-see' educational and spiritual experiences - and they both demonstrate how ridiculous and obscene the extreme pro-Palestinian supporters' use of the term "genocide" is when it is used offensively and out of context to describe Israel's actions in Gaza, post 7/10. This place - and Auschwitz - are where "genocide" took place. Sites and stories which will probably stay in your consciousness forever.Written 22 December 2024
- Departure498339835320 contributionsHighly interesting tour, amazing operator! This is a great tour to learn about Cambodia's darker part of history. Mr. Baboon made the tour interesting and it was not hard to follow his stories about Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge. The killing Fields and the S21 are a must see for everyone who visits Phnom Penh and we can highly recommend this tour operator. At the end we were dropped at a local restaurant which also had been well chosen. Additionally we would like to mention that we initially booked the wrong date. It was very easy getting in touch with the operator via WhatsApp, and they changed the date quickly and without any surcharge. Thanks again for the great customer service, the tour and everything around it. We really liked every minute of it!Written 18 December 2024
- Quang T0 contributionsA must do to understand Cambodia’s historyThis was a well guided tour with loads of information. Sum Cheat was our guide and he did a great job of providing background information and historical facts. You can tell he was emotional involved as his own family members were affected by the regime. I came out of this having a profound understanding of Cambodia’s history and greatly appreciate that such tours exist so we never forget.Written 3 December 2024
- tarakinsella20000 contributionsVery informative tourExcellent tour. Very knowledgeable tour guide with good English. So informative and emotionally moving throughout. Definitely took so much more from this tour than we anticipated. We would highly recommend. Very reasonably priced and the perfect length tour from others we looked at before choosing. Baboon our tour guide was very pleasant and made the tour stressless for us all!Written 16 November 2024
- 290ngan0 contributionsAn experience not to miss - learnt so much of the Cambodian historyVisiting the Killing Fields and S21 was an emotional and heartbreaking experience but am glad I went to learn the hardship and devastation the Cambodian people had suffered. It was made even more memorable with our guide Mr Baboon who was excellent, informative and very passionate! A must do if you’re visiting Cambodia.Written 9 November 2024

My partner and I found the tour to be very informative and touching. The tour guide was a very passionate storyteller, and no doubt, so given that his own family experienced the effects of the Khmer Rouge reign. The guide has close relations with the surviving prisoners and is able to relay their stories well and tell us details we would not have found out had we gone to the locations solo.
The experience is very thought-provoking and provides widened appreciation for the Cambodian people and the history that has led them to where they are today. The tour experience is great value for money, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

It's hard to find the right words to describe the subject of the tour - brutal and haunting don't begin to cover it. If you are visiting Cambodia it is essential and everyone should experience it.
The tour itself with Visal was excellent – one of the best tours I've ever experienced. The information was extremely well constructed and delivered, always engaging and easy to retain. It never lulled like a lot of tours can sometimes.
I'd recommend taking extra cash so you can purchase the survivor's books, and turn up well rested. Thank you for the incredible knowledge Visal!

Sum Cheath was our guide and contacted us on WhatsApp prior to the trip to ensure we knew what time he would pick us up at the hotel and what to bring. He had just the right mix of when to be entertaining and when to make serious points about what is a terrible period in his country’s history. The tour was very informative, hard hitting and kept to time throughout. I can thoroughly recommend this trip if you want to understand what happened here in the later 1970s. Five stars

We were unsure whether to do a guided trip or try to organise it ourselves as we didn’t want to get caught in a big, impersonal group without the chance to ask questions.
We decided to take part in this tour and we were really glad we did. Visal, our tour guide was excellent and super knowledgeable. He has great English and took time to explain the history of how Pol Pot came to power during our journey to the killing field.
We were lucky our group was only 4 people but I think judging by the size of the transport, a larger group would be max. 10 people. We were picked up from our hotel and Visal was in constant contact via WhatsApp to let us know timings and his eta.
The trip is great value at $25 per person. Entry fees are an additional $8 and that covers both sites. You pay on entry and they don’t take cards so make sure to take cash. You need crisp, clean bills if using dollars otherwise they will be refused.
You are provided water on the trip and do not need to take your own. In terms of dress code, a lot of people seemed to ignore the rules of covering shoulders and knees. Out of respect of the atrocities that people suffered, I would suggest you adhere to this to pay your respects.
At S21, you have the opportunity to meet some of the few survivors. They sell books of their stories for $10. We didn’t want it buy every book but want to make donations to support them so I would recommend taking some change if you would like to do the same.
All in all a really sad but important stop during any trip to Phnom Penh and Cambodia.

Because our accommodation was outside the city center the pickup was not free but 5 dollar instead. Because there were no other customers, they picked us up and changed the order of the two museums. We didn't have to pay the 5 dollars as a resjlt but gave it as a tip, because our guide was knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I would recommend this tour if you do not like an audio tour that is available at both museums. Make sure you bring some cash if you want to buy a book from the survivors of the prison, and buy a flower to pay your respects at the killing fields.

Absolutely heartbreaking but also necessary to understand what happened to the people of Cambodia. My tour guide Sum Cheath and driver Mr T were amazing, offering us chilled water to drink, this was much appreciated as it is all out doors. We were picked up in an air conditioned van from either our hostel or the 'meeting point' - Grand River Sports Bar. I recommend getting picked up from the sports bar as it is close to the Royal Palace, National Museum and the Tonle Sap river so you can see them before/ after your museum tour. 10/10 experience with this tour, thank you so much Sum Cheath for looking after us during this experience.

I recently had the privilege of touring the Killing Fields and S21 Prison with an outstanding guide. From start to finish, their knowledge and empathy created a profound experience. Their storytelling brought history to life, and their ability to navigate these sensitive sites was remarkable. The insights provided were invaluable, making this tour both educational and emotionally impactful. I highly recommend this guide for anyone seeking a thoughtful and informative journey through Cambodia's history. 5/5 stars!

Our excellent tour guide Visal did a great job telling us about some the darkest parts of Cambodian history while providing the perfect amount of respect for the heavy topic with an eloquent and perfect delivery in English. He looked after our group - made sure we were always all caught up in the loop and picked us up and dropped us off safely. Thanks Visal!

Our guide Baboon was exceptionally skilled in delivering information of such a sensitive nature. He was ready with information and could answer our questions but also knew when the group might need time with their thoughts. Excellent communication before departure. Comfortable transport and chilled water provided. It’s a deeply moving and harrowing experience but I really recommend this tour.

Our guide ‘Baboon’ reached out via WhatsApp the night before to check we were comfortable with logistics, and on the trip spoke English well and was very informative. He relayed personal stories that added to the poignancy of the tragic events, but was also able to be uplifting as obviously it is a heavy subject, and he was respectful conveying perfectly the horrors of such recent history. He got the balance just right. I would highly recommend both the trip and ‘Baboon’ our guide 👍
