What a Ride! We booked this because it was highly recommended by a friend but I’d never been in a helicopter before and at first I thought it was pricey, but I booked it anyways with my daughter. Thank God I did because it was the highlight of our trip! Well worth the money spent because you get to see everything even where other excursions bring you. The open door was so awesome to see all around. Jeff our pilot was born in Oahu and was so wonderful, funny and full of information, he made us feel very safe and having him definitely added to the experience, we were lucky! All the members who prepared us were very professional and you could tell they loved what they did and had a great working dynamic atmosphere with each other. After the tour they spent time to get to know us a bit and gave us advise on our vacation. My daughter wants to go to school here to become a marine biologist and they gave us so much advise we felt like family. She’s planning to apply to work there in the future too lol! Jeff and the team at Magnum are GOLD! Highly highly recommend this tour!

We had a great time and enjoyed seeing the sights from the air. Upon arrival you check all your items in a locker. If you have a lanyard with a phone pouch to fit your phone in bring it, otherwise you will have to purchase one there for $10. You can’t just hold your phone in your hand. We also had to watch a 10 minute video. Than shortly after got into our Heli. They took pictures before takeoff and they have a video going during the flight. You can purchase pictures and the video for $85 which was reasonable. The Pilot did take a couple of sharp turns so if you get easily nauseated I would recommend taking a Dramamine one hour prior to your flight. I did and it helped. My son did get nauseated and he did not take anything. They give you a number and your seating is based on your weight. Enjoy the experience👍

My sister and I had a fantastic time on a recent flight, the crew was friendly, professional and all about safety from start to finish. We were warmly greeted by a few staff, the. We were given some time to take photos with a Magnum type Ferrari (we brought our own mustaches) . We got a chance to film a Magnum style video in the Ferrari with a green screen background so graphics could be added in later. great keepsake) before a serious safety video and briefing. We were asked if we had any questions a few times to make sure we understood and has the chance to ask about something if we we concerned.
Once out on the flight line, the crew took care of everything, from escorting us out safely, to offering googles, to assisting with seatbelt harness and headsets.
We chose the 50 minute flight around Oahu, doors off. Evan, our pilot, was great, just the right combination of offering information and pointing out highlights without getting “in the way”
We took hundreds of pictures -camera phones needed to be placed in a protective see through case with a lanyard to prevent us from dropping the phone in flight.
They also had an extensive gift shop with shirts, hats, jackets, and a display of some Magnum P.I. Show memorabilia
and toys.
We bought the video that captured OUR flight, they use four cameras.
This was one of the highlights of our Hawaiian vacation!

It was an exhilarating experience. My wife and I took a helicopter tour over the Grand Canyon last year, yet it wasn’t a “doors off” experience. Having no doors on the helicopter made a big, wonderful difference. We booked the “first class” tour, which means it is more expensive, and also means you sit up front. We are so glad we did so. Seeing out the front window added so much to the experience, as did being right next to the pilot. Brandon was our pilot, and he was excellent, very competent - and immensely charming. He added so much to an already amazing experience. The communication prior to the event was excellent. On the experience itself, words fail me. I found it profoundly moving; one of the most powerful things I’ve ever experienced. I didn’t expect that. We have been on the island for 9 days, and we have taken many tours, and I dare say this was the most affecting. Splurge and take the “doors off” experience; you will not regret it.

The whole team at Magnum is very professional and kind. Herb was our pilot and did a great job explaining what we were seeing and a bit of history too. This is a well-run operation which I can easily recommend to anyone considering a great helicopter experience in Oahu. We will definitely be back!

What an amazing way to see Oahu! We did this the day after we arrived, and it was the perfect time to get an island tour - from the sky! Our pilot, Jeff, was amazing! He was so informative and being a native he knew so much about the island. Doors off is the way to go! We were so grateful to have seen Pearl Harbor from above because the day we went there it was so windy and so choppy that it was hard to see the sunken USS Arizona from the memorial that sits above the ship, but we had seen it from the helicopter tour where you could really see it well! We opted to purchase the video footage from the helicopter as it came out way better than our photos/video. This was a great experience, thank you Magnum, the ground crew, and especially Jeff the pilot!

Ok. I am going to be completely honest with my review. I am afraid of heights and had read previous reviews that the pilot made others feel comfortable so still decided to book it. I was terrified. I did not enjoy my experience but I put on my big girl pants and got through it. We paid for the first class seating so I was up in the front next to the pilot and my husband to my right with the open door. He had just a small handle to hold onto and my death grip with his other hand. I had the timer in front of me so it was the longest 60 minutes of my life. The pilot Doug was aware of my fright and did his best to make me feel safer. From what I could enjoy the views were incredible and we were able to see many film locations that included Gilligan’s Island, Jurassic Park and King Kong.
Overall, the only reason why I gave it 3 stars was because of MY personal experience. The entire staff and the flight crew was awesome. It may have been different if the doors were on, but who knows if I would still have been scared.
I just wanted to be honest if there is anyone else asking the same questions I was prior to booking.

We went to Magnum after seeing the iconic Island Hoppers MD500 from our television youth flying past on our first day and after a little research, realized this looked like a first class operation. We had what we thought was a very unusual request so we went directly to the hangar. Mom was a big fan of Magnum P.I. and the show always made her dream of going to Hawaii. We had our first Oahu vacation in the 80s and my parents went back including all the other islands many times over the years and always took a helicopter ride.
After we lost Mom it had been a real challenge to get her ashes back to Hawaii and spread her in the ocean off Oahu with all of the Covid lockdowns. We thought that we would be politely refused to take her on one last ride and drop her off in the sea as I promised. We were surprised that "ash drops" are actually not all that uncommon and immediately booked a time slot after a very nice discussion with the young lady.
We brought Mom along in a traditional Hawaiian Pūolu for a truly magical last ride with Brandon. The ground crew was very respectful of what we were doing and we went over the flight plan and a couple of options where we could take care of Mom's final wishes. Brandon somehow arranged for the weather to be just right for us (we also think Mom might have helped too) and we were able to see alot of the island that is normally covered with clouds. I've had quite a bit of time in this type of helicopter for work related charters and can honestly say you have never flown in a helicopter until you do it with DOORS OFF! There is just nothing else to compare it to - unobstructed views and some great footage from the in flight video (yes, you definitely want to get the video!) We wrapped up the flight by dropping Mom into the sea and headed back to the FBO. Brandon was a very good pilot and shared his knowledge of his home Island with us. He truly made a somewhat solemn occasion into a magical day that we will never forget. You bet we will be back for another ride with Magnum on our next visit, and you should too!

Wow, what an incredible experience! We did the doors off tour during our recent trip to Oahu, and I must say it was the highlight of our trip. We did the 3 pm tour on a weekday and booking was easy and the company was really helpful on the phone. We used a Groupon code to get a discount and it was really easy to apply it to our booking. The best views we saw on the tour were turtles swimming in the ocean, the waterfall in the jungle, and getting to see pearl harbor from the air was cool! *Definitely recommend wearing a windbreaker and even sweat pants if you get cold easily!*

Very experienced, informative and delightful pilot/crew. Be sure to wear sunglasses and if you don't have a clear pouch to put your phone/camera in, you can buy one there for $10. Nothing can be in your pockets and be sure not to stick anything (camera, arm, etc.) outside the helicopter. Think of what would happen if you tried to stick your phone just outside a car door when you're going 120mph. Their rules are to keep you (and those on the ground below) safe. Also, it's much cooler at higher altitude, so bring a jacket or fleece (they have a rack of used coats in case you forget).
Overall, a thrilling experience and no better way to see the island - especially the sunken USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor. [The island of Oahu suggests wearing masks and social distancing but no longer enforces it as of this review.]

Hello! Are there any height restrictions? Planning on booking with someone who is 6’8, want to make sure they’ll fit or be allowed. Thank you :)
Dave C

I don’t know if they have height restrictions but at 5 ft 9 in it was tight with my legs in the back. I also had a hip replaced two months before so that leg didn’t bend as comfortably. The front would be better. But they do place people in seats based on weight to balance the helicopter that might mean they have to sit in the back.
It’s great thing to do if you can. Especially when you first get to the island because it gives you a geographical overview.
Can we purchase video of our flight?

Yes, you can. Alternatively my daughter recorded it all on her phone and with video going you can click pictures anytime without losing recording. Our guide was nice enough to point that option out to us.

In my opinion It will be more of a seat size and comfort concern .
Website info
Note: First Class seats(front seats - size issues with seats) are only sold in pairs, and there is a combined weight limit of 340 lbs for the two first class seats.
Rear seats may not be an issue for youi believe the doors off allows for extra width. I'm not sure if I would have fit in if the doors were on.
Passengers over 250 lbs may be subject to a capacity fee.
Passengers over 300 lbs may need to purchase a comfort seat.
I will be in honolulu march 19-26 do you provide transportation from my hotel and back after the flight?

I would LOVE to book a tour but I am hesitant because I am prone to motion sickness. I can not even go on a roller coaster without feeling dizzy after. Has anyone who is prone to motion sickness or vertigo taken this tour and if so how did you feel during and after your ride.. please be honest.. I don’t mind spending the money but I really do not want to get motion sickness I. The first five minutes and suffer through the rest of the ride... thank you in advance for your honest opinion..

I loved the ride, I have a slight fear of heights, but once you realize you are buckled in and not going any where you relax. My husband cannot do any of the motion rides at Disney, but on the open doors helicopter ride he was fine, he loved it. We would definitely do again. Seems like you know yourself, but if you decide to do the ride you will enjoy. Have a great time in Hawaii!!!!!!

We had four on our flight. My husband and I had the rear seats. Not sure weight wise but two in front were lighter in weight then us. We could see everything and our pilot Steve pointed out things to us he called us by name to say look here or there. The trip was wonderful would do again.

I know they make stops at several Waikiki hotels and when you call, they will give you all the time slots available for the day you need. They are very accommodating and the friendliest people!
