    A Perfect Mayan Adventure
From start to finish, this tour had everything. Communication was great from the get-go and we had such a fun hour long drive to the cave with driver Damien and tour guides Eric and Hugh. Hugh made the drive feel like minutes. My husband and I were with Eric for the rest of the tour, who had us laughing and engaged the entire time. The cave itself was beyond anything we expected. Highly recommend this tour and this company - we felt well taken care of and could truly just enjoy the adventure of a lifetime.

    AMAZING!!!
We booked ATM Caves with MayaWalk and had the best time!! Our guide Hugh was very knowledgeable and made the experience unforgettable. Not only did he tell us all about the cave, but also about the history of the Mayan people. Hugh also answered every single question we asked. We truly had the most amazing time with MayaWalk tours and highly recommend them!!

    Amazing caving exploration experience!
The experience was simply amazing and super cool from walking through the jungle path with river crossings, swimming into the entrance of the cave and exploring through the cavern rivers, rock formations, and of course the mayan artifacts. Eric gave us a couple of exciting caving challenges too which I really enjoyed and I saw other groups didn't do. 100% recommend doing this experience!

    Worth every penny
The whole experience was INCREDIBLE! From the shuttle, to Juan Carlos' guiding skills, to the cave itself. All around amazing.

    Great Experience!
Our group of 6 (1 in their 60s, rest in 50s) had a wonderful experience! Junior shared the history of the Maya and what we’d experience in the cave. We liked the fact that we had life jackets - it made it easier for the swimming parts. (Other groups we saw didn’t have them) We had Eric as our guide- he was so informative and helpful when we were climbing. He took his time sharing details and we never felt rushed. None of our group are super fit and we were all able to get to the end of the cave. Some spots were tough to squeeze through and climbing the big boulder was a little tricky but it was worth it. Lunch and rum punch were our reward at the end. Such an amazing experience!

Excellent venues, but it's the guides that make the difference!
My daughter and I went on a combo tour of Xunantunich and Cave Tubing. Our guide was was excellent in every way I can think of: she was friendly, knowledgeable, she handled all the details, she is a safe driver, etc. When I initially signed up for the tours I was thinking they were a little expensive, but given the amount of travel involved, the fact that they provided lunch, and our terrific guide, it was totally worth it.

    Highly recommend
I did this trip with my husband and my parents who are in their 70s. Not going to lie, it was slow going and very difficult for the two of them. But our guide Eric was not only knowledgeable and humorous, he was kind, patient and very helpful with the rough terrain. The blogs and websites don't do justice to how this isn't just a simple cave tour. It's labeled moderate but in my caving and rock climbing experience, this would be advanced for most. It's spelunking. There is crawling on your hands and knees, sliding on your bottom down rocks, slippery crossings and rock climbs, crossing large gaps, squeezing your neck through narrow passages, and straight up bouldering. You have to use your arms to get over, down and up many sections. If you have shoulder, elbow or wrist issues, this could be a problem. If you have a knee replacement, like my mom, you'll struggle with the deep knee bends to get down and up. If you have numbness in your feet, like my father, you'll struggle with the uneven riverbed in general. There is zero even terrain after the jungle walk and even that can be muddy and slippery. I'm so proud of my parents for making it up the bouldering section (and back down). This is where you take off your shoes and only wear socks for the remaining couple hundred yards. They didn't make it much farther and stopped there to wait while we went ahead to the end. They did not get to see any of the Mayan skeletal remains, they are sore and scraped up from head to toe, they will need at least a day or 4 of recovery, but they still loved it and have no regrets. The lunch (or dinner in our case) and the rum punch were delicious. Eric made the trip incredible and we highly recommend MayaWalk.

What an amazing and memorable tour with Hugh
I will never forget this experience. I've been on a few cave tours in various parts of Central America, but this is at the to of my list. First the hike getting there was beautiful. Trekking through a beautiful rain forest, wading through beautiful streams of clear water, with a background of howler monkey's, while listening to our extremely knowledgeable tour guide Hugh give a very impressive history lesson on the Mayan civilization and what we were about the see (honestly, this guy could be a professor he's so knowledgeable). Then the cave itself!!! All I can say is you wont be disappointed. A few tips: wear very comfortable water shoes, bring socks, and if your are going to bring bug repellent i suggest the individual packged wipes.

    A Must Do experience
Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and engaging. His temperament and information made the experience one I will never forget. The cave speaks for itself and I was honored to be about to visit such a spectacular piece of history. The lunch was delicious. Overall, a wonderful experience and I highly recommend.

    Perfect 10!
We did an exclusive trip with Juan Carlos- myself and two sons. They are younger so I was worried and I should not have. Juan Carlos took great care with our family; ensured our safety, made us laugh, and taught us so much history! He was so patient with us and I cannot recommend him, Maya tours, or the ATM more!! Also- no snakes :-)

    Great Time
We had an amazing tour today with Jason. He is an amazing guide and finds perfect balance between being sharing facts and being chilled and letting us enjoy the beauty of the cave/nature. This tour was very special and definitely recommend! Eric & Carly :)

Go slow Tour to the Maya Underworld
We were warmly welcomed by Giselle and Michael who picked us up for this trip. The trip in to the cave is very easy, just a bit of canoe paddling and you are surrounded by complete darkness only your headlamps enlighten the fascinating world of stalactites and formations.

I have been to quite a few Mayan sites in Central America so can compare well. This tour was exceptionally good in terms of its explanation of when and how we think Mayans lived there. My guide Anselmo was very knowledgeable about all the aspects of this Mayan site as well as some comparisons to other archeological sites for context: its historical context, the architecture, their religion, a feel for their lives, the things we don’t know about them, the nature reserve around the ruins.
Yet he also knows how to convey all of this in a very lively story that keeps your attention and fascination. He blended everything together into a nice day.

Note: I made a special request in advance to skip the other stops and spend all the availabile time at Caracol ruins so my review covers only that part of the standard tour offered. MayaWalk was very accommodating in explaining their various tours and setting up this adapted one.

We booked this tour based on other reviews posted on Trip Advisor and we were thrilled! Michael, our Maya Walk driver picked us up at our hotel. We met Abi, our tour guide, a few minutes later at the Maya Walk offices. Michael was a skilled driver who safely navigated difficult terrain to get us safely to Rio Frio Cave, Caracol and The Rio Frio Pools. Abi was very passionate about Belizian Mayan history, the history of the site, and the nature reserve surrounding the site . He also had a passion for native birds. Abi planned the Caracol site visit perfectly so that we had the ruins primarily to our group of six. We enjoyed a delicious local made Mayan chicken lunch after touring Caracol. Micheal and Abi setup the warm lunch at the conclusion of our site tour and even had a formal table cloth. We highly recommend this tour! Michael and Abi were a great team and made the trip even more special!

I was traveling by myself, and did the Caracol Mayan ruins tour with Maya Walk from San Ignacio. Ended up in a group tour (6 total) and had a fantastic day. Abi was our guide, and was very knowledgeable, helpful, polite, friendly. He covered it all VERY well. The driver, Jaheem, did an excellent job on, admittedly, some rough stretches of road.
The Caracol ruins were fantastic by themselves, and then the historical, cultural and natural (plants, animals, birds, soil) information shared by Abi made it even better. I really felt that I learned a lot today.
After the main tour, Jaheem and Abi served us a lovely lunch (veggie options available), then on our way back to San Ignacio, we stopped at Rio On pools, for a refreshing dip, and another cascade/waterfall, also available for swimming.
The van was also excellent, as was the companionship.
Abi & Jaheem were also so professional and courteous that they stopped briefly, to help another vehicle change the tire on THEIR vehicle, on the drive back. Nice people!

Originally, we were going to rent a jeep and drive ourselves to Caracol. I don't prefer being on someone else's schedule, and I read up on a site before visiting.

The road is a rough one, and the first time you drive a road like that you have to allot time to deal with the unforseen. Our driver Tate was an expert with the van, he drives it several times a week and can do it in his sleep. Our group got safely to all the stops with a minimum of harsh bumps or time stuck behind pokey drivers.

Jason who led us is a consumate professional. If you get him, you are golden. I learned enough in my reading to know he wasn't winging it. His style was relaxed, confident, and very personable.

We were very happy with our choice of tour operator and location.

We loved our time at all 3 destinations. Our driver Lincoln and our guide Giselle (not sure the spelling) were accommodating, professional and prompt. The cave was much more enjoyable and wonderful than we had even anticipated. We thought it was simply a way to break up the drive but we were so impressed with the knowledge of our tour guide and all we were able to see.

The Caracol ruins were absolutely stunning. We spent enough time there to see everything we wanted to see and our tour guide Giselle was knowledgeable, relatable, and explained everything in a way we understood. The Belizean lunch was so delicious as was the rum punch!

Rio On Pools was another great stop. It had rained for several days in a row before we arrived so the pools were overflowing and the current in a few spots was strong but we swam and had a great time getting refreshed.

Our van broke down just a few miles from the office on our return but the owner brought another van in just a few minutes and we were on our way.

I would HIGHLY recommend this tour and MayaWalk Tours. Fantastic experience for all 6 of us.

My family of 4 took this tour with our guide and driver, Anselmo Galicia. He was one of the best guides and drivers we have ever had. He had a seemingly inexhaustible knowledge of our tour sites and he was able to communicate his enthusiasm and knowledge with ease. He made this tour a remarkable day for all of us. You will not be disappointed with him as your tour guide and driver.

Gisele was such an amazing Tour Guide. She related to the group we were with and made the long bumpy ride very enjoyable and fun. We saw a lot of wildlife on the drive, and Caracol was one of the highlights of our entire trip. This is not one to miss if you are visiting Belize! The other tour guides were so helpful and knowledgeable.

Our second excursion of our trip with MayaWalk was the Caracol Ruins. Our guide was Damian and we were the only ones scheduled for the tour that day making for an intimate and very private experience. Damian is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the Mayan history, plants and animals of the area. He was very courteous and picked up quickly on what we were interested in and focused attention to those details. We shared personal stories and really connected on our tour. It was an amazing day and the tour is not only about the ruins, but also a stop at a cave and natural river fed pools. The lunch was amazing, fresh and homemade. We couldn’t have asked for a better tour or guide. Thank you so much!

Another excellent tour from MayaWalk Tours. The ruins were beautiful and our guide knew anything there is to know about the history of the Maya. He was incredibly friendly and we had a great time discussing Belizean history and other things on the long drive. If anyone is worried about the amount of walking on this tour, it isn't a far distance, but there is some climbing of steep steps and the weather was very hot when we went. Not only did we see the ruins but the wildlife in this protected area was beautiful. Since it was just the end of the dryer season there, our guide gave us the option to skip the Rio Frio Cave and instead go to another swimming area that had a waterfall and cliff jumping. It was a great experience and you could tell the tour company cares about the experience of their guests.
