    Old Quarter
Stop: 4 hours - Admission included
Located in the middle of Ha Noi, a rapidly developing city where changes take place every hour, Ha Noi Old Quarter with its old-styled narrow streets full of antique brick houses seems to nostalgically resist the flow of time while still actively trying to adapt to the dynamic atmosphere of the modern city. Once a bustling area where merchants and artisans gathered to sell their products, Ha Noi Old Quarter consists of many small, meandering streets, each bears the name of the goods that was specifically traded there such as Hang Bac (Silver Product), Hang Ma (Paper Product), Hang Go (Wood Product), just to name a few. Visiting this unique historical vestige comfortably lying around Hoan Kiem Lake, tourists get lost in a totally different world from the rest of the city and have the chance to explore the modest but energetic life of the local a hundred years ago, where there were no high-rise buildings, too much traffic or fancy stores; things will get a little bit smaller, as visitors may have used to those skyscrapers and shopping centers in other parts of the city, but not at all less lively and vigorous.

Highlights
  • Explore Hanoi’s Old Quarter by cyclo—and on foot—without price haggling
  • Experience Hanoi’s food, culture, and history with a local guide and small group
  • Sample street food from some of the most popular stalls and eateries
  • Choose from multiple departure times for maximum flexibility
What to Expect
Greet your guide in your Old Quarter hotel or at St. Joseph’s Cathedral to start your exploration of Hanoi’s 1,000-year-young Old Quarter, originally home to just 36 streets. Stop by the stalls and eateries locals love, watch the cooks at work, and taste their specialties. Learn how each Hanoi street was once reserved for different trades. After your walking tour, hop aboard a classic “cyclo” (bicycle rickshaw) to experience the bustle and whirl of downtown Hanoi’s cacophonous streets as your driver pedals through traffic. At the end of the tour, either carry on exploring independently or ask your guide to offer directions or arrange a taxi back to your hotel.

This was a great way to experience some of the local food around the old town of Hanoi. We tasted around 7 different dishes from different local restaurants that we probably wouldn’t have been brave enough to go into on our own. Our guide, Lucy, was fantastic, explaining all the
