About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- BoardingPass7723540 contributionsA Well Worth GPS Based Tour of a Breathtaking AreaThe tour used our GPS to give precise directions (where to turn). It might have been an atmospheric problem, but sometimes a segment would repeat, which was a bit annoying. But the tour said where to stop, where to park, and locations for great pictures. I just wish the tour had provided an exact address where to begin. The interspersed stories were interesting.Written 9 March 2025
- 14Donni0 contributionsGreat add on to your trip!So fun and easy to use! We just adapted the tours to where we were and let them fill in the blanks for us. Totally recommend!Written 1 March 2025
- AAARGH_OH0 contributionsGreat technology, informative, but with some rather insipid narration.First, the technology utilizing GPS and synching the narration to where you are is excellent. At each stop there was a thorough description of that location including history. I did learn a lot about Kauai. My big complaint comes with the narration. The guys voice was just too gleeful, almost like it was a kids show. He was trying to be too entertaining where this should be informative. That brings me to my other big complaint about the narration; insipid writing. Especially as the day wore on, it seems they thought it should get sillier, but instead it was cringe-worthily stupid. Based on this alone, we chose to skip the other three Kauai guides and visit the stops we were interested in individually and jump to the narrative of just those stops. Shaka needs to decide if their product should be a serious documentation of their subject for those who want to learn as much as possible or a cutesy less-serious, less impactful piece of entertainment. You can't be both. If it sounds like I'm being an intellectual snob, that's not it. I purchased this product to be informative and to a reasonable amount it is. But don't insult our intelligence with insipid, unneeded, unwanted "entertainment".Written 27 February 2025
- sparky13420230 contributionsfantastic way to see the islandsThese driving tours were a great way to see the islands. The bits of history kept things interesting between stops. The tours took us to places we never would have seen or experienced otherwise. There were a couple of technical issues with delayed directions and such, but that was probably the fault of the GPS, not the tour. I would recommend these audio tours to anyone that likes to see the country and experience the "untouresty" things.Written 23 February 2025
- wetzelrickw0 contributionsAWESOME and outstanding use of ITThe app queued up and everything came in right in a timely manner as we were traveling. The stories were great and the information on the various attractions was spot on. It’s a great way for his self guided tour. It’s one of the best I’ve ever seen and I’ve traveled the worldWritten 5 February 2025
- nolanc5790 contributionsShaka fans! The guide was so entertaining and helpful. Triggered by GPS, there were moments of fun stories, along with site suggestions, filled in with island music in between. It helps if your car automatically Bluetooth connects to the device this was purchased on.Written 14 January 2025
- PhxRaven_0817800 contributionsExplore at your own leisureThis was such an incredible tour package and highly recommended if you have a rental car and several days to explore. We were able to take our time and explore at our own pace. I am a fan and will gladly recommend this to friends and family. I love that there are other islands and even parks that have this as well. Kudos for a very easy and self guided tour!!!Written 9 January 2025
- sandim5810 contributionsBeautiful driveThe views were absolutely great! We had a really good time and really enjoyed the audio tour to hear about some history and legends.Written 25 November 2024

- Road012523642900 contributionsABSOLUTE MUST for families! We HIGHLY recommend the Shaka guide audio tours! This is the second time we’ve used them for the road to Hana. The first time was 7 years ago when my husband and I were here as a couple. This visit we brought our 3 kids and they got SO much out of the audio tour! We are likely going to do another while we are on this trip it was such a hit! They are homeschooled so it felt like we were checking off a lot in the education department for the day and it kept them quietly listening in the backseat and not teasing their siblings! Haha! Win win!Written 25 October 2024
- E_B_Hollingsworth0 contributionsWonderful audio tourWith this audio tour via car, we were able to see and learn way more than with a tour guide and bus! Fantastic!!! Maybe a little off in how long the trails are but truly great experience for us to move at our own pace.Written 29 September 2024
- brijit070 contributionsgreat tour!Ok- I was skeptical of this tour, but I figured that we could bag the tour at any point. What I liked is that there is flexibility on how much time we could spend at each stop and we could skip stops if we wished. This tour was awesome!! It was very flexible. The turn by turn steps were very easy to follow. The audio was easy to stop and start and was a good mix of history, stories and music. The app does a good job of explaining the stops and what to expect. There were no surprises. I liked that the route is saved on the app, so if we ever want to revisit parts of the tour again. We will be back to spend some time in Hanapepe- especially on Friday nights for the arts festival!Written 16 September 2024
- hilelane0 contributionsGreat guided driving tour!Kauai was beautiful -no wonder they call it the garden island. With only 1 day we hit ALOT of the suggested stops and loved the interesting history stories! When we skipped some stops the GPS caught up to where we were. Great directions and ideas for shopping and food too!Written 16 September 2024
- Sherry C0 contributionsWorth every dollar! Would do again!!So much fun!! These took us to beaches and sites that we would’ve never found in our own. Plus with other tours you have to go on their time, with this you can do it at your pace. Highly recommend.Written 15 September 2024
- 530kathic0 contributionsExcellent tour & guide! Highly recommend!Excellent tour & guide! Very easy to set up & worked perfectly. Lots of information & driving directions were very clear. Terrific views though the day we went much of Waimea had heavy cloud cover so we missed some views. Obvs the weather is a factor so consider that but otherwise it was amazing! I recommend it for an overview of the island.Written 12 September 2024

We got this audio car tour on a whim. We were just looking for something to do on a free day. I must say that I didn’t really expect too much but it really delivered. You can take as long doing this tour as you want, it just tracks your gps and picks up wherever you are on the map. It also gives some local history, one place it tells you to drive up and look at Kong mountain, which was cool but up that road was a man selling fresh mango bread so we decided to stop and it was amazing so glad we got some, also the gentleman selling the bread was so friendly and fun to talk to. I will say if you are going to do one of these tours just get it in advance and see where the stops will be and if you need to purchase entry or get an appointment. We weren’t able to get in to a couple places like the lighthouse but we were able to go to the lookout which had beautiful views. Other than that it was a lot of fun and took us places We would never have found on our own. I would definitely purchase again for other areas or islands.

The North shore driving tour was so much fun. We were able to see sites that we would never have known existed. The video tour guide explained so many wonderful things about the Island and the stories were fun and educational! I highly recommend doing the North shore video tour!!

The Shaka guide was the best purchase on our vacation. I highly recommend it to those who want to get out on their own to explore and see what the tour companies show you without having to ride around in a bus. It was easy to use and gave a lot of interesting information about the islands. The guy is a little hokey at times, but you get used to it. It was the easiest way to get around and not get lost. Reading a guidebook and searching for roads doesn't allow for an enjoyable ride. This does. I wish they'd have something like this in all areas where one wants to explore without a tour.

My husband is always looking for something new to do and this app was awesome for that! We love Kauai and thought we knew quite a bit about the island having adventured there just a couple of years ago but this took us to places we would have never know of otherwise. We learned some history along the way as well. It was well worth taking the time to have it installed before we left the mainland. We would definitely recommend!

Inconsistent. Trouble getting started on one tour. Had to re-download one of the tours, entire process to determine what was wrong and reset took 30 min. The Kapaa tour failed. Tried downloading again and it failed. Again, wasted time, this time an hour. In my humble opinion, better software development would fix the issues we experienced. Advise against spending your time with these.

Great app!
FYI, there are not multiple 'starting points', but only one starting point. We drove to an alternative starting point to begin the tour, and the first thing it did was...send us to the other starting point! lol Hey, we were in Hawaii, and it was beautiful, but I'd recommend that they make it clearer.
I still give the app 5 stars because even though it was the first Shaka tour we did, we quickly figured out how to maximize the app, and it was very enjoyable. You can go here or there and use it as you like.
Stories are fun, and interesting, and show you things that you'd otherwise miss. Well worth the cost! We ended up getting a second for a different part of the island.
Even if you are vaccinated (as we were), I’d recommend waiting on a trip to Hawaii until the Covid-related mandates are lifted, as they clearly diminished Hawaii’s “Aloha” spirit. Also, be aware that various amenities are missing and mask mandates are extensive, and extend even to the outdoors (truly, and in practice). You absolutely should not go if you are not vaccinated as most businesses will deny you entry.

We love Shaka Guide! This was our second tour on Kauai with this app. The tours are entertaining and informative. You see places that are off the beaten path. We were in & out of rain the day we did the North Shore tour, but the views were beautiful. I wouldn't pass on the lighthouse, as we felt it was a must see. Just make sure to book your pass BEFORE you go, same with the state park. We had such luck with the Kauai tours, we are going to be using the app for some tours of national parks this summer too.

I'm confused about this tour. It looks like an app that you download and take with you in your own vehicle, at your own pace. Why, then, must you "book" a tour; why would it start at 7:00 a.m.; and why would it be limited to 15 people? I also wonder at the 2-day trip duration, but I assume that's how long it would take if you follow the entire tour?

Where is the pier for the Pride of American in Kauai. How do we get from the ship to Kilohana Plantation for the tour? Is it 2 hours or 4 hours? Thank U

I am doing a project for school. on this island and I would like to know some questions so can you answer some of them. 1. How much does this cost per person? 2. How many hours are you open for? 3.
