- benmA1313FY0 contributionsAuthentic Morrocan cookery experience!!!Kawtar and Khmisa's cookery class was such a great authentic experience, and with a really nice group of people from Italy, Holland, Bulgaria, Germany, South Africa and us from the UK. Buying the ingredients from the souk was a lot of fun. On arrival at Khmisa's house we were shown how to make (and pour from a great height!!!) traditional Morrocan tea, and then we all jointly prepared four starters, and two tagines (vegetarian and chicken). Every step was clearly explained with lots of useful cooking tips. Then the best bit... eating! The food was amazing and so were our hosts. Highly recommend you give this a go when in Marrakech.Written 15 January 2024
- 153arisp0 contributionsNot for Vegetarians.I'm awarding 3 stars simply because the niece and auntie were such warm and lovely people. However, this was NOT really a vegetarian and vegan class, although we did produce a simple vegetarian tagine and starter, similar to a vegetable accompaniment to a normal meal. I'm sure the 10 other members of our group enjoyed the class, as they were meat eaters, and marinated chicken (!!!!) provided the substance. Having sampled really delicious vegetable tagines at our hotel, my husband and I were looking forward to discovering how to reproduce some of the wonderful bean, chickpea and pulse tagines served there, which provide the vital protein for vegetarians. Colourful though the simple vegetable tagine was, sadly, the class provided no protein dish for us, even avoiding couscous as (I was told) it "takes too long to prepare" As a vegetarian and vegan class, it seemed odd that 10 of the 12 members were meat eaters and it was they for whom the class was designed! We returned to our hotel for a hearty lunch as we were both hungry after our meal at the class. But most importantly, we were disappointed! People who are NOT vegetarians themselves, but profess to provide vegetarian food must understand that rabbit food alone does not sustain a healthy body, nor does it provide a satisfying meal. The class we attended would warrant no more than 2 stars, awarded for the starter and yogurt and fruit desert. I wish good luck to Dounia Alaoui and her lovely auntie, but PLEASE only advertise a vegetarian and vegan class if you understand the dietary requirements. As Christmas holiday tourists, we only had time for only 1 class and feel we have missed the opportunity to learn how to replicate the lovely food, flavoured with all your wonderful moroccon herbs and spices, with which we had fallen in love.Written 2 January 2024
- 945gracieg0 contributionsGreat experienceWe had a great time at the cooking class. Shopped for ingredients and then went to a local home and learnt how to cook starters, tagine and desert. Highly recommendWritten 17 December 2023

- tomask2090 contributionsGreat starting point into Moroccan flavoursWe learned a lot about the traditional moroccan cuisine and together with our wonderful hosts made a nice set of starters and the best ever veggie tagine. We also got the recipes and will make the dishes we learned again and again.Written 7 April 2023
- Tourist1859110 contributionsBest food in MoroccoWe booked the vegetarian option (note: the class also cooked meat). It was the best food we had in Morocco, Kawtar and Khmisa are great hosts. We now have some new recipes can't wait to try at home.Written 4 March 2023
- A2953ULsimonep0 contributionsExcellent experience. Definitely recommend!!! A+I loved every part of this cooking class. Especially the aunty laughing and making jokes. The food was all absolutely delicious and I love that we were sent the recipes the next day with a warm thank you message. They made us feel so at home the whole time and the time flew. I will definitely be making the recipes at home very soon.Written 8 January 2023
- 83DegreesNorth0 contributionsLearned loads while cooking lunch!Informative, hands-on class with 8 people. Cooked several delicious starters and a tagine. The setting is a simple room in someone’s house, not a glitzy kitchen, but as a result it felt authentic.Written 30 December 2022
- aleksanndrk0 contributionsFeedbackWe enjoyed the cooking class. Learned to make 4 starters and 1 tajine. Very friendly approach and overall environmentWritten 25 December 2022
- parisp9030 contributionsFun and yumReally nice people and the food was delicious. 100% recommend. It is not all veggie/ vegan tho. So expect a small amount of meat.Written 15 December 2022
- Patrick-Lefevre19710 contributionsI want to book this experience againAlthough the workshop was not entirely veggie/vegan, it hasn't bothered me for a moment. About 95% was veggie, which is great. The cooking was interesting, fun and the chefs really did their best to include everyone in the process at all times. In fact, this was such a nice experience, I'm already thinking about booking another session before I go home.Written 20 November 2022
- Zurich27320 contributionsFun authentic cooking experienceA great experience with Kawtar and her aunt learning to cook a variety of different Moroccan dishes in a traditional Moroccan home. The trip to the market was nice but the highlight was preparing the food in the group and the lunch was really delicious! I would definitely recommend it to all ages from teens and above.Written 14 August 2022
- nepxh040 contributionsNot exclusively vegan/vegetarian which is what we bookedBased on the title I was expecting the group to all be vegan or vegetarian which they weren’t. The group was a lovely group but it should have been advised up front that it wasn’t exclusively vegan/vegetarian. Our 2 hosts were very pleasant and got everyone involved. The food was also very good, if on the slightly small portion size…maybe do a little more as I felt a few people could have eaten more. We received the recipes the next day which was great. You are cooking on someone’s house basically. So bear that in mind, it isn’t a hotel or even a modern riad so wasn’t what we expected at all but it was fine. No alcohol, which was a shame as a glass of wine would have been nice. I know that some other cookery courses include wine. Did we enjoy it, yes absolutely. Would we choose it again, I don’t think so. But if you want rustic/authentic then this does the job perfectly.Written 2 June 2022
- 301benniw0 contributionsAuthentic Moroccan cooking experienceThe cooking class was great fun. It included a quite interesting shopping trip to the not so touristic market to get some fresh vegetables. Being 6 'students' everybody contributed to the several delicious starters and the veggie tagine. We learned about the different spices and herbs, and how to use them. And the result was so good!Written 30 May 2022
- dorotheag7150 contributionsBest food I've ever had a hand in cookingCooking with Dounia was an amazing opportunity to learn about Moroccan culture while also learning to make delicious new (to us) dishes. She was warm and made us all feel incredibly at ease from the first. Even my 8 year old son loved the experience AND the food. Definitely a highlight of our trip to this great city.Written 13 April 2022
