About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Joanna B0 contributionsWell worth booking for a Phuket arrival.Delightful young lady who met us just before passport control; took us through empty fast track, avoiding a long queue. Waited to collect our luggage; insisted on pushing trolley to find our transfer company and waited again until we were loaded up. Polite, welcoming and offered us excellent calm service.Written 14 February 2025
- kennyd9450 contributionsValentines DayFood was good. Service was great. Top of the boat was not open so view was compromised. Entertainment was very good. Has to go downstairs to get seafood and was limited to one shrimp on a plate.Written 14 February 2025
- A7752LHkevinl0 contributionsAwesome ExperienceWhat a great dinner cruise, we couldn’t fault this experience at all. The food was amazing with a large variety to suit all tastes. The staff were very helpful, they even shelled our prawns for us! The traditional Thai dancing & singers were very entertaining. This is a smaller boat so there are less people, boarding and queuing for food was easy. I highly recommend this dinner cruise.Written 14 February 2025
- yorkwhite210 contributionsGreat way to see Bangkok at nightWe went on the Saffron river cruise as we were staying at the Banyan Tree hotel and this is connected with it. The food was pretty good considering they were serving so many people at the same time, and the service was typical Thai, charming and efficientWritten 14 February 2025
- Sherry D0 contributionsOverall great time!Great fun, food, overall experience. Staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive. The views up and down the river were beautiful. We took the trip at sunset, for some great photos.Written 13 February 2025
- warren1260 contributionsWonderfulLet’s be brutally honest- we had seen some of the poorer reviews but weighing up versus the good ones we booked it to take a chance rather than opting for the booming music boat trips that sail up and down the river. So, tonight we have had the most wonderful trip celebrating my good lady’s 60th birthday and there is nothing but praise to be given. Although there was slight miscommunication before we set off in relation to our meals, there was nothing to fund fault. The free boat transfer is great because getting to the starting point by road would be a nightmare. On the boat, once the staff realised we weren’t seafood lovers, they provided an excellent alternative - 6 courses overall as well as birthday girl surprise with a cake. Food was top drawer, staff were all superb, the atmosphere is spot on whilst meeting the chef at the end made it all the more worthwhile. Yes, the drinks cost more buts that’s why you are on a luxury fine dining cruise and not a back street pub in downtown Bangkok! Thank you to everyone for making our evening special.Written 13 February 2025
- Culture322787922530 contributionsInteresting experience but with a few disappointments.Booked trip easily through Viatour. Collected from Bangkok on time and all arrangements went very smoothly until our train ride on day 2 and return trip with our guide to Bangkok. The guide who we met at Kanchanaburi restaurant to take us to Resotel was brilliant - friendly, attentive and informative. He was very helpful and caring with us when getting in/out of the longtail boats. On day 2 he was excellent when taking us around the Mon village. We learnt much about village life. His name is Ka (nit sure of spelling). Our guide to and from Bangkok was NOT impressive. His presentation on the bus was poor. It was not helped by bus microphone being distorted. When our Train was delayed on day 2 , he did not keep our group updated as to what was happening. We learnt about the delay from other guides with other groups. Once on the train, he looked at his phone and fell asleep. Other guides were pointing things out, scenery and landmarks. If it hadn’t been for him we would have given this experience 5 * but he he really spoilt the experience and let the company down.Written 13 February 2025

Our adventure with Gray’s Cave Canoeing in Thailand was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us with warm smiles and professionalism, ensuring we felt comfortable and well-prepared for the journey ahead. Their knowledge of the area, combined with their friendly and accommodating nature, made the entire experience even more enjoyable. The canoeing itself was absolutely breathtaking. Paddling through the stunning limestone caves and tranquil lagoons felt like stepping into a hidden paradise. The scenery was otherworldly, with towering cliffs, emerald-green waters, and a peaceful ambiance that truly allowed us to connect with nature. The guides were not only skilled but also passionate, sharing fascinating insights about the caves and local wildlife along the way. To top off this incredible excursion, the meal provided was delicious and exceeded our expectations. The food was fresh, flavorful, and authentically Thai, making for the perfect ending to an already amazing day. Gray’s Cave Canoeing is an experience I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Thailand. We loved our day at the River Kwai. The guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the bridge and the legendary railway built during the Second World War. We also had a great lunch buffet. My only downside, the train journey is a little long for the quality of the train. It was very uncomfortable and zero air conditioned. And we had to pay an extra ten dollars per person to have access to the most comfortable part (which was not at all). I can't imagine the free part. But since it was an antique train, that was part of the charm.

The itinerary is very good and value for money is good. We enjoyed the museum, boat, train and lunch. You will be asked to pay an additional 300 baht each to secure seats on the train, that seems to be the case whoever you travel with. The only things that stopped this being a 5 star review were ...... a. The transport was very cramped, we felt very crowded in. b. The guide was, at times, quite rude. His jokes were in very poor taste and he made quite a few personal remarks that were not pleasant. Again he may have thought he was being funny but he really wasn't. Otherwise I would recommend the trip itself and can't fault the organization and communication from the company.

Dear Kathy,
Thanks for your comments today and its great to read that your overall enjoyed the tour.
You are correct its 300 Baht if you like a seat on the train, if you want to stand then there is no charge, which is mentioned on the website.
I am sorry for the guide but maybe he did not know he may have offended you but we will take action on this,
Regards,
Nick

This was a very Informative Tour with in-depth knowledge from our guide Mr. Rach. It was a long day but definitely worth it. Our hotel pick up was exactly on time in a very comfortable Van with a great driver. It is quite a drive to get to the River Kwai but we had plenty of comfort stops at locations with western toilets and mini marts. Mr. Rach provided an extensive amount of history on the WWII occupation by the Japanese and the stops that we would be making. Going as far as showing up digital photos of the locations before we got there.
We did everything in the itinerary and everything was included. We were offered the option to increase our included economy class train ticket to a first class assigned seat ticket for 300bhat a person however it was our option not required. We chose to pay the extra for the first class seat and I am glad we did as the train was very crowded and I am not sure we would have been sitting together if we had not. The first class ticket was paid directly to the train conductor after we were seated. It also included a bottle of water and a packaged snack. Definitely worth it in my opinion.
Stops included: Jeath War Museum in Kanchanaburi (very moving and informative. Mr. Rach was so knowledgeable that people from other tours started fallowing along to hear his information.) Longtail boat ride on the River Kwai that allows you to see the Bridge from underneath, 1 hour plus train ride that takes you over the Bridge to the Cave where the POW's took shelter (now a temple with Buddha Statue), Short walk on the tracks back to lunch. Lunch has a view of the River Kwai (good lunch included with coffee or tea....soda and beer etc are available at your own expense), Van ride back to the Bridge over the river Kwai (where you got on the train), Walking on the bridge, Van ride to the Cemetery in Memory of POW's who died building the Railway, Transport back to Bangkok once again with comfort stops.
This is a very inclusive trip with lots of experiences included. Mr. Rach sent us tons of fabulous pics via what's app after the tour. I highly recommend this tour. If you want to see my videos you can check them out at my YouTube Channel Kimberley Cleland Travels

Tour with Racha our guide was brilliant - absolutely covered everything you could want in a trip to Kwai (hence 3 stars). Definitely recommend a trip to the area but maybe not with IAsia Its a pity the Company (IAsia) was not as good as their guide!.
Company communication poor - trip starts 6.30am despite being advertised as 7.00am. When questioned, abruptly told, you can change but likely to miss Death Railway! No communication day prior to trip - I had to contact them.
The vehicle they provided for a private tour @ a premium price was barely fit for purpose. No full seatbelts, damaged and rusty paintwork, dirty and torn upholstery noisy, uncomfortable and not appropriate for 2 people (old shabby mini bus. Need to reinvest some of their profits into a saloon car or SUV!

Dear lindasL9817SA, (Linda)
Thanks for your review but its a shame you did not mention anything to the guide, let me explain after investigating.
Our communication was not poor, we sent you the confirmation through Viator which YOU responded too. As per the website, the tour starts at 07.00am, but hotel picks up starts before. Here is the proof and my reply to you.
https://paste.pics/QMMPS
We advised you if you wanted to go later you may miss part of the tour, my team were correct to inform you. We then messaged you that we can go a bit later at 06.45 then YOU messaged us saying you will go at 630am. You even asked us for toilet stop which we confirmed, here is more proof.
https://paste.pics/QMMQ6
You said we did not communicate to you about the trip, you are wrong, please see proof number 3
https://paste.pics/QMMQ0
We sent a VAN and all seats have seatbelts, these are seatbelts that are like airline seats and are cross the waist. We dont agree that this had "rusty paintwork, damaged upholstery etc. Please show us some PROOF. Even if this was the case, why did you NOT say anything to the guide? Why not ask the guide to change the vehicle? You accepted and went on the tour.
We keep records and I suggest that before you tell the public "use a different company" you show some proof or speak to the guide about this first?
Thanks,
Paul

This tour was brilliant! Rach, our tour guide, was full of so much knowledge that the journey to Kanchanaburi flew by and we learnt a lot about the history of the POW, the bridge etc. We spent time in the war cemetery which was absolutely immaculate! The museum was small, but enough to be able to have a quick look around. We then did a boat trip to the bridge itself which was a great experience. We got the opportunity to walk across the bridge before boarding the train. The train was a great experience (if you’re offered the upgraded seat, would highly recommend you accept this!!) The views were beautiful and once over the death railway crossing we got the chance to walk along here before grabbing some lunch which was freshly cooked and offered a variety of choices. Rach spent the day taking photos and videos, which were all sent to us as my the end of the day, which was a great idea! Overall, we really enjoyed this trip. Anyone who has any links or interest in WW2, POW or the bridge over the river Kwai, or anyone who just wants to do something different, we would highly recommend this tour! Special mention to our driver also (whose name I have forgotten, so sorry!) who drove us around all day and was a very safe driver - thank you! The only thing to be aware of is traffic once heading back to Bangkok can be very heavy, as we found out! So don’t make any plans for the evening. Great day had with Rach and our driver also - thank you both for a great experience! 😌

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review of the Bridge on the River Kwai and Thailand-Burma Railway Tour! We’re so glad to hear that you had a brilliant experience and enjoyed the rich history shared by Rach, your tour guide. It’s great to know that his knowledge and storytelling made the journey fly by while giving you meaningful insights into the POWs and the bridge.
We’re delighted that you appreciated all the stops, from the immaculate war cemetery and museum to the boat ride and the train journey with upgraded seating—thank you for recommending that to future travelers! The freshly cooked lunch and Rach’s personal touch of capturing and sharing memories clearly made the day even more special.
A big thank you for highlighting the efforts of your driver, too—we’ll make sure your kind words are shared with him and Rach. Traffic in Bangkok can indeed be tricky, and we appreciate your advice for future guests to plan accordingly.
Thank you once again for recommending our tour to history enthusiasts and adventurers alike. It was a pleasure to have you with us, and we hope to welcome you back for more memorable experiences in the future!
Thanks,
Nick (IAsia Thailand Online)

It is good to see all of this.
We were picked up at 6am and then had to wait for the guide at a service station.
We would have preferred longer at the graveyard to pay our respects.
Also very confusing over the extra money to get a seat on the train as you pay it to someone in a bus shelter who gives you a sticker. Then you get in the train there are plenty of seats but you are restricted where you can seat anyway. Very strange.
Not sure the boat ride was worth it.
Enjoyed the tour as a whole as it was something we wanted to do.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review.
You can at anytime speak to the guide who would have waited longer at the cemetery if you asked, thats no problem.
As per the website there is an extra charge of 300 Baht per person for the train ride and you pay this locally.
Thanks,

We expected there to be others on the tour but it turned out to be just my best friend and I, however it was amazing. Our tour guide was so kind and funny from the moment we got picked up, so the whole day was great fun. We were well looked after and actually felt a little sad when the trip ended.
He explained the whole day to us when we got to the car and it went exactly to plan. We did stop for petrol as mentioned before we set off at a services which had lots of options for breakfast and our guide bought us a cake to try. We didn't mind stopping as obviously a van needs petrol and we got to stretch our legs.
We visited the war memorial cemetery and Jeath museum before getting on a boat. This was my favourite part of the day. Afterwards we got time to see the bridge. It was very touristy and busy so our guide left us enough time to look around before catching the train. It is optional, but paying the extra 100 bahts per person to guarantee a seat I highly recommend. It is a lovely train ride with beautiful views but if you are left standing for 90 minutes, that would be tough. We arrived and went to the Krasae cave. We did pray (optional with no judgement) before having a nice buffet lunch which catered for all, considering I am very fussy. We then had a 3 hour drive back to our accomodation.
Overall it was a lovely day out and we were back by 4pm so were able to enjoy our evening exploring close by. Our guides English was incredible, better than our Thai for sure, and he told us so many facts, even ones not related to the trip as we were just in the car going to and from locations. It was nice to be told so much knowledge. He also took pictures of us throughout the day so we have a lot of memories to look back on from the trip.
Best trip in a long time.

The historical journey on the “Death Railway” from the old southern Thonburi train Station in Bangkok Kanchanaburi to its very north western end stop of Nam Tok Station in Kanchanaburi.
An enlightening journey that rocks, rolls, clatters & trundles along for a solid two & a half to three hours to Kanchanaburi Station or onward for a further one & a half to two hours to the end of the line at Nam Tok.
All touring passengers can alight from the two trains daily in both directions at any station of their choosing. There is an additional third train that runs daily in both directions from Kanchanaburi Station to Nam Tok thus affording tourists to experience the most interesting & historical sites of the Death Railway & the infamous Bridge Over The River Kwai as well as the deadly & precariously built Wampo viaduct along with some other sights to behold.
Once in Nam Tok you can take a shuttle bus, taxi, shared transport or private tour as well as an unreliable often late local bus to “Hell Fire Pass” the museum & 3 kilometres hike around the pass & back (6 kilometres in all) so about 4 miles in the heat with plenty of mosquitos for company.
In summary a sobering few days touring to bear witness to what Allied Forces POW’s suffered between 1939 & 1946 during WW2.
Obviously the history evidences that the Japanese army oversaw the POW’s construction of the Death Railway section of the Thailand Burma mainline for a shorter period of time during WW2. All is well laid out at various historical points through the mind boggling journey.
What our Allied Forces suffered during their POW internment is unimaginable & horrendous. Well worth taking one’s time to bear witness to carnage that was their world & to salute their brave yet ultimately tragic sacrifice.
Highly recommend the train journey in both directions as well as walking certain sections of the track. Optimal to take 2-3 days to do justice to the historical happenings in the region.

Communication was great. Pick up and rendezvous with the bus was smooth. Early start though at 0600! Staff were friendly and the guide, Rach, was very knowledgeable about the history behind the tour. Plenty of comfort stops as well which was great as many hours were spent in the bus to and from the River Kwai area.
Only things we would change would be a bigger, better more modern bus for the journey. It was small, cramped and old and vibrated/rattled the whole journey.

It is an incredibly good excursion to spend a full day, recommended, the OOM guide very professional and attentive, all I explain wonderfully. The visit to the war museum is unique and the bridge over the Kwai River stunning, ride on the death railway is a pass. Just getting up early would be the only catch.... Super recommended

Ola Fernando,

Unfortunately not. I feel this would have added to the trip. Next time I would choose one that included them especially if you are Australian.
