About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- SWYUNG0 contributionsSuperb Chiang Mai food tourThis was an amazing food tour. Moui our guide spoke excellent English and was a great source of information. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about her native Northern Thai cuisine. We went on the lunch tour. She brought us around in a local red Thai jeepney so there was minimal walking. Highly recommended.Written 5 December 2024
- lsheffone0 contributionsBe prepared to be adventurous!!!This was definitely one of the top 3 food tours that I have ever done, anywhere in the world. We were taken to so many amazing and unusual places where foodies like Mark Wien and Anthony Bourdain have gone before, that if you had to put together the knowledge and transportation to visit- it would have taken days! Come with an empty stomach and be prepared to be adventurous!Written 19 November 2024
- jsfw-traveller0 contributionsFull of yummy treatsThe tour was very enjoyable. Our guide was very informative. Amazing amount of tastings, super interesting and super tasty. Our guide kept track of time very well. I wish we had more time as we had so many tastings. We loved every dishes. The experience was very good, I would definitely try other chef tours in other countries.Written 15 November 2024
- Summerholt0 contributionsAwesome culinary and cultural experienceI did the same lunch food tour last year when I came to Chiang Mai for the lantern festival. It was so good that I came back this year and repeat the same food tour as well. We went to five different locations and tried more than 15 different kinds of food. It's hard to believe you could eat that much, even though the tour lasted four hours. Toward the end we all had difficulties to eat more, as delicious as the food was. The last stop was a big farmer's market. We even tried the crickets and the silk worms. So if you always wanted to try them and couldn't sum up the courage, now it's your chance to do it in group! The food choices are diverse, mostly northern Thai. Be careful that it could be really spicy, especially the small chili peppers. The guide was very knowledgable. She told us a lot about the history of those dishes, some were brought in by immigrants. She also answered many cultural questions. She also provided us unlimited bottled water, hand wipes and alcohol spray. The tour is carried out in a Songthaew (a red truck taxi) and the max. number of people in each tour group is eight. When I come back to Chiang Mai next time, I might do it again! In the mean time, I will find "A Chef's Tour" at my other travel destinations.Written 13 November 2024
- 435callumg0 contributionsAmazing food tour!Absolutely delicious food! Fun to ride in a Songthaew as well. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Chiang Mai. Great to try some Northern Thai specialities.Written 11 November 2024
- P2646JQandrewl0 contributionsOur ideal food tour. This was everything we had hoped for. Nobody else booked so we had a private tour to ourselves! It was fun travelling around in the songthaew. But most of all we enjoyed learning about the background and history of the different northern Thai dishes and heading to family run restaurants that we wouldn’t have known about without doing many hours of research online beforehand. And the market tour to finish was fun, in a market with locals. So much food. We had a small breakfast before the tour to make sure we had room, but even that wasn’t needed as we tried so many things. And everything was so delicious.Written 10 November 2024
- Lloyd10670 contributionsTop Notch TourWe did the lunch tour starting at 10am. It was excellent. The food, the background about the food, the info about northern Thailand was all top notch. We have taken many food tours around the world and this was one of the best. Don’t miss it !Written 8 November 2024
- hapahaolegirl0 contributionsDo it!This was a very interesting and informative tour! We had already been to several restaurants and markets before taking this tour, but learning the history and the outside influences on Thai culture and food really enriched our understanding. Moui was a great Chef’s Tour guide. She was well- versed and very gracious. We really enjoyed her teaching us about Northern Thai cooking. The market she took us to was fantastic! A must-see cacophony of sights and sounds. My friend had been to Chiang Mai twice before and had never been to this local’s market. We highly recommend taking this tour and Moui as a guide.Written 29 September 2024
- Bears-and-Bronus0 contributionsNext levelI have done a couple of A Chef’s Tours and this one was especially good. The food was amazing, the guide was great and they go ahead with the tour even if there’s only one person on it that particular day/lunchtime. I had a wonderful tour with Moui. Highly recommend!Written 11 September 2024
- victoriadM7523DC0 contributionsThe Authentic Chiang Mai Food Tour!Amazing food tour - really well planned and executed. Some really delicious and unusual dishes. We were so full by the end!Written 7 August 2024
- gdcytokine0 contributionsExcellent food tourOur guide Moui was very friendly helpful and knowledgeable. She introduced us to so many wonderful and interesting food. Our favourite the was the larb salad with minced raw buffalo meat !Written 20 July 2024
- 392annmariem0 contributionsDO THIS ONE! It is amazingA wonderful experience! I was disappointed we didn't get into the "other" popular Northern tour, but I was so glad in the end! We tried an amazing array of traditional Northern Thai dishes. My favourite was the Kho soi ( such a rich broth and tender beef). We had up to 20 dishes! 2 I didn't like, but it was good to try!: Kham Nomjeen man Ngeow ( rice noodles with pork balls and ribs with chicken blood) or the water buffalo salad ( with offal). The vegan Shan (North Burmese) Tea leaf spicy salad was surprising and another favourite! We ended our tour having a picnic at the Tha-Nin Market which was lovely and clean and offered us many desserts and fruit to try. Moui was an amazing host. Excellent English, and wanting to share so much with us! Our driver took us from place to place, so we were not constrained to a small area. I highly recommend this tour!Written 24 June 2024
- Sightseer336929101740 contributionsWow!Ok, so this blew my expectations out the window. What a tour! Overall it was amazing and such good value, but there were a few things that really stood out for me. First of all: The combination of interesting and tasty. While the tour helped to show and explain so much about the cultural and ethnic diversity of Northern Thailand, most of the dishes were simply ridiculously tasty! A nod to Anthony Bourdain to start us off, some local dishes that I would have struggled to come across or order without any guidance (buffalo laarb, I’m looking at you!), the amazing tea leaf salad in a Shan neighbourhood, and yes… I thought I had eaten amazing crispy pork belly before but this was by far the best I’ve ever tasted! So many more bites and sweet treats to mention but yes, taste buds were overjoyed. Secondly: The diversity of food (and areas) was refreshing. From spicy to sweet, from complex to simple perfection, from easy approachable to challenging (yup, some fun curve balls haha)… I enjoyed that the guide showed such a broad palette of Thailand’s food heritage and took us to neighbourhoods and markets I probably never would have discovered during my stay in Chiang Mai. It left me with the feeling of having seen a bit of the real Chiang Mai. Thirdly: Enjoyable! Even though we tasted so much food and visited many different places, it never felt rushed or repetitious. I find that tours can sometimes feel a bit unnatural at times, or a bit too scripted so to say, but this was smooth as silk..... We had time to enjoy every stop with food and conversations and our guide would expand on any question and provide so much in-depth knowledge. Simply four hours of pure enjoyment! My strongest recommendation for anyone who want to get to know Northern Thailand a bit more. Or if you just love good food.Written 3 June 2024
- Robyn A0 contributionsBest food tour everMaui our guide was friendly and approachable right from the start. There was an extensive range of food with detailed explanations from Moui. She explained some of the local history and could answer all our questions. We did this our first day in Chiang Mai and the tour gave us a good perspective of what to eat and where as well as the general layout of the city. We did the morning tour and enjoyed every bite. There was more than enough food. We certainly recommend this to others.Written 14 May 2024

What a great tour, it was great that we had a truck take us around during the tour as we got to see many different sites and food vendors that would not have been possible by walking. The tour through the market was very interesting and our guide, Moui, pointed out many things of interest and let us try different foods. Moui had great information about the local culture and food and was passionate about what she did. She was a great guide. I would highly recommend this tour for people that want some insight into the food culture of Chiang Mia.

Awesome intro to Norther Thai Food. The market tour was FASCINATING, and the food was delicious and plentiful. It was a really great experience and make me more comfortable with shopping at food stalls by being more familiar with the items. Definitely recommend. Incredible value for the time and transportation!

The impact of coronavirus on Thailand tourism meant that we were spoiled to have Moui to ourselves. She was kind and interested, clearly loves food and is so knowledgeable and (rightly) proud of north Thailand cusine. The pork leg, roast chicken and pork belly were standouts along with the markets where we even tried dried buffalo skin (think pork crackle) - but the betel leaf packages in particular blew my mind magically uniting strongly disparate flavours of fresh lime, ginger and chilli chunks in one small mouthful. Support this small business and book.

Thanks for this amazing tour. Great way to start 6 days in Chiang Mai as it gave us plenty of ideas on how to eat our way through the city. Moui was amazing in her knowledge of the food in the area and really accommodating to all in our group. The tour was amazing value for money, tasting 20+ different dishes, condiments etc. A must do.

While I have been living in Chiang Mai for over a month, I decided to give this tour a try as I heard great things about it and wanted to know some restaurants I may not know about. The tour ran from 5 pm to 9 pm.
You get to sample a variety of northern Thai dishes and snacks, including laab, stewed pork and rice, grilled pork belly, fish, durian, and Shan/Tai Yai food among others. Do not eat much before coming on this tour as you will find it hard to finish all of the food! The guide was very knowledgeable about the food and also the history of Chiang Mai itself. She was polite and provided plenty of water and tissue.
This tour is a fantastic way to not only be introduced to the food of northern Thailand as well as get a bit of knowledge about the cuisine and the people behind it. I would highly recommend this tour and plan on going on other A Chef's Tour guides!

What can i say! A really comprehensive guide around Chang Mai’s best spots, discovering some amazing thai dishes cooked by local businesses that love what they do! My favourite place was the pork belly spot, was on another level! The tour guide was great, telling us lots of interesting facts about the food, local area, and thai culture in general. Would highly recommend this tour to anybody going to Chiang Mai who loves thai food, a great way to see the city and discover some of the best food the city has to offer!

We did this tour the first night we arrived in Chiang Mia. Our guide led us to an itinerary of stalls, restaurants, and markets that frankly I would never have been able to schedule on my own even with hours and hours of research and preparation. Our guide was so knowledgeable and provided historic, culinary, and personal information on what we were eating. The final star of the show was the food! Dishes that locals eat but all presented at clean and friendly locations. I would highly recommend this tour to introduce yourself to Chiang Mai cuisine beyond Khao Soi!

My girlfriend and I had an amazing time on the food tour. Great to be driven around in the Songthaew Truck, as given the size of Chiang Mai, a lot of time would be wasted trying to walk to different locations or you would be quite restricted in where you could travel to. Each dish was delicious! Stand out was the crispy pork belly and chicken cooked in the large jars! The tour guide explained each dish and a lot about the culture of Northern Thailand, which helps to give a bit of context to everything. Try to come as hungry as possible if you can, as there will be way too much food to eat. Everything that wasn't eaten was either offered to be taken home by tour guests, or given to the Songthaew Truck Driver (which is great!). Highly recommend. A much deeper look at Thai food, than your typical, pad thai, green curry, red curry etc.

Excellent tour! We enjoyed the Bangkok tours so much we decided to book in Chiang Mai also.
Moui, our tour guide, shared so many new food experiences at a market, restaurant and food stalls. I loved that she showed us ingredients in their raw form at the market before we ate them in dishes later on. We also enjoyed foods from restaurants we never would have found on our own.
A Chef’s Tour provides a unique and well planned experience that is a great overview to the foods in an area. Try to book for your first day in town.

Fantastic food tour taken around ChiangMai in a tuktuk style van, our guide was lovely, warm & super knowledgeable, told us a lot of information and answered all our questions. Was super helpful and produced water, wet wipes and tissues at every venue and also provided face masks for certain spots when they were needed as we forgot ours. The food spots we were taken to had amazing tasty food and were all quite different. We were not expecting such large portions so please go with an empty stomach, we recommend you skip lunch! We lost count of the amount of great places we were taken to including a couple of Michelin starred ones. All the chefs we came across were super friendly and we had such a good time. Desserts and fruit we didn’t eat were given to us to take home. There was a couple of opportunities to buy extra stuff in the market if you wanted to. There was no pressure to do so we just really enjoyed what we ate and wanted to make sure we could eat more! We ended up taking home a lot of stuff with us including super full stomachs! Can’t highly recommend enough.
