Great time with great people
I booked two tours in Kampot with Butterly Tours : a motorbike tour and a bicycle tour. I had a great time with both of them. Thanks to Butterfly Tours, I had a glimpse of the real-life of the locals and I enjoyed it ! The guides were really nice and happy to share their knowledge about their country. Moreover, I also liked the fact that Butterfly Tours is a locally-run company trying to improve the lives of the locals. I highly recommend it !

awesome tours in kampot!
I stayed in Kampot and went on two tours with Butterfly Tours (one on a scooter, one on a bicycle). Both tours and guides were great. Highly recommended! Very easy to book, good communication.

Best tour in Cambodia
Butterfly tours were my first choice for tours in the area but we are staying in Kep rather than Kampot and so I had assumed we were too far out. We therefore booked a tour with our hotel and were thrilled when we were picked up by Butterfly Tours. Due to our location i think that our tour itinerary was a little different to those on the website. Within minutes our cheery guide Sam Ath explained what we would be doing. This was a little different to what our hotel had said but just an easy discussion later Sam Ath had checked with the tuk tuk driver and we had adapted our itinerary. Our first stop was Sothys Pepper Farm. We loved it! The farm is fully solar powered and organic. We got to try some different types of pepper and see some plants. They talked us through the planting, picking, drying and sorting process. Then back in our tuk tuk, quick stop for icecream and then on to Kampong Trach. Very interesting tour through the caves and mountains learning about history, plant life and traditional medicine. All the time Sam Ath took lots of great photos- a very talented photographer! We enjoyed a local lunch. The beef was delicious! After a relax in the hammocks over the river we took the scenic route back through Kep town and beach. As this tour marked the end of our holiday we were happy to splash out on higher prices than we had previously spent on tours but this was very good value for money, we would never have seen or learnt as much without such an excellent, attentive and professional guide. We highly recommend this company.

Kampot visit to Mangroves and Pepper Plantation
We had our tour booked through our travel guide so kind of custom tour. First up visit to Mangrove reforestation project where he got to plant 2 Mangroves for the future, very special thing to do. Great boat trip out to the sea and through the Mangroves back, could have had walk around but raining a lot. Then we went off to road to Kampot pepper farm. We stopped for lunch at this cool place on the side of the road called Khmer Root Cafe! These guys cooked up the most amazing food, wow is all I can say! It was pissing down with rain and we were having the most amazing lunch. Anyway after that we headed off to the Pepper Plantation called Bo Tree. We met some great people who told us all about the different kinds of pepper! Never knew anything about this before so pretty damn good! Raining so much so didnt get to see the plants but that's ok, we had knowledge and off to visit shop tomorrow. Then back to bumpy road and free massage all the way back. Our guide Sam Ath was great, asked lots of questions about Cambodians way of life etc and he's was very helpful answering. Would definetly recommend these guys and we are going to Battambang next where they have the same tours so will look into that too!

Cheerful guide
My guide spoke very good English. He was knowledgeable and very friendly. Great energy! Perhaps a little too chirpy at times, as it would have been nice to just enjoy the scenery etc. but that’s my personal preference. He was flexible with the tour in stopping a little longer at places if needed. Reasonably priced but perhaps could drop a few dollars off for what is included. The salt fields had no salt at the time. And we couldn’t go into the pepper field as it was raining. So that was disappointing. But we had a lovely lunch next to the secret lake! Very tasty.

Insightful custom tours of Kampot
I was interested in the history of Kampot and booked two tours with Butterfly Tours: the Heritage Walk and a half-day exploring the area’s rural pepper farms and salt fields. Chenda was on time for both tours and customized the tour, allowing me time to take photos and ask tons of questions. He was insightful without being dry and added much to my brief trip to Kampot. While Kampot is easy enough to walk on your own, hearing the stories behind individual buildings made it much more enjoyable.

A fantastic day!
Touring by bicycle is the best way to see the countryside. I loved this tour and a big part of it was my guide Makara. What a lovely guy! Enthusiastic, smiling and good humored. He was excellent company. Tour is as described but can stop and look at anything you want. It was very interesting to see rural Cambodian life, the farms and homes. Stopped at a excellent restaurant for lunch. The meal there was delicious with lovely view of the secret lake and cute dogs and cats to pet. Ride is very flat but roads are pretty rough in spots. It was pretty hot so be prepared to sweat. Makara ensured we took plenty of breaks in shade and water provided. He was also very aware of my safety. We had interesting conversations and I learned local history and life in Kampot. Returned exhausted dusty and happy. I highly recommend this tour.

Excellent full day bike tour around Kampot away from the crowds !
I had an absolutely excellent tour with Makara for the whole day -- passing through Salt Farms, Rice fields, a temple in a cave, the Secret Lake, a wonderful lunch at Khmer Root Cafe and finally the pepper farm visit at Bo Tree which was interesting and fun at the same time ! Makara was excellent - explaining each stop and making sure I was hydrated and OK. Good exercise mixed with beautiful countryside. Hope everyone does this tour as it is more authentic and fun than going around on a Tuk Tuk or a bus with many other tourists. Highly recommended if you want an authentic experience with locals !

Brilliant company. Brilliant tour.
This tour was excellent and we can’t recommend it enough. We had Chenda as our guide and Makara who was training to be a guide. Butterfly takes on university students and educates them up to be the guides and advocates for Cambodian life. We truly saw this in action. Chenda was fantastic at leading us on the tour but also ensured Makara had his moments to shine. You can do the same tour by tuk tuk but it wouldn’t be the same. The roads are mostly dirt tracks and so the tuk tuks shake you about somewhat. We also got to go even further off the beaten track by choosing to go by bike. All the stops are great and well timed. An early-ish start (8am pick up from your hotel) helps to beat some of the heat. We loved visiting the salt plains, cave temple, secret lake and pepper plantation. Lunch at Khmer Roots cafe overlooking the lake was delicious. Chenda use the full extent of his degree in agriculture and passion for Cambodia to give us a truly memorable experience. We measured the distance as 45km and it’s almost all flat. Admittedly it was slightly tough going at times. Not due to the distance or incline, but due to the heat. However that made it all the more enjoyable and rewarding. Butterfly were very upfront about how hot it would be in March. Both guides made sure we stopped regularly and whenever we wanted to take on water. Plus they both carried extra water for us throughout. You’ll love this wonderful adventure with a brilliant company.

Salt and pepper on three wheels
Given how hot it is in Kampot at the moment we opted to do this tour on a Tuk Tuk- making it a half day one. Our guide Chenda was brilliant, knowledgable and his English was fantastic. Our driver for the morning expertly navigated some difficult roads and drove really safely. Our highlights were the cave and the beautiful secret lake! A must do and a great way to explore Kampot 😊

Peppery adventures tour Kampot
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and our tour was just the two of us which we liked. Prices on the higher side versus what we’ve seen elsewhere but this included free water, a snack from a market, and a half day trip. We did the tour on a tuk tuk which was pleasant but my partner thought he had booked the motorbike tour - we didn’t complain as he wasn’t certain he’d specified motorbike rather than tuk tuk but despite this we still had a good trip and saw lots of interesting things. The tour included a visit to Bo Tree pepper farm which was excellent.

Interesting and varied tour
We did two tours with Butterfly in Battanbang, and funnily enough with the same guide (so sorry we can't remember his name!). He was a serious young man with a passion to impart knowledge but also a bit of a romantic. His colleagues joked that he was called "Slow". Our first tour was by tuk tuk to Phnom Sampeou where we climbed the mountain and visited the temples and the Killing Cave. It's a bit of as steep walk but our guide bought water for us as we needed and kept suggesting breaks. The Killing Cave was a horrific place for so many people who were thrown to their deaths here. The temples on top of the mountain have great views to the surrounding countryside and are also well populated by monkeys. The walk down the mountain is via the steps and then we set up to watch the nightly exit of thousands/millions of tiny bats in an amazing show of nature. It was definitely worth doing. We loved having a young university student guide who did his very best to answer our questions about Buddhism, the Khmer Rouge, Cambodian society etc. An interesting and varied afternoon.

Need improve so much
-Bicycle is too old and not maintained well. Too difficult go for 24km ride by this bike. Management team should buy proper one or maintain well. - guide training is not working well. Our guide is quite new. He is a student. He is friendly and kind but he doesn’t understand about this tour. He told us wrong information and it caused trouble . Management team should offer proper staff training to guide. Scenery and local people we visited during the tour were nice. However management team of this company should consider this poor service.

Interesting cycle, but overpriced
The peppery tour, which includes a cave temple visit, lunch at secret lake and a tour at the pepper plantation, is interesting enough, but could very easily be done without a guide. Or, if that is a bit too intrepid, then being guided is ok, but at a more reasonable price - we paid 39USD each for the tour. If you do take the tour make sure you have plenty of sunscreen - there is not much shade so you do need to be careful in the sun.
