Verde Canyon Railroad Adventure

Overview
Enjoy a 4-hour sightseeing journey by train aboard the Verde Canyon Railroad, which glides through the beautiful wilderness of the American Southwest near Sedona. Nibble light refreshments while traveling on the Verde Canyon Railroad through Arizona’s desert. Ride in a vintage train car or open-air viewing car to get a great perspective on the region’s natural and cultural treasures. See ancient cliff dwellings built by the Native American Sinagua people, historic mining sites and more as your train cruises along a route that follows the Verde River.
What to Expect
Make your way to the Verde Canyon Railroad Train Depot in Clarkdale, Arizona, not far from Sedona, to begin your Verde Canyon Railroad adventure.
This rail adventure offers a wilderness train ride through the remote Verde Canyon which is known for its picturesque setting and abundant wildlife. Though it’s possible to hike in the canyon, by far the easiest way to experience it is by riding this scenic wilderness train.
The train is made up of exquisitely-renovated passenger coaches and open-air viewing cars pulled by vintage locomotives and travels a route along the Verde River between Clarkdale and Perkinsville. After embarking from the Clarkdale depot, sit back for a 4-hour, 40-mile round trip that includes views of historic mining sites, geological wonders, Sinagua Indian cliff dwellings and wildlife from bald eagles to antelope.
You will remain spellbound as your vintage carriages cross an expansive railway bridge embedded in basalt cliffs, glide through a covered bridge opening the gateway to Perkinsville, or experience daylight retreating in the 680-foot manmade tunnel, all odes to that same bygone era. Two FP7 locomotives, only two of 10 remaining in North America, are the muscle that powers the newly-renovated passenger cars.
Indoor cars are climate-controlled with restrooms and the train meets ADA requirements. Your first class cabins feature panoramic windows in a living room-style atmosphere of comfortable love seats or bistro-style chair-and-table seating near panoramic windows. Enjoy a champagne toast upon boarding, a variety of complimentary appetizers reflecting the southwest region and full-service cash bars featuring premium liquors and beverage service at your seat. With comfortable seating indoors and access to high-backed benches on the adjoining open-air cars, it is like getting two seats for the price of one.

Pleasant train ride--think autumn would be best time to ride for fall leaves

I had a friend visiting from out of state, so we drove up to spend time in the vicinity. Our first stop was the train ride. We had paid for 2 first-class tickets, which allowed a light lunch--sandwiches, fruit, vegetables, brownie and free water bottles....More

Our group of 24 senior citizens had a blast on the railroad last Thursday. Our reception at the railroad station was warm and efficient - our lunch vouchers enabled everyone to get their favorite sandwich and drink from the cafeteria. Special thanks to Ellen for...More

First class seating misleading -not worth it

I paid for a first class seating to sit on a sofa. If I had known that parties of two are forced to sit at a tiny table and have to give sofas to parties of 3 or more, I would have saved my money....More

When making a first class reservation there is never a guarantee of couch seating. if you review the first class seating photos on our website and in our brochure you will see that the high back chairs, which are actually most coveted for their river...More

An excellent way to spend the afternoon. I rode the train with my parents who were visiting. We chose the first class car and it was definitely worth it. Really large comfortable seats and great views. Bottle of wine was only $16 and it had...More

Hi, The bridges aren't long and your pretty much looking out at the scenery not looking down. You shouldn't have a problem. There are open cars if you want to be out side or you can go inside and still have views out of... More
